Does anyone believe that we've actually 'touched the bottom' in this recession/depression?

I watched some talking heads today.... from the sound of them, lying bastards that they are, you'd think this was just a little 'blip' on the screen and we're on our way out of the woods.

Have they forgotten the trillions that have been printed that will crush the economy the rest of the way once it reaches you and I?

Have they forgotten the millions of people out of work?

Have they forgotten that we are a country that doesn't produce much anymore and that what we produce costs too much?

Here's my deal... I came out of the computer industry in 2001 after that market collapsed on itself (go into computers...it's the future....sure). Luckily I had a trade in my back pocket and started my own hardwood flooring business and have done it full time ever since.

Right now, the economy is so bad that I've been spending my days home or working as a substitute teacher in local schools. I had to take a weekend job as a security guard in order to bring in some money to cover the bills that are starting to drown us.

How is this going to be over? What are they talking about. Even if this did represent the bottom, it will take years to climb out of the abyss we've fallen into. And we Ron Paul proponents know a little too much to believe that this represents the end of anything.

A brief respite, maybe. A lull before the next sh*tstorm...

We will be eating out of our supplies for now, praying for the warmer weather so I can start the garden. Hoping we can continue to meet the mortgage payments and keep the power on at the same time.

As Yogi said "It ain't over till it's over."

No. Nothing goes straight

No. Nothing goes straight down on a chart. The rally will be followed by a horrible crash. imho

Municipal bonds will go bankrupt in some areas. Municipalities will be forced to merge and give the capitals of the state all control, then we will have our little revolution.

Recovery or a cruel Trick

I think the newscasters are simply trying to get Joe and Jane couch potato to buy more chips and beer with their welfare money, instead of putting money aside for their future.

Suckers' rally- Nothing to get excited about-Listen to Peter

The stock market and the true economy are two different things. Just because people rushed in to buy stocks last week doesn't mean that the fundamentals of the actual economy have gotten any better.

Check out Peter Schiff's talk at Lew Rockwell:

This is long, about an hour and fifteen minutes but, it's good.

Peter is much more grounded in reality than the talking heads on mainstream tv.

Recovery is just around the corner, don't you know!

I expect to hear that recovery is just around the corner every month for the next decade or two. After that the electric grid will probably have failed and we won't be hearing much of anything in the way of news.

We can never recover, simply because this is not an ordinary depression, but the first leg down in the collapse of the industrial age for lack of energy to fuel it. As far as history goes, if you don't know where you have been and where you are going, then you don't really know where you are.

A puppet which bends to the soul's tyranny.
And lo, the body is not eternal,
For it must feed on the flesh of others,
Lest it return to the dust whence it came.
Therefore the soul deceives and despises."

They haven't even touched the CDS's yet.

Until they do we are not even close to touching bottom. Because I've heard numbers of anywhere from 62T to 100T. That's Trillion with a "T"

But none of the talking heads are doing an in depth special on that can of worms, are they?

IT IS NOT OVER YET!!!!

Here is my prediction on when to see signs of normalness ...

http://www.dailypaul.com/node/67968

Some states will have to go into some sort of bankruptcy before things get better. And there is no mechanism for this so it could be a long drawn out process.

I will say this ...

The states that move forward on the sovereignty issue will be the ones most likely to recover quicker.

WAHOR!!

Cali Michigan and Florida will get bailed out

Because of their high number of electoral votes.

Can you imagine what will happen when ...

Some states get bailed out and others do not ...

You ain't seen nothing yet.

WAHOR!!

They are all getting bailed out right now

"States Stabilization Funds" are a part of the stimulus plan.

Yes, in terms of dollars

In terms of Gold, not so much.

It will be interesting when teasuries go belly up though. No stimulus can hide the truth then. Only a war, where we plunder another country can save us, then.

What we are

witnessing is just the beginning of the transfer of wealth.

Did anyone

see the story about the 50 trillion just disappearing? I wonder where it disappeared to?

I would love to read more....

It was on NBC nightly news the other night

I can't say which day it was though.

p.s. And yes I like to watch the (made up) news so I know what kind of bs is being spewed forth.

3 years after the '29 crash...

...is when Wallstreet hit the bottom. It took until 1954 for the Market to return to the pre-crash level. If we figured the market for inflation, I have no Idea when we would have actuall hit the "recovery" point. Needless to say, it's going to be some time before we recover from this debacle, and personally I don't believe the bottom is in. W/ massive inflation on the horizon, how will most of us actually know when we have actually returned to the previous highs? I like Schiffs' method, comparing the Markets to gold bars. takes a little figuring though.

The Great Depression had a series of bull and bear surges, some spanning years. I heard this morning that the 'recession' we are in now actually started in 2000!

I try not to think about it

Sometimes, while life seems to be in a "depression" for most folks I find that most cope rather well after a while. However the banks, which, as I understand it, took a serious blow from subprime loans, which in turn had its impact on the economy. I won't argue that there are numerous other reasons. Sometimes I would like to think that times will turn around soon, as your post asks us the same question. However, I saw something from the IMF a while ago and no matter how soon someone tells things will turn around I can't believe them.
http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2007/10/imf-mortgage-reset...
It is a chart that shows mortgage loans that have interest rate 'resets' or changes and what year those loans begin changing. As you can see many pay-option loans have a reset coming soon and lasting a while, with many more loan rate changes to come. Now, on this website http://ml-implode.com/
I thought I read an article that mentioned the percentage of payoption mortgages that go into default once the rate begins changing and it was close to 65%, but don't quote me.
So do I think it will get better soon? No.

I heard today...

That something like one in every four hundred houses has been foreclosed on. Unbelievable!
