You are paying $4.51 with the new 1.00 tax? Where the hell do you live?
Massachusetts is over $7.00 a pack and thats not with the new tax.

we're a tobacco producing state.
Up till yesterday, I was only paying $3.51 for Marlboro, and I could get Mavericks for $2.65.
Not any more.

cost me 6.36 a pack yesterday here in CT. Sheesh. A few years back I was buying from overseas, I guess we're back to that.

One of my elderly clients
was buying her cigs from an Indian tribe in New York. She was 77 and living on Soc Sec. She called me frantic because she received a letter from the State income tax saying she owed them $175.00 in sales tax. I guess they convinced the Indians to give up their client info and they sent letters to all Mass residents to pay up. They are trying to do the same thing in New Hampshire but I think they told them to F OFF.

Some stores jumped the gun with the new tax but the ones that are waiting until april 1st are still under 40 a carton. The market basket is sill selling marlboros for 38$ a carton.
Gee, instead of buying
gold and silver this might be a much better option. I wonder how well it holds up?

On the other hand, I think it takes 5 years to grow your own because of the long aging process, you may have quit by then...

Don't really care, I have been rolling my own with the tops loading machine. Just picked up some real smooth Drum turkish blend tobacco.
I got it down to about 12 bucks per cartoon til they raise the RYO tax in April from 1 buck per pound to 24 bucks on packaged tobacco.. They don't miss a thing.
I can spare the 2 minutes to crank out a pack.
I guess I have to make sure my two step daughters with their bastard children get their health insurance, day care and food stamps and housing while they work part time waitressing for cash.

when the tax on cigarettes
when the tax on cigarettes got too high in Communist Red Canada the revenue fell dramatically. Smuggling of cigarette became a huge business for the Native Indian bands. The Indians don't pay the taxes and can travel across uncontrolled parts of the boarder. It was thought that 50 % of the cigarettes sold in Canada were illegal. More profitable than hard drugs. The only solution was to lower the taxes and gain control of the revenue again.

I know some people who are growing their own now, and I may do that too.
And I'll definitely participate in any black market activity for cigarettes.

The Federal Tax on Cigarettes
used to be 37 cents a pack.
Now they just raised that by 156% more than what it was.
A Buck more a pack since yesterday ?
That's brutal ....... I get mine from a six nations indian reserve so I'm paying 15 bucks a carton.
