Deputies: Kitten Found Stuffed Inside Marijuana Bong

The kitten -- 6-month-old Shadow -- is being treated at a Lincoln animal shelter.

Deputies said they witnessed the animal being trapped inside the homemade bong as it was being smoked.

“I have never seen anything like this before,” Lancaster County Chief Deputy Bill Jarrett said.

The bong is made of Plexiglas and is about the size of shoebox.

“[It was] taped shut so the cat was exposed to large amounts of marijuana smoke,” Jarrett said.

Pure cruelty

Pro or anti marijuana doesn't matter here, the cat was deprived of oxygen. He might as well have held a pillow over the cat's face.

If that cat was being deprived of oxygen (as would be expected from the inside of a bong), I would indeed count that as cruelty...

I do have an issue with animal cruelty. I have many pets.......hell, when we were kids we blew smoke at the dog, but this is different.

and have no bill of rights. I don`t concur with animal cruelty if fact I deplore it ,however I find that it is none of my business if It doesn`t effect my property .

Jail house justice is kicking the guy's ass while he's in jail. Obvioulsly he means the dipsh!t who locked his cat in a box and smoked weed through it.

Just because they aren't mentioned in the Constitution --- which I find to be silly and preposterous anyway -- does not mean that animals have no right to life or to be treated respectfully!! Come ON!! Has anyone ever really OWNED a cat anyway???

And giving my cats catnip is great fun for us and for them....

Once again, use some perspective... The only reason anyone thinks this is cruel is because it involves the "demon" weed. You know, the one that cures cancer (Harvard study and more), kills pain, is non-addictive, proven to have benefit, etc etc....

(I hope I can resist posting again on this silly topic... :) )

i couldn't help but laugh after seeing this article. The guys name is shoemaker and he gets caught with his cat inside his smoke filled shoebox bong while being apprehended for a previous marijuana possession charge LOL!!! Am I the only one seeing the irony here?

micheal vick and friends did and I bet they do more time. My brother grew pot for pesonal use and was in jail with Vick and his cousin. They were tried a day apart. They are both out. My brother won't be out til 2011 and the prosecuter lied about the number of plants he had

How about the government, I hear their employees do all kinds of testing on rats and apes, injecting them with poisons and diseases, and in fact cruelly killing them.

Could a hunter ever be accused of cruelly killing his prey?

So if harming animals results in felony convictions, who's to decide who gets to go to jail for 5 years and who doesn't?

A government judge?

Don't humans slaughter millions of animals daily?

I wonder if it is cruel to give a cat too much catnip as well. The whole "trapped in a bong" thing is a little messed up but not any more dangerous than giving a cat catnip for fun.

I like how they say if it "dies, or suffers other long term health effects"... They need to act like reporters and do enough research to understand how ridiculous that statement is.

i don't have a problem with the bunny or the squirrel smoking, it appeared consensual to me. the squirrel was hitting that pipe like a champ. i haven't seen that level of Technique since Micheal Phelps joined the sport.
