Thanks for the valuable information you shared in this thread. While it might not directly assist the OP in finding his AR, I’m confident that I am not the only person that found your posts educational.

That's what happens

when you get some gun people together!

It's all good. And we're on the same side.

not sure. try gun shows.

not sure. try gun shows. maybe you could get a cheap lower and then build the rest. iirc, you only need nazional instant check for the actual receiver with the serial.

you should be able to get a complete functional ar-15 for around $600 (this is talking 2000 prices)

don't forget to learn how to bump fire it!

A revolver runs over $600 today at the Gun Show.

Everything has almost doubled in price since the November elections.

I saw a beat up old SKS with a price tag of $300 on it.

you have as much right to armed self defense as you can afford

figures... govt doesn't care about your right to self defense unless you have enough money to afford and need an armed bodyguard... then they roll out the red carpet!

funny that, if you can actually afford a bodyguard, they can get licensed in all 50 states, DC, NYC, and even to carry on private aircraft (meaning your own jet). same with private corporate security guards, like you see around banks and nuclear power plants.

bill gates travels with a larger security detail than does barack obama. nobody, i mean NOBODY questions their authorization to be armed.

I happened upon one...

An old lady from my Church recently lost her son and asked me and my father to come take a look at all of his guns and pick out what we wanted if we helped her sell the rest.

I immediately went for the Stag-15, which at the time was loaded with a full clip and modified for full auto - Whoops! So I I had to to some tweaking to make it legal but it shoots like a charm. Ammo is expensive as all hell though.

Sorry I can't really help you too much but tell you I sympathize with your search - I had been looking for one for a long time with no luck and then happened upon it! So I guess my advice is keep looking and good things come to those who wait!

My thoughts

1. If you are patient, you can find them reasonably priced on forums. People need money right now.
2. You will likely overpay on Gunbroker.com
3. Gun shows have some but you have to be careful not to overpay

I still think the better way is to build one yourself.

If you wait a little while...

you'll find plenty of them laying around.

Man..This guy can't get any

Man..This guy can't get any answers...People get to busy arguing over which is better..Why not answer the guys question..
If you have a gun shop anywhere near you, you can go to gunsamerica.com and should be able to get one shipped...or check out bushmaster , it's the same thing as a colt but less expensive...I think you could check dpms as well...I hope that helps...now..with that said..what exactly are you wanting this for..because some weapons are better for long range( which I see alot of the argument about here) and others are better for close quarters, then you have some that are decent for both but not perfect for longer ranges...For close quarters as far as rifles go, I currently have a beretta cx 4 storm 9 mm...they come in other calibers but I chose 9mm because it can share ammo with my pistol.....For long range I would say the socom 2 is a good weapon unless you have money to burn I would go with the barrett .50 cal..for reliability you can't beat an ak..especially for the price...and for a pistol I stringly recommend the springfield xd..I have one and haven't fired a better handgun and I had my friend get one for him and his wife and they feel te same way..it also comes in different calibers...or just to be cool, the taurus judge is a nifty piece...

A lot more battles are lost from lack of ammunition than from

scarcity of rifles.

I like the thinking in Kurt Saxon's article about rapid fire weapons:

http://www.kurtsaxon.com/defense001.htm

Unless you are planning on fighting an army on a traditional battlefield (where revolutionaries normally lose), I think there are better choices than an AR15 for most potential civil disorder or home protection possibilities. And if we do fall into civil war, the traditional battles won't come until toward the end; at first there will just be sabotage, roadside bombings, sniping, and very limited assaults. By the time the need for an AR15 comes around, they should be coming from raids and off of dead government soldiers, unless some foreign government supplies the revolutionaries.

I bought one on Gun Broker

I bought one on Gun Broker the day after the communists won the election. I would go there because gun stores across the country put their inventory up for stock. I had the gun in about a week. I also got the one I wanted which was a RRA Coyote rifle... You create a account ... Then You bid on the weapon and if You win the seller will contact You. He will ship it to a FFL licensed dealer meaning any gun store. You will have to call the gun store first to see if they will do a FFL transfer for you though. You will give the FFL imformation and the shipping info to the dealer and walla You will get Your gun in a week. I paid a little more but its better to get the gun You want instead of customizing it later because it will cost You more than the 100 dollar FFL transfer fee...

Here You go here is a good one .... I wished I bought one because the 5.45X39 is a cheap round but it still gets the job done. No matter what you get You will more than likely get a 5.45X39 or a .22LR upper just so You can afford to shoot it .... Just make sure the guy has a good rating before You buy so You won't be scammed.... Also please look at the rating comments.....

$100.00 for an FFL transfer fee?!?!? Holy cow. I griped

because they charged me $20.00.

I have a friend named Quido or Hussein or something like that.
He can hook you up with an Ar-15 or some money if you need it.
His beeper stopped working after he quit doing coke.
Give him a try.

Get something else

The problem with AR rifles is they aren't as reliable as the AKs and require a lot more cleaning not to mention more expensive. I would recommend either an M1 or a Saiga 308. Both are reliable as hell, will fire even if you miss a cleaning and are much cheaper. The AR is a nice rifle but I wouldn't recommend to someone who isn't an enthusiast. If you had to bug out at a moments notice and pack light I would grab a Saiga.
M7

M7

True

I got a saiga 7.62x39mm. Doesn't have the distance of the .308, but has a hell of a punch. Lots of fun to shoot and internally, it's very very hard to tell the difference between it and an actual AK. I love it.

i bought a dpms .308

at the gun show.......

Thats where you should go....Most of the gun shops in Ohio have plenty of AR's and AK's......but be prepared to pay at the minimum 1300.

GunsAmerica.com usually has a lot of product but they go quick...

Good luck!!!!!!

I got my saiga before

and of this craziness went on. I paid $450 and they threw in a 30 rd clip. I souped it up quite a bit since then and from the look of the prices I could probably sell it for much more and buy another one on the site listed above.

You ain't kiddin about

You ain't kiddin about Wal-Mart. Two weeks ago I bought my local Wally Worlds last 250 rd box of 45 acp wwb. They have yet to replenish. Yesterday, They didnt' even have bulk 22lr like Thunderbolts or American Eagle. Ammo is drying up and the price has skyrocketed. I have a 5 year old box of WWB in 38 super from Cabela's that is marked 11.99. Saw the same box at Cabelas last night for either 24.99. Shoulda bought a case of ammo once a week instead of sinking it into a 401K program for the last five years. But then, I only discovered Ron Paul two years ago.

As for a cheap AR15, this weeks Sarco ad in the Shotgun News lists a complete rifle kit, less lower receiver for 450 +- a few depending on whether you want a 20 inch or a 16 inch barrel. You can get a Lower and have it transferred off Gunbroker, Auction Arms, etc... Rock River, Superior, Sun Devil, etc... probably 30 different mfgs. All good some better.

Move to Montana....

Or any other 2nd Amendment friendly state....and then buy a real rifle - I'd stay away from any rifle in 5.56...that round is great for varmint hunting and thats about it.......I was a very happy 240b gunner (in 7.62).....finishing the job for the pea shooters......

ar 15

there is a web site www.ar15.com. Nice folks, I'm sure they'd be helpful.

You can order parts to build

You can order parts to build or full weapon at Fulton Armory.

http://www.fulton-armory.com/

They have AR-15's in .223/5.56mm, 6.5mm, and .308/7.62mm

DPMS is way backlogged, you'll have to check on lead time with any of them. Gun shows are a good bet though.

AR-15 rifles make no sense to me.

Most people go after an AR-15 because they want some "firepower," yet the AR-15 is built around a small caliber round and a crummy gas operated system.

I have experience with a variety of .223 rifles, especially the M16, and it is one of the last rifles I would ever want to buy.

If you want some firepower and are going to get a rifle, get a .308. If you want a reliable semi-auto, go with the foreign .308 rifles, such as the FN FAL and H&K. The PTR-91 is an American made version of the H&K 91, made on actual H&K tooling, and is my first recommendation.

You could also go with an American M1A, although they are far less durable and reliable than the FN/H&K/PTR.

That's one of the deceitful reasons for the Assault Weapons Ban - it unfairly targets superior foreign rifles in order to boost sells of the inferior American counterparts such as the M1A and AR-15.
