There is not a shortage its manipulated...

Okay if we want to comfort ourselves and claim supply and demand thats fine just know this, not many Americans are into reloading. Being a reloader myself I can say that you can get gun powder you can get brass and even the bullets are too hard to come by but primers are impossible to find for large rifles.Without primers all the rest of the bullet parts are useless.
Searching for months waiting for restock from any major supplier is no backorder, its like reloaders will be SOL. They know what they are doing.
Time for some re education I guess.
Lets get to the root of the problems and if we want the snake to die we have to go for the head.

I guess our state bucks the trend. There is a decent supply of ammo up here in the great north. You can ussually find what you are looking for, not in great numbers, but decent invenroty considering the "score"

This is like being surprised by a pepperoni shortage

After pizza sales quadruple. A gun with no bullets is a paperweight. If millions of people bought millions of guns, it stands to reason they're going to want some bullets to go with them.

Facts, people! We need facts!

I don't see any postings here that provide hard data about ammo sales, retail inventory levels and production quantities. Absent solid information, we're just engaging in blather.

My blather:
My local Wal Mart has had its ammo shelves basically empty since November. A search of four or five large Internet ammo sources revealed the same situation...Out of stock on practically every popular caliber. No back orders being taken. When looking for .380s, I noticed that the only ones in stock were those made by foreign manufacturers.

Plenty of fuel for my normally suspicious mind, but where's the data? Why are the manufacturers not issuing Press Releases on the subject of availability?

Something definitely smells.

Every time I go into

Every time I go into Cabella's I see no ammo shortage. The only ammo that I see over there that is short is 7.62X39. Now didn't We here of trade restrictions imposed upon Russia for teaching Georgia a lesson. Either there is a trade restriction or patriots are buying it up like crazy. I would favor the latter. As a matter of fact I have seen people ask the guy in wallyworld for 7.62X39. If You can't find ammo for Your rifle then get another caliber such as 5.45X39 which I see all the time on AIMsurplus.

there are such things as good lies, then these lies I would consider to be GOOD.

Not a contrived shortage: Patriots who love freedom and the Constitution!

Bring on more of these contrived shortages!

the people that I know who purchase ammo regularly are not

having big problems.

Walmart has had stuff and the smaller shops are up and down with stuff coming in eventually.

Dear Valued Customer:
Please take a moment to note important changes set forth by the Defense Logistics Agency:
Recently it has been determined that fired munitions of all calibers, shapes and sizes have been designated to be Demil code B. As a result and in conjunction with DLA’s current Demil code B policy, this notice will serve as official notification which requires Scrap Venture (SV) to implement mutilation as a condition of sale for all sales of fired munitions effective immediately. This notice also requires SV to immediately cease delivery of any fired munitions that have been recently sold or on active term contracts, unless the material has been mutilated prior to sale or SV personnel can attest to the mutilation after delivery. A certificate of destruction is required in either case.
Thank you,

From what I heard,

that order was rescinded, under pressure of the civilian marksmanship program, and others.

I think that order has been removed, very shortly after it was issued.

Just visited my local gun

Just visited my local gun dealer the other day. Told me he had people coming in asking to buy up all the 7.62x39 he had. Said he limits his sales to four boxes of 20 per customer so that everybody gets some. I got my four.

First off, Rense is a complete BS site.

Second, local gun stores around here, along with the gun shows, are all stating the same thing. Demand is unlike anything they have ever witnessed. There is no conspiracy here. People are scared about what's coming and stocking up. Plain and simple.

The combined branches of our military....

Easily can chew up millions of rounds a day - ever been on a division range? Even pogs can be seen qualifying everyday - and combat arms units can really go through some ammo in a very short amount of time - and Rangers and the rest of the special op's guys just about live at the range when they are stateside.....and thats just stateside.....supply was tight even before the November election...

From those 2005 numbers - its almost 5 million rounds a day......

This story is purely speculation. Rense.com seems to have a lot of this. Just because it sound like a good conspiracy doesn't necessarily make it true. Let's stick to topics that contain a few facts?

I think it's just the free market at work.

People perceive future abolition of firearms and ammunition.

Supply and Demand, plain and simple.

Supply and Demand, plain and simple.

The demand is far outweighing the supply. This is likely going to fall on deaf ears here because it’s not some vast cool-sounding conspiracy, but I’m here to tell you the shortage isn’t because some elite power put the kabash on production.

Think about it:

* The seasonal run for competitive shooters has begun- they’re gonna buy up a lot. It’s important to note that most of the competition guns are in military calibers. Equally important is the fact that most competitors load their own, so now you have a big strain on reloading components as well. Don’t even get me started on that.

* The administration has put the firearms industry into a frenzy over the whole “kick in the door and take the guns” idea and every other damn thing to do with disarming the people. This has caused every redneck and scared citizen in the country to buy everything in sight, regardless of whether or not they even know what it is, or even if they don’t own a gun in that caliber.

* ANYTHING in a military caliber, make or model is not only strained from civilian sales (everyone wants to be Tacti-Cool), but lest we forget, there’s a war on that is about to escalate and expand. The primary military arsenals for the US cannot keep up with the needs of the military, so much so that they have been outsourcing to IMI and the UK to offset it for the last 3 years. The commercial plants try to take up the slack, but now they're caught between both military AND civilian demand- both of which are hefty. IF there has been a downscale of production and availability for civilian sales, it is likely so the plants can focus on defense contracts, which supersede private sale.

* Finally, it is a demographic/local economy issue as well. There are more or less shooters in one area than another, and also less money in one area or another. This is going to affect the stocks in the stores.

* Not even the police OR the Feds can get any ammo to train their officers. Case in point- on Friday, I saw a Border Patrol agent in a shop trying to order 8 cases of ammunition for spring training. He is currently on an 18-month wait for their order due to massive demand. The local chief here is a friend of mine, and even asked ME if I knew where he could get training ammo, because everywhere within a 100 mile radius is sold out and backordered.

As for me, I’ve got several rifles awaiting parts to complete for people, and no guarantee of delivery date. Why? Because everyone and their dog has come to me asking for ARs, long range rifles, carbines and everything else shy of a grenade launcher or a shape-charge (mostly), and about 3/4 of them wouldn’t know what to do with it if I built it for them- they just want it. The manufacturers simply can’t keep up with it all and the inventory is drying up.

I'm thinking that around Summer things will begin to settle down in the market. People will have gotten it all out of their system, or they'll be out of money.

ammo

i've been buying as much as I can afford, although it is quite expensive. Got some .308 rounds for nearly $44 per box. I feel like I have enough now, but I am going to keep buying. Ammo will be worth far more than gold in the coming months.

Dick's Sporting Goods in my area was completely out of .308 and .223. Although hunting season is ramping up, it's still very low. Hard to find anything.

The other store, Gander Mountain, has probably more actual guns than boxes of ammo. 3 shelves completely empty. Only stuff really available is .22 and low caliber.

Yep, Boise is drying up...

...it seems.

Either a "contrived shortage" or a lot of awakened people acting accordingly. I'm hoping it's the latter.

Wow, that sucks

Is this nation wide, anybody know? I have a creepy feeling that the NW has been targeted for "special treatment" and we may be getting cut off the ammo in preparation.
