Media attacks on earmarks picking up steam.

Anyone here notice the onslaught of attacks on earmarks going on right now in the media? It's coming from both sides (Republican and Democrat). I think the "powers that be" discovered a loophole in the system where they can now attack well intentioned congressman doing their job. This is disgusting... they realized that most of the public has no idea what an earmark is, let alone it's purpose, letting them get away with a huge misinformation campaign. I've made it a goal of mine to educate all of my friends on this and they seem pretty receptive to it, which is rare. I just let them know that it's another way of giving more power to the executive branch and destroying the legitimacy of a three branch system. I think this issue sheds a light on the intentions of the media and it's push for unregulated presidential power. They're not even discussing the huge sum of money that is left over after all the earmark. I love how the earmarks are considered "Pork" when the bill it's self is one big pork bill. Just my two cents for the day. :)

Earmarks and spending are

Earmarks and spending are totally different. An earmark is basically returning some federal money to your constituents (even though Dr. Paul doesn't like earmarks all together, I think he sees this as an accountability issue) while spending is, has and always will be the big problem.

Major news channels

are just going to have to put this issue in the limelight and let someone explain to the public exactly what earmarks are. If not, then this will just continue to fester beneath the surface.
It's amazing the amount of control the media has over the general public.
Here again, I don't know if guys like Cavuto are ignorant or devious.

I agree with you.

'Earmarks' are an issue in the media for just one reason: Ron Paul.

Don't kid yourself into thinking otherwise. Nobody in the mainstream Press knew what an 'earmark' was before Tim Russert attacked Dr. Paul on the topic, and now the issue is being exploited.

If I recall...

Wasn't it McCain that started this whole earmark thing? He was always talking about 'pork barrel spending' during his campaign...

And then Obama jumped on that ship and started making promises to remove earmarks... and now that he hasn't people are bugging out.

Of course they'll try to villainize Paul for taking earmarks.

good observation.

It really wasn't connected to "pork barrel spending" til BO and McCain started up their BS left/right campaign.

Could just as easily title

Could just as easily title media "ignorance" on earmarks.

Everyone already knows their ignorance.

I'm referring to the fact that the discussion of earmarks has increased tremendously since RP came out and asked congress to put more in spending bills. This is going to have the effect of discouraging congress from doing their job.
