Why did a bank teller ask for my occupation?
Greetings to all,
This afternoon I had an interesting situation and subsequent conversation with a bank teller at a local Washington Mutual. While withdrawing a money order to pay my rent, the teller asked for my occupation. I inquired as to why my occupation was pertinent and she responded that it was necessary under federal law. This is the first time any teller asked for my occupation, after many similar withdrawals.
I was somewhat stunned by the question and responded as vaguely as possible. I asked her what necessitated that type of question and her response was that I could be a terrorist, especially in my particular career field.
I had quite a chuckle.
Does anyone know the origin of this law. Is it a new TARP rule?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

The answer can be found in
"The Tyranny of Good Intentions" by Paul Craig Roberts. The teller is a "snitch for profits", plain and simple. The teller gets a cut of what the feds or state extracts from you. Easy read, scary book. You will see that we are way past the point-of-no-return.
I've been out of banking for a while
I've been out of banking for a while, but I know the Anti-Money Laundering Laws were tightened up under the PATRIOT Act. It used to be known as "Know your customer." If you were making a repetitive transaction, it may have aroused the suspicions of the teller, who is forced to report any suspicious activity to the Feds. Downright Orwellian, if you ask me.

I'd have responded...

Lol, that would have been great.
I did ask her if she seriously feared a terrorist attack and whether she thought that the government knowing my occupation was going to do a damn thing about stopping a dangerously pissed-off individual or group.
She got my point of how out of hand this is getting...

Think for yourself. Question authority.

“We have allowed our nation to be over taxed and over regulated and overrun by bureaucrats, the founders would be ashamed of us for what we're putting up with.” Ron Paul
I need that in writing.
That's what I would have said with a polite smile.
And I would have zeroed out my account and tell them to shove it.
My response would have been
Show me the law!
LOL, there are so many things...
I wish I would have asked this girl. Oh well, next time.
