A Day at the Gun Show
Below is my report posted at C4L of the Gun Show table our Ohio District 16 hosted Saturday. Again a BIG THANK YOU to some of the DailyPaul family who donated through our ChipIn to help make this possible. You all are the greatest! Link to the blog post is below.

A Day at the Gun Show
Saturday's Gun Show in Dalton was a huge success for District 16. I really enjoyed working with Simon and Todd. These guys are naturals in talking about the issues we presented. They stayed extra time and I was there all day so we had good coverage. Sure wish we could have had photo as the table looked great and was well loaded, no pun intended ;) By the end of the day we had given away most of the best items with too little left to do Sunday.
We started out with 160 DVD's and gave away about 130 between End the Fed and America, Freedom to Fascism. The Pocket Constitutions from NCCS were by far a favorite and 85 of those found homes in addition to about 100 C4L brochures. We gained 44 signatures on the Ohio Sovereignty petition and many more took the flier which included website to sign it online.
The End the Fed petition was light with just 15 signatures. Some were hesitant and commented that they were 'afraid' to sign it which caught me off guard a bit. My reply was "yes, I understand. Isn't it sad we have to be afraid to speak out in America," then encouraged them to take the DVD's and fliers. This magnifies the fact that tyranny indeed thrives in our nation.
I was overwhelmed and humbled as several people went out of their way to thank us for what we were doing. At times there was actually a crowd around the table listening, signing petitions and gathering fliers for their friends and family. The best part was talking to the people. I lost count on the number of times a light appeared to come on and was amazed how many RP supporters we met and others who already knew about some of the issues. The freedom message is spreading! Perhaps the atmosphere of a gun show gave us a leg up in that most there are Constitution lovers. This was an excellent way to get our feet wet and I hope more of you will share ideas for educational events in your area that we can work on together.
Our donation jar took in $106 for the day! This along with the chip in will cover our cost for materials with about $80 left over. There is a certain District 14 Coordinator alias 'Tumbleweed Steve', who provided the DVD's and more for us at his own expense using that 'Dangerous DVD' maker of his. I am sending the $80 extra back to him to help keep the production going as time will not wait for support of this effort.
I'm certain many of you have ideas on fund raising and outreach in your own precincts and will be scheduling a conference call this week. Your patience is appreciated as I'm new at much of this. Comments and ideas here are very much appreciated.

It's the name
that scares them. Fed = Federal Government.
They just don't understand that it's a private institution and not Federal.
You gotta admit, those guys couldn't have come up with a more official sounding name.

I was looking up gun shows the other day and thinking what a great opportunity to promote C4L. Even if it was just two people with a C4L sign and information to pass out as people walk by. Maybe a bookmark with something like "We're fighting for your freedom, won't you join us!"

About people who were afraid to sign... maybe it would be good to have a small brochure of Thomas Jefferson quotes or just liberty related quotes in general. Make sure the list of quotes includes the one where Jefferson said: "When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."

Please, consider this video too (next time)
It is the single best video that clarified to me the current difference (actually, lack of difference) between the "conservative" party and the "liberal" party;
by explaining how much more important the simple philosophy of "big government vs. small government" is compared to conservative/liberal, it was the single biggest paradigm shift for me during Ron Paul's campaign.
Its only 30 minutes, but it does the best job I've ever seen of bringing the truth of the present to light: there are not two parties. For me this was earthshaking and fundamental, and I think its a crucial video (perhaps the FIRST crucial video) for people to see.
Its called "Overview of America" by the John Birch society; their public service dvds cost $10.00 per 11 dvds, and just get cheaper after that.

I attended a gun show a little over a week ago that was just packed. I have never before seen so many attendees. The dominating presence was the NRA. I wore my Rally for the Republic tee shirt and it was the only RP information there.
The pro hawk influence is heavy in our area. At our GOP conventions, RP people were treated as unAmerican. Your gunshow experience was very positive. Did you run into any of the pro war people who like to get in one's face? They can be very hostile. I would like some input as to how others deal with these people.

No, didn't hear any
No, didn't hear any encounters with pro war topic. We mostly concentrated on explaining the Ohio Sovereignty petition and End the Fed and of course C4L. Also had fliers for Separation of School and State, NAIS, Committees of Safety, GOA, Second Amend. Foundation, RealID, and more.
The place was packed! Two hrs. after the door opened at 9am, the line outside waiting to get in went around the corner to the end of the building and more were steadily lining up. My experience at gun shows is limited but I heard regulars talking about how nice this one was compared to some more established in the state. This event center just opened about a year ago so it's still growing.

I think that this video by the Mises Institute would be a GREAT dvd to hand out as well. It's not as *conspiratorial* as Freedom to Fascism and can cater to a wider audience, which is our ultimate goal.

Yes, I agree! This video is the one that nailed my attention over a year ago. The End the Fed dvd we handed out includes this one as well as 4-5 other good ones. Sorry I don't recall those titles and gave away my last copy. Another member has it and I can always get more from Tumbleweed. I think it's new for the upcoming protests on April 25.

That is a lot of DVD's for folks to be watching, hopefully it was people that haven't seen them before and it opens some more eyes.

I had little time to look around but hubby was on the hunt. Mostly looking for ammo which he didn't buy do to price increases. He did find some gizmoes to help with loading .223 clips. You can see my experience is minimal, but I'm learning! ha The Medina show is next week end and we hope to find a certain dealer where we got good deal on 500 rounds before. Also, we've joined a local range and I'm excited to try out some new toys ;)
