I've had a credit card through Citi since 1991. I don't use it (or any other credit cards) much anymore, but last month when I was laid off I put a bill on the card due to a temporary cash flow problem. When the bill came, I wrote a check and paid it, same as always. A few days ago I got another bill from them, a late fee and "finance charge" for $30. It seems the original bill was due the 17th, I mailed my payment on the 13th, and somehow it didn't post until the 20th.
Long story short, I called up Citi and said I thought it was absurd for them to charge me due to the ineptness of the post office. The chirpy woman on the line gave me a load about not being able to waive the fee until I finally got very pissed and said I wouldn't use the card again. Just as I was ready to bust out how I've already paid, via taxes, plenty of money to bail out her damn company, she put me on hold, came back a moment later and said the charge would be removed.
These people are chiselers. I don't like to get upset at poor customer service shlubs, but the gall of charging me $30 for no reason and then being unhelpful dicks when I kindly ask them to not rip me off really set me off.

in only 15 months my mortgage has changed 3 times because of banks failing. funny thing though, what if they all fail? ha!! my mortgage is now in the hands of JP MORGAN so they say and they are threatening forclosure over a disputed escrow overage. how does that work? good luck!
