Tesla quote on revolutionary scientific ideas

0 votes

I was just reading the wiki page on the Wardenclyffe Tower designed by Tesla, which was supposed to transmit wireless electricity over large distances, along with radio waves, when I came across an inspirational quote at the end of the article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wardenclyffe_Tower

"It is not a dream, it is a simple feat of scientific electrical engineering, only expensive — blind, faint-hearted, doubting world! [...] Humanity is not yet sufficiently advanced to be willingly led by the discoverer's keen searching sense. But who knows? Perhaps it is better in this present world of ours that a revolutionary idea or invention instead of being helped and patted, be hampered and ill-treated in its adolescence — by want of means, by selfish interest, pedantry, stupidity and ignorance; that it be attacked and stifled; that it pass through bitter trials and tribulations, through the strife of commercial existence. So do we get our light. So all that was great in the past was ridiculed, condemned, combatted, suppressed — only to emerge all the more powerfully, all the more triumphantly from the struggle." – Nikola Tesla (at the end of his dream for Wardenclyffe) [Wardenclyffe — A Forfeited Dream]

The article also describes how JP Morgan was one of the largest investors in the project, and how he withdrew funding "when he could not foresee any financial gain from providing free electricity to everyone", and apparently persuaded other investors to do the same.

Radiant energy is at the pinacle of Tesla's research. The energy is not "free". You have to put some energy into the system to get it to start. Once you do, however, you will get much more out of the system than what you put in; enough to power a load and be looped back to keep the system running. This is the basis for a COP(coefficiant of performance) >1 system. I highly recommend that everyone take a look at this site. I have a good chunk of the "energy from the vacume" series, and they are very informative. Disc one and disc two are excelent. Disc one has Tom Bearden explaining what radiant energy is, and disc two shows John Bedini's experiments and machines that tap into the radiant energy.

There is much more than just being able to power appliences wherever you are for free. The more advanced form of radiant energy technology, scalar longitudinal wave interferometry, can be used to vaporize a city or to cure cancer and other diseases. Scalar longitudinal waves exist in the time domain of space-time, but can effect the space domain. There was a story recently about a strange new species of small jelly fish. When we think of an animal's life cycle, we think about it in a straight line: animal is born, grows up, mates, and eventually dies. This new jellyfish turns that idea upsidedown. Instead of dieing after maturing and producing offspring, it reverses its timepattern and reverts to its juvinile state, where it again reverses and begins to grow again. In other words, this jellyfish lives until it is killed. The same concept can be applied to humans as well. You think that b17 is a good cancer cure? You haven't seen anything yet! it may already be here though... or almost here...sort of.

saw an article last week of 'wireless electricity' that has been developed.

edit:

“WIRELESS ELECTRICITY IS HERE (SERIOUSLY)”

“Tesla's dream has come true. After more than 100 years of dashed hopes, several companies are coming to market with technologies that can safely transmit power through the air -- a breakthrough that portends the literal and figurative untethering of our electronic age. Until this development, after all, the phrase "mobile electronics" has been a lie: How portable is your laptop if it has to feed every four hours, like an embryo, through a cord? How mobile is your phone if it shuts down after too long away from a plug? And how flexible is your business if your production area can't shift because you can't move the ceiling lights?
The world is about to be cured of its attachment disorder,” quoting MSN"

Now I can understand

how money can be made on the sale of these devises. But where will additional revenue come from if the electricity is free?

Or have or will they find a way to make money off the ether?

Check it out...this is exciting technology.

Pretty nice guy

Tesla is worthy to be called a hero, but his wireless energy transfer is not very efficient. Whether it is the typically low voltage high current of the inner earth, or the typically high voltage low current atmosphere electrostatics - there are severe transfer loss limitations (go ahead and solve them) and then the inevitable EM health hazards.

Hazards, yeah...

I personally like the idea the DoE funded back in 92 - where researchers took a small amount of radioactive material and doped a 1 inch ceramic cube. Coated the cube with a phosphor made specifically for this device, (called K5 by Kodak), that then emits strongly in the green from the radioactive stimulation. Surrounded the cube with solar cells and they created a low efficiency, very long life voltage source. Gang them together just like you would with standard PV arrays.

I queried the DoE in 01 and they had found the idea novel, but found no record of the funding or research. I was thinking of the possibilities for nuclear waste re-use after a chance encounter with a Los Alamos scientist with the job to bury the toxic junk.

With the current freakish paranoia about radiation and dirty booms, a glowing PV cube is just another idea for the dust bin, as the NRC, NEI and Homeland Security would certainly squash commercialization.

This is the first time

I've read anything other than he died of a heart attack in his sleep.

____________________________

Just weeks before his death, Tesla handed Ralph Bergstressor, a young physicist in the Air force, his paperwork on how to counteract the biological effects of his inventions.

Nikola Tesla died in 1943 in unusual circumstances. Although most books will tell you he died in his sleep, friends & family claim he was run over by a black limo as he crossed the road to feed his pigeons, then placed back in his hotel room. This happened 2 days before he was to meet with the President of the United States to explain the damage that his inventions would cause, including the Philadelphia experiment.

Tesla didn't invent

many of the creations attributed to him but rather improved them. Further details can be found at the address provided. With that said, I do like him...and his work. http://lindsaybks.com/gallery/teslamyth/ttesla1.html

For a person who

supposedly didn't invent, why did he have so many recorded patents?

The following doesn't even scratch the surface of all his patents. Check out the rest at:

I have read that peanut butter and jelly is patented too

The fact is that the patent system is a sham. As long as the "inventor" is willing to pay the money and take the time to follow up, almost anything can be patented. Do people really think that the patent examiner has time to dig into this stuff. Why would it really be better than other government departments?

Lots of obvious prior art has been patented. Most are writen as broad and vague as possible. Many patents are put in to try to prevent competition from doing things in the event that the technology goes in certain directions. More yet seem to be so they can try to blackmail companies or convince a scientifically illiterate jury that their patent has been violated. Often, a company that specializes in this kind of thing just buys them up, and these "patent trolls" then try to scam as much out of it as they can. Most of the time, corporations do not hire the good lawyers (they cost too much), and just pay the scammers a "settlement" to make them go away if they can.

Recently, my company lost a lawsuit on a patent for a control system. When I reviewed the patent, it was obvious that anybody with half a brain who had ever taken a programming course could have told our system was completely different than this patent that really had nothing of substance in it. This happens all the time.

I have seen some great patents, and lots of ridiculous ones. I recently saw an article on how the use of projecting a laser pointer on the wall was patented as an exercise device for a dog. My personal favorite, though was something on the order of a device to spin the delivering mother around an axis centered at her head to help spipn the baby out. A real winner.

You seem to be

implying that Tesla's patents were worth nothing and he may have had some ulterior motive for filing them, Too bad the man isn't alive to defend himself.

And if what you state is the case, which I doubt, then why was the FBI so interested in his papers after his death?

"The Washington Bureau of the FBI went so far as to advise the New York Bureau "to discreetly take the matter up with the State's Attorney in New York City with the view to possibly taking Kosanovich into custody on a burglary charge and obtaining the various papers which Kosanovich is reported to have taken from Tesla's safe." New York was also told to contact the Surrogate Court so stops could be placed against all of Tesla's effects, so that no one could enter them without an FBI agent being present, and New York was to keep Washington advised of all developments." (Cheney, Tesla: Man out of Time, p. 273).
http://www.reformation.org/nikola-tesla.html

He's just trying to

He's just trying to illustrate that patents don't constitute absolute proof that something patented is entirely original.

Aside from that, my understanding is that his papers were probably confiscated by the FBI upon his death primarily due to the "Death Ray" weapon design that he was working on. He apparently tried to sell the design to the US Government, along with other European governments and was turned down.

I was under the impression that...

The technology being developed at Wardenclyffe Tower was for energy transfers, and had possible applications with sending signals... it had nothing to do with 'free energy for all.'

lol!

Tesla and Dr. Paul have a lot in common

I read the Tesla book from Barnes and Noble a few years back and have been a Tesla fan for a long time.

At my work we actually used wireless power transmission - for use in a wireless internet environment to shoot the ethernet signal and power through a window over a small air-gap using a 150KHz transformer on each end. This worked well but it was cost prohibative for my company to use.

Tesla in many ways is like Dr. Paul. Both are men have been ridiculed and have had their ups and downs, and are both anti JP morgan/ Federal Reserve.

I would say it's no coincidence that Tesla's papers were stolen at his time of death.

Tesla has also given inspiration and hope to many, the reality of electricity in American homes, as Dr. Paul gives us the reality of what real liberty actually means and he stands up for it.

As time has passed more people have more reverence for Tesla. I think the same is true for Dr. Paul.

Tesla always had a good demeanor and was a gentle man. So is Dr. Paul.

Tesla was a friend of Mark Twain. I'm sure Dr. Paul enjoys Twain's writings.

This is a good positive post. It's amazing how many DPers here are also into history and science.

I'm glad that others like you have noticed the similarities as well. This was part of the reason why I made the post, as I thought that particular quote could very well apply to the libertarian ideas just the same.

You're right

great post.

I love to read and learn about history.

I believe history is suppose to help future generations avoid the mistakes of the past.

Doesn't seem to quite work out that though, does it?

Nikola Tesla's Electric Car

Nikola Tesla's electric car

After the AC induction motor, we think that the greatest invention of Tesla was the electric car. This was no ordinary battery driven car because this car took its power from the ether, just like an automobile antenna picks up radio waves from the ether.

In 1931, under the financing of Pierce-Arrow and George Westinghouse, a 1931 Pierce-Arrow was selected to be tested at the factory grounds in Buffalo, N.Y. The standard internal combustion engine was removed and an 80-H.P. 1800 r.p.m. electric motor installed to the clutch and transmission. The AC motor measured 40 inches long and 30 inches in diameter and the power leads were left standing in the air—no external power source and no recharging of any batteries was necessary.

At the appointed time, Nikola Tesla arrived from New York City and inspected the Pierce-Arrow automobile. He then went to a local radio store and purchased a handful of tubes (12), wires and assorted resistors. A box measuring 24 inches long, 12 inches wide and 6 inches high was assembled housing the circuit. The box was placed on the front seat and had its wires connected to the air-cooled, brushless motor. Two rods 1/4" in diameter stuck out of the box about 3" in length.

Mr. Tesla got into the driver's seat, pushed the two rods in and stated, "We now have power". He put the car into gear and it moved forward! This vehicle, powered by an AC motor, was driven to speeds of 90 m.p.h. and performed better than any internal combustion engine of its day! One week was spent testing the vehicle. Several newspapers in Buffalo reported this test. When asked where the power came from, Tesla replied, "From the ether all around us".

http://www.reformation.org/nikola-tesla.html

In the seventy eight years since this electric car was tested

and proven to work, our country has put a man on the moon, launched umpteen number of satellites, invented wireless communications, etc.

Yet no one has put this car into production...why?

My guess is that the author of the story probably woke up

I find it amazing that people who claim to believe in free markets, and claim not to think that government are all knowing and all powerful, suddenly believe that things that would make unbelievable profits if brought to market and could give the government a tremendous boost in its power suddenly are suppressed by the man.

I guess it should come as no surprise that the government schools we all went to which were meant to teach us all to be good little statists did a poor job of teaching us about history and science.

Of course, a few of us, like those here at DP managed to slip through the cracks and not become good little statist, and that gives me some hope.

You're making

no sense...what does government have to with manufacturing Tesla's electric car?

Sorry, I guess I was trying to be too general in my reply

The government comment was just that if that much energy could be created out of the thin air (only real, not like the money they create) their spying everywhere would be greatly improved by no need to ever replace batteries, etc. on transmitters, and the amount that they could save on powering vehicles and buildings would be enormous. We all know that money is fungible, and then could be spent on something else. etc. Also, certainly if this was available, they could easily either give the rights to favorite companies, or force them all out of business with a nationalized industry based on the idea.

My problem is simply with the incredible amount of energy claimed to be pulled out of the thin air. Lets take the claims of the 90 mph car. On flat ground, tractive effort needs to overcome two types of running resistance: Rolling resistance and aerodynamic drag. Though the car shown in these links was huge, to give the ideas the benefit of the doubt(and reduce my calculations), lets use the small European car example, about 2600 lbs, with 20 square feet frontal area. From the Bosch handbook, 3rd edition, at 90 mph, we can expect a drag force of about 38.5 kW, and rolling resistance of a bit over 7 kW, for a total of about 45.5 kW(61 hp).

Now, lets look at mean solar flux projected onto the earth's cross section. It averages 1371 W/m^2. Lots of this energy is absorbed by the atmosphere, and the earth is not a cross section, so this is shared by the actual surface. The general rule is generally considered half, or about 686 W/m^2. If this car had projected top surface area of 12m^2, and could absorb all this radiation, it would be able to get 8.2 kW. So, this essentially says that there is at least 5.5 times the radiation of the sun (assuming perfect efficiency of the motor and drive train, which is of course not the case so we need at least another 10%) floating everwhere that we can harvest easily.

We already know that significant exposure to sun can cause cancer, and there are theories of cancer being caused by being too close to power lines, at far lower energy levels. It would seem to me that with this level of energy everywhere, nobody could possibly survive to adulthood, let alone old age.

Nevertheless, I would think that if the government knew of some way to harvest that kind of energy, it would be doing it for its own benefit, and that never bodes well for the people.

Oh, well, I have already wasted too much time on this. And I am getting more and more convinced that these kinds of things are circulated more to keep us from concentrating on the real problems than for any truths they might contain, but who knows?

Possibly because this might

Possibly because this might be a fabricated story:

Though, I guess we'll never know if it did exist. However, in accordance with the rest of his work, it is indeed a possibility.

Tesla did have someone who believed in him

and was willing to finance his work. That person was John Jacob Astor, but he conveniently drowned on the maiden voyage of the Titanic. They didn't have air travel in those days so guess those in power had to deal with their enemies by ship.

By the way JP Morgan owned the Titanic and was suppose to be on her maiden, but he conveniently canceled How lucky for him.

If Astor had lived I wonder what our country would be like today. For sure there would be no wars over oil. And from what I've read about him he probably would have fought the formation of the Federal Reserve. At the time of his death I believe he was considered the richest man in the world.

I have come to believe nothing in this world happens by accident and there is no such thing as a coincidence.

You can read about it and much more at:

http://www.reformation.org/nikola-tesla.html

yeah, isn't that something else?

i heard some other bankers died on the titanic. they happened to NOT support the federal reserve. convenient.

Yep

you're right, they were Benjamin Guggenheim and Isa Strauss, they both opposed the Fed.

What a different world it would be if JP Morgan's Titanic didn't sink in 1912.

If not for the

Titanic sinking then we wouldn't have ever have Celine Dion's my heart will go on song to the soundtrack of the Movie TITANIC.. the world would be lost with out it.. I mean ppphish... What's free energy of value when you've got Celine.
