Why Christians should oppose use of marijuana:
Two recent stories in the news have triggered in me a desire to warn parents of the seriousness of marijuana use.
The first was the news that Michael Phelps was caught using a bong. Without question, Phelps became a national hero as he won gold medal after gold medal this past year in the summer Olympics.
Both adults and kids admired and respected his achievements. So, I was terribly disappointed to hear that he had engaged in such activities, but what bothered me even more was the relative lack of outrage concerning his behavior. Kellogg Co. stopped using Phelps in its advertising campaign, but Subway stuck to its man. This is sad.
I believe that our nation is moving dangerously close to the normalization of marijuana.
The second story supports my gut feeling. President Obama is very close to appointing Gil Kerlikowske as the new drug czar for the federal government. Kerlikowske is currently the chief of police in Seattle, Wash. In 2004, Seattle enacted a law placing marijuana use as the lowest priority of all possible legal violations.
Pot smoking became less of an issue than "jay walking." In addition, Seattle is known for its annual "Hempfest." During the "festivities," the police provide oversight, but are instructed to make no arrests for the use of marijuana.
Throughout my life I have consistently opposed marijuana. Although I have never personally smoked pot, various people whom I know and love most certainly have. I have witnessed its effects firsthand.
I have engaged in many a discussion with those who consider marijuana use not such a big deal. I have also talked with many parents about how to oppose marijuana. This brings me to my concern. Most parents fall back on one of two arguments.
First, they use a rationale that there are detrimental physical effects to smoking pot. I believe this has some reasonableness to it, but it is hard to argue this case when an increasing number of doctors consider marijuana's negative side effects to be less than other legal drugs of choice.
As a Christian, my opposition to marijuana must not be dependent upon the most recent medical opinion. While Michael Phelps may be able to win a gold medal and smoke pot, and while our current president does not fully grasp the detrimental effects of marijuana use, you as a parent should continue to teach its evils.

its' evil's what are you talking about?
God gave us herbs and seed bearing plants to use for meat, are you saying God is evil?
this is quite ridiculous to even think.
marijuana is only evil to the petroleum product corporations who have great profits to gain off it with there patents, also show the reality of how deadly it is in comparison to alcohol, cigarettes, driving in a car, or flying in a plane, or people dying in there bathtubs from drowning.
i guess if you think marijuana is evil, the constitution must be evil too it was written on hemp paper, the pilgrims must of been evil to they came to america on a boat made from hemp, maybe george washington was a terrorist he grew marijuana. maybe most of us have been hoodwinked considering it used to pay are taxes for years in america in the 1700's
please study things before saying it is evil.
Wisdom is better than weapons of War.....
so does anyone have a rebuttal to this?
i would like to see one based on logic instead of hearsay
Wisdom is better than weapons of War.....
If someone wants individual freedom for themselves
they must be willing to grant it to others as well!
Oppose it all you
Oppose it all you want.............just let other adults have the freedom and liberty given to them by GOD to make that decision for themselves.
I personally know
people who suffer from medical conditions and who can not function without marijuana. Now, some of them toke up a bit more than they need to just to function, but they're not hurting anyone. The only reason marijuana is illegal is because hemp products compete with some industries in this country that have some very strong lobbies: petroleum, lumber, pharmaceutical and textile, and probably more.
Christians opposed to marijuana
For those of the Christian faith as I am......If you believe the words of THE BIBLE and the book of GENESIS then you have to believe that all plants and vegetation were placed here by God himself. He covered the earth in seed and fruit bearing plants because it was pleasing to him. What part of this is cloudy......ARE you telling me that God made a mistake when he created marijuana. Who is the government to come along in the past hundred years and interpret how we should use Gods' creation? PERIOD.
I don't think "Christians"
I don't think "Christians" are to blame--their leaders should all be taken out back of the church and beaten though!
Modern day Christian leaders are the definition of hypocrisy. It's too bad that their followers are the definition of sheep.
When will Christians rise up and take back their religion from these scoundrels? Oh wait, I guess the same could be said about every single American with regards to our government, huh?
Ah well, I guess ALL people are idiots or else we wouldn't be in any of the mess we are today.
Never mind my rhetoric, go back to grazing... nothing to see here.....
He is high on opium, yet

Cannabis and the Christ: Jesus used Marijuana
The Greek title "Christ" is the translation of the Hebrew word Messiah, which in English becomes "The Anointed" D. The Messiah was recognized as such by his being anointed with the holy anointing oil, the use of which was restricted to the instillation of Hebrew priests and kings
The ancient recipe for this anointing oil, recorded in the Old Testament book of Exodus (30: 22-23) included over nine pounds of flowering cannabis tops, Hebrew "kaneh-bosm" B, extracted into a hind (about 6.5 litres) of olive oil, along with a variety of other herbs and spices. The ancient chosen ones were literally drenched in this potent cannabis holy oil.

Cannabis essential oil? Wow!
I've often wondered about that. By any chance, have you ever tried to make it? Is this made the same way an essential oil, like peppermint, is made?
i dunno.. it sounded good?

the satanists were right about one thing.
As a christian I'm sick and tired of the Christian community
being drunk on themselves. Christianity should be between the Christian and his God. But that is not enough for most of them, they want rules imposed on the rest of the country, as they feel they are required to abide by.
It was the Christian Right that gave us George W. Bush twice. I personally am sick and tired of the Christian Right movement, who refuses to see the importance of FREEDOM of Religion. Or in down to earth terms "Freedom from another’s religion".
One of these days their wishes might come true, that the powers that be will force another religion on them (Muslim, or what-ever).
Even Jesus said "The men of this world (non=believers) have more wisdom than the men of light (believers), Jesus of course was talking about money issues, but the same can be said about the rest of life.
As a Christian I can honestly say that that many Christians today are some of the stupidest people I know. Absolute simpletons!
And to make worse, my personal opinion about the end times is that these Christian simpletons will actually usher in the antichrist, and it will NOT be the atheists!
An I know many Christians who feel the same ways i do!

I recommend
The reason marijuana is illegal is to keep hemp illegal.I recommend everyone interested on the subject to go get The Emperor Wears No Clothes by Jack Herer. That's the real reason.Hemp could save the world.

I completely agree. ALL cannabis, and it appears that soon, all herbs, should be decriminalized, and furthermore, invested into for truley a sustainable planet and PEOPLE.

I deeply am appreciative of your veiw. I have been fighting for ALL cannabis to be legal since 1992. Very rare do I come across someone who really gets it.... I think you are right in what you are saying and I know experts agree with you, including Jack Herer and Chris Conrad, and Nikki Conrad.

hey mister thompson, why
hey mister thompson, why don't we make Christianity illegal? Think that is ridiculous? well, so are pot laws. Marijuana is a seed baring plant, hence it is in the bible. Look it the fuck up. Marijuana can be very spiritual, it that not what christianity is about? As for Marijuana being detrimental, where are your arguments? Where is the proof? The only thing detrimental is how laws have forced people to kill and steal. Fuck you mister thompson. You can live your life how you want to, don't tell me how to live mine.
Think for yourself, question authority
It's been my observation
that the sins, commandments and rules that are laid out by religious organizations probably are distillations of human behaviors over time. Thousands of years of "civilization" has shown that certain behaviors can be detrimental to both the individual and then the collective. Hence, the desire for commandments, sins, rules, directives, etc. The bottom line (to me) is that probably these rules were originally meted out in the best interest of the individual (and ulitimately the collective), and were probably meant as healthy guidelines. Let's be real, there is nothing more personal than personal salvation, and many of the the items that Christians like to legislate are areas wherein abuse of said directives, guidelines, etc is likely to cause personal angst, sadness, etc. But it's not an offense to God, God is just sad that we have been given agency and with that agency are choosing poorly. God's love is still unconditional. God will still love us (the 'sinner'), we will just not be using our God given powers and resources as wisely as God would like. In the process of going from a Love based religion, Christianity, (like most beauracratic endevours) insisted on using the good intentions paradigm... that turned into a first class theological power grab. All that said, I am a middle-aged, mother of three, born and raised in a rigid/intense Christian Faith, I regularly attend and participate in the religion of my ancestors, AND I absolutely feel that government is the wrong direction for dealing with vices. I agree with the above posts that point to the hypocricy of many religious organizations (read:Christians). Hypocricy does for Christianity what the Republicans have done for Political Policy.... shows little or no credibility. It is my earnest prayer and meditation that more Christians will start behaving like Christ of the New Testament who ushered in the Higher Law, and not the Eye for an Eye God of the Old Testament. [Let's leave that to the other Old Testament based religions, eh?:)].
I thought I just read
recently that the whole reason Marijuana is illegal is that when Henry Ford was building cars he was making part of the car out of hemp and in fact was going to use it as a fuel. Then the bankers or someone with influence pushed for cars to be run on oil. To make it happen Hemp had to be outlawed. Is my head cold talking or does any of this make sense?
It seems to me if the ordinary people don't have money for weed then the bankers would consider legalizes it to make fuel to run cars. Seems like more money for them and their political bed partners.

The 1st Pot Prohibition...
..was in San Antonio (I believe they were 1st). As a tool for busting Mexicans they had nothing on. Like the stamp act, it gave the local law an excuse to then search, detain and even imprison the undesired Mexicans. In San Fransciso similiar local laws were enacted for opium. Again, the taget was the minority Chinese rail workers. It seems sometimes these people like to mix with the whites in their off time. Sometimes they even develop an interest in the white women. Now we can't have that can we???
MMJ You posted...
as a response to "why is this post here", you said,"know thy enemy". Are you suggesting that pot heads are YOUR ENEMY? If so, I am courious if you could find a more mellow group to pick as your enemy? I mean really, are a bunch of cupcake eating, video game playing, couch patatoes really that big a threat to your way of life? I suppose you could always pick on the handi-capped, if the stoners turn out to be too big a challenge.
