Liberty Restoration Project in Kansas City Responds to the MIAC Militia Report
MISSOURI LIBERTY GROUP RESPONDS TO MIAC MILITIA REPORT
The Liberty Restoration Project (www.libertyrestorationproject.org), a Kansas City-based political education organization has begun to implement a strategy in response to a Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) Strategic Report on the "Modern Militia Movement". The report, released February 20th, suggests that bumper stickers and publications showing support for Ron Paul, the Libertarian Party, the Campaign for Liberty, and other segments of the Freedom Movement may be “political paraphernalia” used by members of radical militant groups. The report also considers anti-abortion signage, documentaries such as Freedom to Fascism, the Gadsden Flag, and signage critical of the Federal Reserve Bank to be “propaganda” and possible indications of paramilitary extremism.
In response to the high volume of questions and responses after the memorandum was released by an unnamed law enforcement officer, Lieutenant John Hotz of the Missouri State Highway Patrol suggests that the report is being misinterpreted and “Troopers have been shot by members of groups, so it’s our job to let law enforcement officers know what the trends are in the modern militia movement”. While it may be true that it was poorly written and benign in nature, and it may also be true, in a coincidental sense, that members of paramilitary groups are attracted to libertarian political views, the document opens the possibility of political profiling. Why should anyone be afraid of displaying a bumper sticker for fear of profiling? This is not an overreaction to say the least.
Perhaps most egregious of all, the MIAC (a Department of Homeland Security Fusion Center) does not differentiate between a militia, which is Constitutional and exists in many states, and paramilitary groups. Paramilitary authoritarian groups such as the Christian Identity and White Nationalists are listed as “ideologies” of the militia and lumped in with them are “Tax Resistors” and “Anti-Immigration” activists. The intent of the authors of the document could be simply misled and driven by mainstream Republican/Democrat thinking as being “normal”. But, the suggestion that criticism of government policy, a political philosophy outside of mainstream party noise, and liberal activism is akin to terrorism must be revealed and abolished in its earliest stages. The Liberty Restoration Project is demanding a retraction by the Governor as the Chief Executive in title on the report itself and an apology from the MIAC.
The Liberty Restoration Project (LRP) has announced a five-part strategy to face the implications of the MIAC report:
SUNSHINE/FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUESTS: On Monday, March 16th, requests for documents, emails, publications and multimedia used as sources for the MIAC Report were made under the Sunshine Law in Missouri by members of LRP. These requests will be hand-delivered to Governor Nixon, the State Highway Patrol, the Missouri Office of Homeland Security, and the Department of Public Safety. Videos will be posted as soon as possible.
THE MISSOURI LEGISLATURE: On Wednesday, March 18th an email blast and phone bank campaign will be launched to Missouri legislative representatives to make them aware of the Sunshine Law requests and to provide the MIAC information and to ask for an investigation. Once the State Legislature is back in session (March 23rd), representatives of LRP, Campaign for Liberty, and other participants in the Freedom Movement will lobby legislators in person in Jefferson City. If you would like to help phone bank, contact info@libertyrestorationproject.org . LRP will be posting a phone script and sample letters you can use to send to Missouri representatives and the Governor. As always, please be polite and professional.
MONEY TALKS: Working with Restore the Republic, Kansas City activists will begin strategic communication with the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and the Missouri Tourism Council. They will be notifying them of the intent to deter tourism and travel to Missouri until a retraction is made by Governor Nixon.
PUBLIC RELATIONS: Members of the Liberty Restoration Project will be releasing Letters to the Editor and Opinion Articles once the Governor and other agencies have had three days to reply to the Sunshine requests. The editorials will be sent to all newsprint and news media in Missouri. Samples of these works will also be available at the LRP website for work in your state.
***JUST ANNOUNCED***: Executive Director of LRP, Catherine Bleish, will be interviewing Chuck Baldwin at 12 Noon Central this Thursday as a co-host on the Jason Littlejohn radio show on KCXL (1140/1160AM) in Kansas City. www.kcxl.com
A CALL TO JOIN US AND CONTINUE THE WORK: We in the Freedom Movement must continue the message. We have nothing to hide and nothing to fear – it is the ones who wrote the MIAC Report that fear the Freedom Message. The Campaign for Liberty Regional Conference must sell out and get media attention. And the Kansas City Monopoly March (End the FED II) on April 25th could be the biggest in the nation! It is, after all, the "Belly of the Beast" as you most likely send your tax returns to Kansas City to a building we will be marching in front of. Please show your support by volunteering to phone bank, donating, checking with officials in your state to make sure similar documents do not exist, or just send along a letter of encouragement.

Tourism boycott unfair
The whole reason I became politically active as a Libertarian is because I finally had enough of paying the price for the actions of others. Time after time laws were passed to ban or tax in response to the bad behavior of some, at the expense of the responsible.
So when I see arm-twisting such as proposed against the tourism industry, I can't support it. The tourism industry and all the tourist-related employees are already having a hard time and none of this is their fault.
Leave this type of tactic to those less principled.
I have no objection to enlisting their support based on the obvious bad press that results when their state police suggest that certain tourists will be pre-judged by their bumper stickers.

Thanks for the input
Actually, that part of the plan I was not necessarily in agreement with. But, you should know that the idea was focused primarily on the Campaign For Liberty regional conference in St. Louis. (Since it is on a border, people can stay in Illinois). The idea was to fight with money somehow and it was the most immediate thing. It may not work, but then again with the right kind of media, it just might.
I can understand your philosophical objections and I appreciate that. However, you also cannot let the businesses and the "other" citizens go blameless. They've had a choice for a couple decades now and they will be suckered into treating us as domestic terrorists if we don't do anything we can.
Here are lyrics to a song from a musician I like, David Rovics, somewhat appropriate:
"Did you vote for a lesser evil?
And think it's all a shame.
Did you think that this alone
Could take away the blame?
How far is it from here to Neuremburgh?"

Kansas City is an epicenter for the NAFTA highway.
Further, it is a "hub" for the NAFTA highway and some time ago that lands have been manipulated, purchased or leased and part of the bribery going on with local officials, including the governor.

------------------------------------------
Dear News org.,
MAIS is the Federal "Fusion" Center of Homeland Security in Missouri created by the 911 Commission Act of 2007.
This Concerns: The recent Missouri Information Analysis Center Strategic (MAIS) Report
The report on Friday last week, entitled “The Modern Militia Movement” was distributed to law enforcement officials throughout Missouri.
It contains information on radical militant groups and according to Lt. Hotz at the MIAC, was intended to
“let law enforcement officers know what the trends are in the modern militia movement .”
The MAIS report, specifically profiles valid nationwide political organizations as militant.
It specifically invokes, by name, the 3 2008 Presidential Candidates: Bob Barr, Charles Baldwin, and Ron Paul.
It profiles those that associated with these 2008 campaigns and organizations, as potential domestic terror watchlist targets.
It is criminal to malign these men, women and families and make them targets of prejudice as well as instilling fear in
these Law enforcement personel; local police, with whom they live, work and depend on as public servants.
This is absolutely inexcusable.
Today an investigation has already launched with the filing of "Sunshine Law" demand for documents
pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 610, RSMo;
with 3 separate Missouri State departments.
A larger, vocal, and coordinated effort by several National organizations of the Campaigns
has already gotten underway confronting and aprising State legislators and demanding a state investigation.
The demand will be to hold the MAIS accountable and punish those personally responsible for the commission of the act,
with a retraction of the "policy" and public apology.
Legislators will be meeting a swarm of protest and lobbying effort on the legislature steps,
and a demand for investigation as they return to session in this week in Jefferson City.
I am asking that you cover and investigate this story as well.
Thank you,
I'd contribute to something
I'd contribute to something of this nature. How about some signs spread around:

Or maybe bumper sticker every car in a ten block radius?
Obama's Mandatory Militia is Coming!

We should organize to buy up
We should organize to buy up some billboard space around the office of wherever this Ron Paul/Libertarian terrorist memo (or whatever) to police originated from. Preferably, at least one billboard would face their office and they would see it through their windows and as they enter/exit the building all day long.

Missouri, let's get tough
If MIAC is a state agency lets disband it, If its a Federal agency lets kick them out and all other unconstitutional federal government agencies out of the state. Remember HCR 13 reclaiming our state sovereignty.
It is both, in reality
Check out their website. They are a State agency, but set up as a "fusion center" with federal agencies. It is a conglomeration of all state law enforcement and emergency management with federal agencies and even the military. But, the document was printed by the State Highway Patrol - the whole reason for the Sunshine Requests was to discover where the information came from as there are so many federal agencies involved.

It's not a state or federal agency. It's one of those private
companies that is contracted by the government, with our tax money I'm sure.

I'm not sure I like some of the attitude in this release.
While being very self-righteous about having "our" rights infringed, the authors of this release don't seem to have any hesitation to smear other groups in the name of Political Correctness.
To wit:
"Vile paramilitary groups such as the Christian Identity and White Nationalists are listed as “ideologies” of the militia and lumped in with them are “Tax Resistors” and “Anti-Immigration” activists."
So, apparently, anybody in the above listed groups deserve to be slandered and targeted, regardless of whether they are law-abiding, just because of what they think? What if there are perfectly law abiding "Anti-Immigration activists", or principled law abiding "Tax Resistors" or law abiding people observing the "Christian Identity" religion, or "White Nationalists"?
Are they "terrorists"?
Just because a group isn't popular with the PC crowd, doesn't make them "terrorists". Or do we just think they are "icky"? Are you sure that you want to make any group that some people think are "icky" labeled as "terrorists"? Isn't that exactly why this MIAC document came to be?
I'm afraid that the people authoring this release are of the same ilk as those they are showing indignation against. Except it all comes down to "who's ox is being gored", doesn't it?
I think these people need to take a good look at themselves in the mirror. They might find themselves wearing MIAC uniforms in the future, as long as they aren't in the crosshairs themselves, but only the ones that they deem as "vile".
Remember this, what can be done to the most marginalized person or group, can be done to YOU. If you support PC attacks on any group or person because of what they think, and not based solely on any criminal acts that they have individually perpetrated, you are not on the side of freedom, but a member of the "Thought Police".
Think about it.
This is why we have protections under law for people who aren't popular, but haven't committed crimes. It's called the Rule of Law in a Republic, with inherent protections of the rights of the minority.
Whoever wrote that release for the LRP has a helluva lot to learn about what "liberty" is.
"With Liberty and Justice for ALL".
I will answer EDITED (A little reactive after a long day)
"What if there are perfectly law abiding "Anti-Immigration activists", or principled law abiding "Tax Resistors""
This is not a true representation. The blog entry was stating that these two groups should not be considered as having the same ideaology as the white-christian-supremacist groups. I don't think you can argue with that.
"law abiding people observing the "Christian Identity" religion, or "White Nationalists"?
Are they "terrorists"?"
That, I'm sorry to say, is an outright lie. The article never claims they are terrorists, just that they are mistakenly considered to have the "ideology" of the militia movement. And, as above, a very different ideology to the others.
"Just because a group isn't popular with the PC crowd, doesn't make them "terrorists". Or do we just think they are "icky"? Are you sure that you want to make any group that some people think are "icky" labeled as "terrorists"? Isn't that exactly why this MIAC document came to be?"
You are creating a strawman - I did not claim they were terrorists. No one wants them rounded up and put into camps. You are having a very emotional reaction to something that just simply isn't there.
"Remember this, what can be done to the most marginalized person or group, can be done to YOU. If you support PC attacks on any group or person because of what they think, and not based solely on any criminal acts that they have individually perpetrated, you are not on the side of freedom, but a member of the "Thought Police"."
Calling an ideology "vile" is actually the opposite of politically correct. Furthermore, that is my opinion of their ideology. So, aren't you trying to "make" me be PC and treat everyone as equally credible? That is PC in my view. They hold an ideology of force to cause change and hatred and INequality - opposite of the Constitution and a conservative/Ron Paul viewpoint. Perhaps the word choice was poor and I probably should have read it one more time, but I don't want them part of our movement, at our rallies, or passing out our literature. It is those groups that give the resource material and credibility for the intelligence agencies to have this view of us. I never said the group could not be a group, or be allowed to assemble, or should have weapons taken away, or anything of the sort. And, contrary to your false accusations, I never called them terrorists.
"Remember this, what can be done to the most marginalized person or group, can be done to YOU"
They (the white-christian-supremacists) are not part of my group - that was the whole point of bringing up that fact that they should not be included in the same list as others in the document in question. If I am not mistaken, isn't being PC "giving everyone a chance" and being afraid to insult anyone? That's the common definition.
"This is why we have protections under law for people who aren't popular, but haven't committed crimes. It's called the Rule of Law in a Republic, with inherent protections of the rights of the minority."
This is a totally unfounded charge. Nowhere did I say someone in these movements doesn't deserve protection or should be tossed in jail without committing crimes. Also, the laws are supposed to protect the individual, not the minority.

I took at as..
tax protesters and anti-immigration activists being lumped in with the other groups, which they should not be. Tax protesters and anti immigrations protesters should not be considered on the same plane as the two other groups.
I may have misinterpreted – but that is how I read it.

Liberty = Responsibility
Liberty = Responsibility
You are correct
If read correctly, it is saying that the white christian supremacy groups are lumped together with others who do not fit that description, so the document is misleading.

"We are the inheritors of the American Enlightenment, which tells us that Individual Liberty always trumps collectivism in all forms."
I see.
So, it's okay for Christian Identity people and White Nationalists to be persecuted, targeted, and profiled, and perhaps even rounded-up by the government as "terrorists" for what they think, regardless of whether any crime is committed, solely because of political correctness administered by Thought Police?
Exactly what we wouldn't want done to us, because it's unconstitutional to do it against us. But apparently you seem to think that it's okay to do it to them. Right?
Because they are "icky", right?
And we all know that the Constitution doesn't apply to those that we think are "icky". Right?

Thanks Liberty_Belle.
I do think that they should re-word it.
However I've seen all I need to see, to know where the author of this piece is coming from.
I certainly hope that the other members are not of the same frame of mind.
Because it's thinking like that author demonstrated, which got us into this very predicament, in which we find ourselves right now.
This author doesn't want liberty.
He just wants to pick and choose what innocent people he wants to turn the power of government loose upon, because of his personal whims, and not the rule of law.
This author is a threat to liberty, not an advocate.
I reworded it.
I was a little reactive in my other reply - but I don't think I was unjustified. I can see your point, so I did change it. I do want liberty, but individual liberty and not the collectivist authoritarianism of the two groups mentioned. I didn't mention turning anyone over to the government - and I never said a group should be considered terrorists or even stopped from doing what they do. You said that, casting a strawman. Saying I am a threat to liberty after all I have done over the last couple of years is a little overboard I think. I am free to have opinions, and especially of groups with an opposing philosophy.
But, I changed it - hopefully it is more to your liking. I was hoping to maintain the difference between the supremacy groups and liberty groups who are anti-tax, etc...

Jefferson, I support the effort.
Of course I want the demonizations to stop.
But, we need to stop stepping into the traps, which, like this one here, would show us to be no better than the people we criticize..
People need to pay attention to what they are saying and what they are doing.
You're right.
I was just knee jerk reacting, and going to the sound of the gunfire.
I'm pretty upset I have not heard more from the RP camp.

As far as I've been able to glean,
there is probably going to be a coordinated statement between RP, Baldwin, and Barr, coming out as soon as they can get it together.
At least, that's the impression that I've gotten from what I've read, which is admittedly very scattered.
I do think it should be released soon, so that we can capture the moment.
Well said..
