Haven't listened to them since high school and now I get it. Anyone else?

In my early days I listened

In my early days I listened to the British band "New Model Army."The band became popular in Germany with this song and I heard that they canceled their last America-Tour because of problems with their visas.

It was so true for me but I didn't understand the reason why.

Hungry Freaks, Daddy

Go truly vintage. Try Zappa:

Mister America
Walk on by
Your schools that do not teach
Mister America
Walk on by
The minds that won't be reached
Mister America
Try to hide
The emptiness that's you inside
When once you find that the way you lied
And all the corny tricks you tried
Will not forestall the rising tide of
Hungry freaks, Daddy . . .

They won't go
For no more
Great mid-western hardware store
Philosophy that turns away
From those who aren't afraid to say
What's on their minds
(The left-behinds of the Great Society)

Hungry freaks, Daddy . . .

Mister America
Walk on by
Your supermarket dream
Mister America
Walk on by
The liquor store supreme
Mister America
Try to hide
The product of your savage pride
The useful minds that it denied
The day you shrugged and stepped aside
You saw their clothes and then you cried:
THOSE HUNGRY FREAKS, DADDY!

For scathing anger, especially at government, no one, and I mean NO ONE, ever out-did Zappa.

"Something's gotta be done.... before America scarfs up the world and $%!ts on it!" - Zappa, 1968.

Thanks for the vintage Zappa!

That's an oldie, from the MOI's first album I believe. Here's a quote from that noted political philosopher:

"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see a brick wall at the back of the theater." -- Frank Zappa

RIP, Mr. Zappa.

Guns of Brixton

by the Clash.

I didn't get it back in high school in the early 80's, but it seems they were talking about martial law:

Guns of Brixton

When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting in death row

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, Guns of Brixton

Yeah, I never really "got

Yeah, I never really "got it" when I listened to them in high school either. FYI, someone mentioned The Coup also. I was looking at the Nine Inch Nails concert with Jane's Addiction and noticed that another act had been added called Streetsweeper, which is apparently a side project of Tom Morello of RATM and Boots Riley of The Coup.

From nin.com

Our tour this summer with Jane's Addiction just got that much cooler. I'm happy to announce the addition of Street Sweeper - the new project featuring Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine / The Nightwatchman) and Boots Riley (The Coup). Have an exclusive first listen RIGHT HERE.

Circle Jerks - When the shit hits the fan

In a sluggish Economy
Inflation, Recession
Hits the land of the free
Standing in unemployment lines
blame the government
for hard times

we just get by
however we can
we all gotta duck when the shit hits the fan

10 kids in a cadillac
stand in line for welfare checks
let's all leach off the state
gee! the money is really great!

soup lines
free loaves of bread
5lb blocks of cheese
bags of groceries
social security
has run out on you and me
we do whatever we can
gotta duck when the shit hits the fan

Have You Seen This?

The hip hop group "The Coup" came out with an album in July 2001 that depicted the Twin Towers expliding in the same areas that they were hit by those planes. Check it out:

Ummm...I think they're

Ummm...I think they're socialists/communists...I think they're against the U.S. government or our state-capitalistic system that they probably just call "capitalism", but I think they're philosophy is far different than the philosophy of liberty.

Your virtual "free" market - http://paulslist.us

I was just thinking about this recently.

Megadeath is another one, I grew up listening to that music and never pondered the signifigance. Like the NWO song...I just thought it sounded great. They were way ahead of thier time.

--oops I mean Ministry, OregonBean all ready posted correctly.

Slayer

I'll only add links as Slayer's lyrics are pretty raw, but there's no denying their viewpoints, or that they're not commies:

http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/slayer/diabolusinmusica.html#4

http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/slayer/christillusion.html#6

I'd also add the late-great Refused, but they're a little too leftist for me, despite their amazing music.

And the shadow's so bright, it takes the sun out of the day.

Absolutely

Especially their self titled album.

Example:

"Bullet in your Head" (about television)

This time the bullet cold rocked ya
A yellow ribbon instead of a swastika
Nothin' proper about ya propaganda
Fools follow the rules when the set commands ya
They said it was blue
When the blood was red
That's is how you got a bullet blasted through your head
Blasted through your head
Blasted through your head
I give a shout out to the living dead
Who stood and watched at the feds cold centralized
So serene on the screen
You was mesmerized
Cellular phones soundin' a death tone
Corporations cold
Turn ya to stone before you realize

They load the clip in omnicolor
They pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
Sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And mutha fuckas lost their minds

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

No escape from the mass mind rape
Play it again jack and then rewind the tape
Play it again and again and again
Until ya mind is locked in
Believin' all the lies that they are tellin' ya
Buying all the products that they are selling ya
They say jump
And ya say how high
You're brain dead
Ya gotta f--kin' bullet in your head

Yeah, standin' in line
Believin' the lies
You're bowin' down to the flag
You got a bullet in your head

Wow

That was intense. Thanks for the lyrics I'd of never figured them out.

"Obamney care," Nuff said.

RATM

Try PATRIOTISM by COMPANY FLOW. Just youtube it. Oh yeah, it was written in 1999 as well. Trust me, some rappers know what's really goin on.

RATM voted for Obama

I feel bad for them because they thought that Obama was going to change things. They are good.

20/20 vision and MURALS with metaphors!

Matrix theme. Wonder if they are talking about the New WOrld Airport murals?

Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?

Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?

definitely. even though they

definitely. even though they are pretty leftist, they talk about many of the issues that plague us today. I get so fired up and pissed off when I listen to them... one of my favorites

All I listen to...

It seems that RATM is all I can bring myself to listen to today (well, RATM or The Survival Podcast). I skip over their more overtly communist songs and sift out the freedom-minded lyrics of the rest. For me personally, their self-titled first album and their album of covers (Renegades) are where it's at.

Guided By Voices Called It In 1994

Bob Pollard writes damn fine songs, still kicking it with Boston Spaceships. His song "For Liberty" still gives me chills.

Two anti-war songs on "Mag Earwhig!";

Not Behind The Fighter Jet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ayd-MIyKerw

Militant babies came to me
And told me "Don't be afraid to try"
Phenomenal stunt kids in the street
Popping out of the black ghost pie (it pleases the chef)
Fearless ones-cracked up Jack and Jill
They're down there in the bunker still
You look like a sniper anyway

I'm not behind the fighter jet
I'd much rather back a simple girl
I've seen your plan and it's all wet
A noseload of prophecies coming to me

Caught in the trap where bravery steps
A wounded mercenary bleeds
In the hall of fantastically fine things
Where the path of glory leads
Lately I think it's grown too hard
Coming up with the winning card
But who's gonna beat them in their own backyard
(A motion to remove the entire staff.
Don't forget the double crossing crew)

Pennywise

I still listen to Pennywise fairly regularly and I was very happy to find out that their guitar player Fletcher is a huge RP supporter. You can check out his myspace page by going through the Pennywise page so you can see for yourself. I would post the link but their is some site maintenance going on.

WTF?

RATM are commie bastards. Worst post ever on dailypaul.com

NO-FX has a bunch of

NO-FX has a bunch of anti-government songs. I think the Punk in Drublic album is the easiest to listen to.

I never really cared for them

Till I got older and realized what they were talking about I like the resistance mentality their music helps bring out.
Here is a treat for something deep, beautiful and full of melodies.

RON PAUL 2012

I love RATM!

Even though I am older, more wiser and more capitalist these days, I still have a special place in my heart for Rage. Yes, they have a left-leaning tendency, but they have some excellent commentaries on prisons, foreign policy, totalitarianism, etc. And their music rocks!

Vegas, I'm on the same boat.

Vegas,

I'm on the same boat. I had no clue what they were talking about during high-school and thought they were just angry rebels without a cause.

i definitely see it differently now.

The slogan press on has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.

- Calvin Coolidge

Be revolutionary like Thomas Jefferson, not Che Guvera.

Like so many others, they are really good at identifying what the problems are, and sometimes who it is that is causing them. It is their solutions that suck wet anus. The blatant communist bent and anti-American slant turns me off. I love their music, and I wish they would be revolutionary like Thomas Jefferson, not Che Guvera.

Metallica- All Nightmare Long

Features horrible doings by the govmt

i would recommend ANTI-FLAG.

i would recommend ANTI-FLAG. they hate the government.

also against me and propagandi are awesome punks bands as well.

against me's lyrics from the newest album include topics such as military aggression, and the TV picking out the terrorists.
