What is your state's Freedom Index?
After reading this post by legalizeliberty - http://www.dailypaul.com/node/85261
I came across this important article and decided it needed it's own thread.
“Freedom In The 50 States: An Index of Personal and Economic Freedom” measures a number of variables beyond the usual economic measures, including, “measures of social and personal freedoms such as peaceable citizens’ rights to educate their own children, own and carry firearms, and be free from unreasonable search and seizure.”

Interesting that of the bottom 25,21 are not right to work states.

Not surprisingly my state ranked in the bottom quarter as expected - The prison state of ohio(#38).This just reinforces my desire to move elsewhere.
So where do you rank and how much do you agree with this list?

I have to
disagree with Colorados ranking. I lived there most of my life and it has gone downhill, that is why we moved to AZ. Hell Denver welcomes illegal immigrants with open arms.

Here in the Gulag of Illinois,
we can expect nothing but corruption, socialism, and government tyrrany.
We still have a no handgun policy in Chicago, not even ownership. Did this index consider the number of state politicians indicted or in prison? Our last governor, Rod Blagojevich, is on his way to the pen for corruption. George Ryan, the one before that, is in jail now and will probably die there.
And guess who is the lawyer for Ryan?
The Governor before him, Jim Thompson represents him.
Our mayor has linked all of our city security cameras to the DHS, and plans to expand the surveillance network before the Olympics may come.
Parking meters and Skyway (Tollway) tolls are now collected by third party corporations who lease the right from the city. The meters are now enforced 24 hours!
I would ask those who created the index to reconsider the rating of Illinois at 42, its much worse than that.
Doesn't the rise of Obama and cronies like Rahm Emanuel and Rod Blagojevich make them as nervous as I am?

I thought
Oklahoma would be higher and Texas would be lower. Texas was a leader in the Trilateral Corridor and we have some great NWO leaders around here. And we let them spray the heck out of our skies. I guess I need to count my blessings and overlook the gray skies.
You should
code the ones which have voted in sovereignty or are working on it.
I don't know of any state in
I don't know of any state in this country that governs by the constitution.Their are state laws that abridge rights and I know of no state that has protected it's citizens from the federal government.
With that said, although these "declarations" these states are promoting are good on face value,I expect a lot more then words.Yes this is a step in the right direction, but the states need reminded by the people that they themselves are breaking the constitution.

Gee, we give sanctuary to illegal aliens, and Ted Kennedy.
Must have been the recent decriminalization which kept us out of 50th.
Ohio 38?
That's a flat out joke. They should have a spot on this list with Ohio at like #278 or something reserved for when all of Canada's and Mexico's states and provinces merge with us and we become one big happy family.
Surprise surprise surprise.
I didn’t for a moment think the Nazi state of Iowa would even be on that list. On the other hand gun ownership & use is almost completely out of the government’s hands up here, as far as I know. We have one of the best state constitutions around.
I notice my home state of California is considered about the worst. But I think that has to do with the population concentrations. The metropolitan population my birthplace, for example, was over the 20 million mark in the ’60s.

Yeah I'm surprised about Iowa too
especially that it ranks above Montana. But Ron Paul did do quite well during the primaries...
A Native American lady moved here from Montana…
I think she did that so she could homeschool her children without fear of provocation.
I was raised in South Dakota (Black Hills region). For years I’ve wanted to move to Sioux Falls. These days South Dakota keeps looking better and better.
I just reread my last comment. I guess I need to proofread more carefully!

Illinois has a population center
All of the lowest ranking places have the big population centers. Like the guy said about MO, take out St. Louis and KC and MO is free as a bird.
Likewise take away the flaming cesspool of Chicago, and Illinois might be an honorable place. But, IT"S NOT.
No surprise here:
I knew the state I am in would be near, if not at the bottom. 46. I have been trying to find a way out of here for about a year. I am going to have to take a big hit on the real estate to do it. But I want to retire and croak in the mountains of
TN. It's incredibly beautiful there. At least it was last time I passed through.

From here in #6, Missouri.
If we are number 6, I can't imagine how bad it is in states further down the list. Of course even here, there is a big difference between living in a rural area and living in the political cesspools of St. Louis or Kansas City. If we could redraw the state map and give St. Louis to Illinois, and Kansas City to Kansas, then we would be #1 by a massive margin.

The socialist state of New York is # 50. Big surprise!
No Suprise in NY
I can hear them all trampling over each other to get out of here!
Funny how so many of those who all voted for big government, big spending, etc., all want to leave where they are because of the stifling taxes, etc. and then they go vote for the same crap in their new locale!
They're too stupid to realize that they themselves are part of the problem to begin with! I'm not saying all.....but many!
I saw that with North Carolina which used to be a very conservative state - BUT - so many New Yawkers moved down there bringing their liberalism and nimwit voting habits with them that the state has changed!
