They should look into their company's 401k plan and invest in
The most conservative money market funds. Unfortunately some employers 401ks do not offer a real conservative money market fund, and your friends can thank them for their lack of foresight if that is the case.
Fortunately my employer has a Treasury money market fund so I stopped the bleeding one year ago and went all in (that is, all out of the market). However, they have since closed the fund to new investors and even closed the fund to new contributions because everyone was flocking to it (flight to safety).
They need to stop panicking and actually look at what funds their 401ks offer and switch to the most conservative funds, that is, restructure. This is not rocket science, it is simply a moral imperative to protect what is rightfully yours.

I can roll over
I am doing a self directed IRA thru Sterling Trust purchasing gold and silver and letting it ride !!
"Obamney care," Nuff said.
It depends.
If they are still working at the company they have the 401K with, the only option is to cash out with penalties approx 30%. Then they can buy PM's, food, etc.
Since I left the company I had mine with years ago, I was able to roll it over from Fidelity to Europacwith no penalties/fees.
My ideas.
I'm no financial "expert" and don't want to be. But, after buying AU or AG I'd by food and real estate. The "real estate" is the important purchase.
i don't know about that...
if you purchase land by conventional methods it's not "yours" anyway. your land is owned by the state.
it can be taken from you. the so called "owning" land is not security to me.
