Gold for bread in Zimbabwe

This video doesn't need much introduction, it mainly speaks for itself.

So much for the idea that gold is "worthless" when the SHTF. One gram of gold gets you ten loaves of bread in today's Zimbabwe.

My first thought, seeing the people digging near a stream,

Because I have had to deal with arbitrary 'environmental' organizations. What do we think will happen in this country?? Swarms of government agencies will be fining and jailing anyone digging or panning--even on their own private property! That is exactly what we have done to ourselves in this country!

Rhodesia

Back in the 70's Rhodesia obtained its independence from Britain. The same process was used against South Africa was used against Rhodesia to get whitey out- no foreign investment or trade. What happened? Well, you've just seen the result. It's sad....very sad.

REALLY

They will make a buck however......Times are not hard enough ,YET

dugg ~ see this?

see this comment at digg?:

One gram of gold... 1 ounce = 28ish grams...

Current price of gold ~ $925 US per oz

So that's about $33 per gram... by 10 loaves of bread, that's $3.30 a loaf

Well that sounds about the same as where I live :)

gold is measured in troy ounces (31.1ish grams)

not to be a stickler but:

1 troy ounce of gold = 31.1 grams
Current price of gold = ~$925 per troy oz
@ Current price = ~$30 per gram
@ 3rd world Zimbabwe market 1 gram = 10 loaves of bread
@ 3rd world Zimbabwe market that's $3.00 a loaf of bread

These are the same people…

… who voted in Mugabe and thought was a wonderful idea to kill all the white farmers and confiscate their land. So, why aren't they growing their own food? Because they are all as dumb as a doorknob and big time socialists. They created their own mess, now they must live with it. just to think, that Zimbabwe used to be the bread basket of Africa and had a booming economy. This is what happens when the producers are destroyed by the takers. I feel no pity.

Yes.

They make their bed; they lie in it.

When they were killing or driving out the white farmers, we knew what exactly what would happen. And it has. If someone did try to grow a food garden, the produce would be stolen, if the garden even got that far. That's pretty much sub-Saharan Africa in a nutshell.

A white American Protestant missionary who used to live in the Ivory Coast related to me that a Christian black man was given a loan to start a chicken business, which he did. A neighbor was jealous of his good fortune, and killed the chickens. The man was given another loan, and again he bought chickens. He had to go out of town for two weeks, so he trained and hired someone to care for his chicken flock while he was gone. When he returned, the chickens were dead. The employee was too lazy to give the chickens their medicine, like he was supposed to. I could go on and on with these stories....

The people of Zimbabwe are not capable of self-government. Voting does them no good at all. The elected leaders they get are a true reflection of themselves. Sound familiar?

P.S. None of this has anything to do with a person's color. It has everything to do with their religious heritage. Europe (and their descendants in North America) have a 1,500 year old Christian heritage, and Africa does not, but they'll get there.

and we here in the US are

and we here in the US are doing the same thing..

sure, blame the victim

what terrible logic.

Victim of what exactly?

They are socialst dullards.

and what are we in this

and what are we in this country.. we are just on a larger scale.. soon our economy will look just like theirs.

Hey McCain-----┌П┐(◣_◢)┌П┐

ok, then by that logic

then since the majority of us voted for bush, gore, mccain, obama, then we deserve this, too.

Very true.

A few people didn't vote for them, but we are all covenantally bound together.
In other words, we're all in this together, and we get what we deserve, as a people.

You may be as pure as the driven snow, but tidal waves don't discriminate. Ron Paul doesn't deserve to have bad things happen to him, but if the grocery stores in Lake Jackson go empty, it will affect him, too, in one way or another.

Us? WE voted for Bush, Gore, McCain & Obama?

Do you have a mouse in your pocket? Because you sure aren't talking about me or 95% of the folks on DP. Yes, all the idiots that voted for these ass clowns deserve everything they get. Here is the perfect example of people thinking they should just get free stuff supplied from the producers:

Trying to tell us that people like this don't deserve to be standing in a bread line the rest of their lives?

and what about

and what about the zimbabwe people that did not support magabe?

I'm with troy on this one.

I'm with troy on this one. You cant blame them. Plus the voting was probably rigged anyway.

I can't decide

I can't decide on what would lead people to say these things. Is it a hostility towards blacks, a phobia of the ignorant, or just frustration about the whole thing in general? i hope that these members do not suffer from the same narcissistic mental disorder that the federal reserve bankers suffer from.

Don't Buy Gold

Don't buy silver.

Put all your trust in paper dollars, Barack Obama, Robert Mugabe, and John Maynard Keynes and you will be as free and prosperous as the hapless victims in Zimbabwe.

Breaking News -- July 2, 2005: The Zimbabwe government has ordered confiscation of civilian firearms.

"Zimbabwe police have ordered all civilians to surrender firearms in what insiders said was a precautionary measure in a charged country after the government demolished thousands of homes and informal businesses in a controversial urban clean-up exercise.

"Police at the weekend said they were revoking licences for all automatic rifles and some types of pistols and said civilians owning such weapons had until today to surrender them.

"The law enforcement agency did not give reasons for the action but warned Zimbabweans that they could be prosecuted for failing to hand in their guns."

This is no trivial matter. On June 7, 2005, the International Association of Genocide Scholars published a warning about the looming danger of mass murder by government in Zimbabwe.

Notice that the genocide scholars do see the danger -- but they fail to point out that "gun control" with follow-up gun confiscation are two key elements to making the Zimbabwe persecution and genocide possible.

Unbelievable

MMJ. This is insane. They are becoming defenseless slaves. They simply dig for gold for survival. Their whole life is to fulfill the gold demand.

troy its called work..

troy its called work.. wether you dig for gold or build a house or do whatever, its called work.. nothing wrong with that. We in this country are going to be doing the same thing. we have a sm,all amount of time to prepare.. the people in Zimbabwe did not.. now you see what can happen, buy some gold, buy some silver, get some storage food. nonhybrid seeds.. then when things blow up you can survive with less hardship then these people. do not thinknthat what they are going through cannot happen here.

When Money Dies

I read a book called "When Money Dies." It was an excellent account of the Weimar Republic and its financial crisis. It was made clear throughout the book that those with the gold and silver and food were the ones who got through it. The farmers made it because they had the food but those with the gold and silver were the only ones who could buy it or anything else. So, the farmers could barter for anything they needed because they had the food but they also took gold and silver. The quotes from the book from people that lived through it said this over and over.

Dugg, but every time

I see this video, I am reminded of 'Wildman Steve' who J.A.H. mentioned in the "Grocery Shopping" in your backyard thread.
The poor Zimbabweans are shown breaking their backsides panning for gold, all the while being surrounded with lush, green vegetation
http://www.wildmanstevebrill.com/
Perhaps someone could make a digg for the 'Wildman' since I don't seem to be able to post there.
