Critics say the treaty which creates " the right of the child to freedom of thought, conscience and religion" and outlaws the "arbitrary or unlawful interference with his or her privacy," intrudes on the family and strips parents of the power to raise their children without government interference.

Unnecessary
Children or anyone else, do not need BASIC RIGHTS to be given them by any governmental body. They already are BORN with them. What all governments need to do is stop interfering with these inalienable rights.
Anything given by an authority can be taken away.

I agree. We do not get our rights from government. The Declaration of Independence states clearly where the founders believed we receive our rights from and that also explains the purpose of government, not to give rights but to protect them.
