"active forum topics" needs an update.

0 votes

hi,
i am a mod and have not been posting here as much lately.

i think we need to update the categories where people post. i am responding to the post about reasons NOT to send people here because of the NON topic topics.

this site is about the good doctor and alot of topics can be attributed to his philosophy and yet that can be detrimental to first time viewers of the site.

imho, it would be best to update the categories for posting and be up to the mods to move any posts which pop up in the "daily paul general forum". i think the word "general" makes it just too easy and most people do post there so their post will be read cuz that's where we all go. i know i have always posted in that forum.

this is how the ron paul forums do it. if a post is not where it's supposed to be it is moved to the topic that fits.

i would like - and hopefully with others - to see the site about the good doctor and the posts be a place where new people can find about the good doctor which ARE about the good doctor.

Add IdeaScale as the Forum

I found this website which can be very useful in the Daily Paul...

What is IdeaScale?

IdeaScale enables companies to build living/breathing Digg style communities. IdeaScale is based on the simple model of crowdsourcing. It begins with an idea posted to your IdeaScale community by a user. Each idea can be expanded through comments by the community. The ultimate measure of an idea is determined by a voting system. Any idea can be voted to the top or buried back down to the bottom. It combines the "wisdom of the crowds" concept with Web 2.0 models like Digg.

Just leave it alone.

Don't crater to some crybaby that has shallow friends that he is afraid to send here.

I made a post asking the guests if the topics "scared them away" and 95% responded favorably about the variety.

No offense, but just leave DP ALONE!!!!! LEAVE BRITTANY ALONE TOO!!!!

LOL.

I count at least 3 ad hominims on this one.

WAHOR!!

That's quite an emotional

That's quite an emotional response. Have anything to back up those ad hominems, or your flawed ad hoc survey, comprised of people that have been viewing the site for a while and already know about Ron Paul...how about you ask the people that have never heard of Ron Paul and have never seen this site before, or have seen this site once or twice, and then haven't come back? There used to be thousands of people on this site every day. They each have their own reasons for not coming here now...unless you ask them, you don't really know why. Asking people that come here regularly, even though they don't login regularly, isn't going to tell you why other people don't come here.

I asked to hear from the newer people.

Some regulars chimed in, as well as some recent guests. I have never seen "thousands" of people logged in. Sounds like your math is pretty screwy as well.

I can't seem to pull up the post through a search, But I can assure you, the whiners were the extreme minority.
Take it or leave it. I could care less.
Point is, that it is not your site, or anyone elses to change how they see fit.

That decision is up to ONE person, and I think he's doing a damn fine job.

I have never seen

I have never seen "thousands" of people logged in. Sounds like your math is pretty screwy as well.

I don't know if the number of people logged in ever reached over a thousand, but the number of people logged in + guests has been in the thousands. Your account is only 17 weeks old, not near old enough to have seen those days, but maybe you were visiting here at that point, I don't know. I'm talking between a year and a year and a half ago.

I don't recall the owner of the site forbidding anyone from asking for changes or making suggestions. I think you've joined the "whiners" by whining about people asking for or suggesting changes to the site.

That decision is up to ONE person, and I think he's doing a damn fine job.

He is doing a good job. That doesn't mean there couldn't be improvements. He doesn't have to make any changes if he doesn't want, but why should people not ask for or suggest them?

complete overhaul....

I though Michael was going to revamp this a while back. The about DP tab explains that while this site is not offically linked to Dr. Paul, it's aim is to help him get elected. A little dated, don't ya think.

DP has taken on a life of it's own and it by members activity clearly is about enlightenment, action and supporting each other.

The important thing to me, is not what category you choose when you post but the overall design. Check out opednews.com scroll down and you will see about 8 categories each with posts.

Our categories could include:
Breaking News
Take Action
9/11 Discussions
Zietegist Discussions
Gardening/Survival Board

too many topics and my coffee hasn't kicked in. You get the picture, your bright - sunny!

Yes, at least update categories and define clearly.

I posted something the other day and really wasn't sure where to put it. I actually think more categories would be better, but it is still hard to find previous posts. For that reason, I don't go back to Forum. I wind up with 20 shortcuts on desktop to follow up.

One idea I just had is why could you not break down Active Forum Topics on the right side into a few sub-topics. (Eliminate recent comments at bottom ) And then you could click on sub-topic to read more. We all come here for differenct reasons. I like to see things that people are doing and bills that we need to call our officials on. Others ejoy the discussions etc.. Maybe each sub title would only have a certain number of posts you see on front page. Important ones still stay active.

Notice the drop down tabs on right and the breaking news below.
Something like this layout might work for DP .
I agree on a "bill tracking tab" but with a drop down there could be many categories for topics!

(And maybe even a few taverns lol!! ...I would name one Galts Gulch)

Anyway...check it out...

Perfect.

I do miss the flashing "contact your representatives" window that was at the top of the page at one time. Most important..... I like how easy this site is to navigate. It's the best.

Your idea is definitely doable. I think it would be an improvement, too.

it seems too compatmentalized.

I do like how Downsize DC makes it fast and easy to contact your Reps about important Bill's or Act's,to contact your rep to co-sponsor an act.

I like the setup at the dailypaul as is. I guess I just dont like "CHANGE" :o)

I agree with you on opednews being too compartmentalized.....

I just like the idea of more (categories) threads surviving longer than our current options.

Active Forum Topics holds about 20 threads, of no particular category. I think we could benefit from opednews layout if active threads were displayed by category.

I hope I am making sence.

thanks let us hope

for the feedback. i'm going to check out opednews.com's layout.

i guess i was not looking at the big picture. i just want more people to come here. and ok, i didn't even look at the "about DP". yeah, it's outdated allright...lol

i don't do web design but i know it takes time and michael probably wants to do it. it's probably just a big project ya know.

we can help.

forums

I like invasionboard-ish style forums. Easier to navigate, search, organize, moderate etc... But then I guess it wouldn't be a blog.
