Dept of Defense orders used brass to be destroyed??

Don't know if it is true, y'all help me find some more information please.

http://www.georgia-arms.com/

I found this at Georgia arms and a couple other places.

Any one seen anything from the DOD on this? I tried to find something, but I can't get through all the mumbo-jumbo on the DOD's site.

If it is true, it is another nail in the coffin of the 2nd amendment, we may have the guns but they appear to be doing their best to make sure we have nothing to fire out of them.

Here is another article ODell...

AND SO IT BEGINS...
We all wondered when it was going to start.

When the new administration would make their move against us as gun owners. Oh, everyone got upset about HR45--I'll bet I got over 100 e-mails warning me about this draconian gun registration bill that had been introduced in Congress.

I was really glad to see Tom Gresham, host of "Gun Talk Radio," an editor, writer, television host on "Self-Defense TV," and one of the foremost gun spokespersons, come out and tell everyone to stop worrying about legislation so absolutely over-the-top--it would never get out of committee.

Tom said save your energy for when we really need it--don't expend it trying to warn everyone in your e-mail list about legislation that would go nowhere.

Now, Tom just interviewed me, and Larry Haynie, owner of Georgia Arms (www.georgia-arms.com), on Gun Talk (www.guntalk.com)--and Tom agrees, now is the time to "...unleash the hounds..." by which he means start e-mailing and writing your senators and congressmen.

Now it has come clear...now we know what they intend to do.

Thirty years ago...

the U.S. Navy threw brass from 5 inch guns over the side, so this is nothing new. That was standard operating procedure on my ship.

That's my money being spent

Why do they get to expend the gov't s ammo when I can't ???Tat was bought with my money...Curb the use
you-no

Time to get the GOA or NRA involved

Contact them to see what they can do.

I can understand the DOD not wanting these being exported.

Our tax dollars paid for this, so Americans should be able to get some benefit from spent DOD brass casings.

Talking about brass

I was in two different Marine artillery regiments, the 11th Marines, in California, and the 12th in Japan. The regimental battalions I belonged to fired 105 mm howitzers shells, using brass. I swear we used enough brass end to end to the moon and back a couple times. I have noticed nowadays they appear not to be brass anymore, more of a steel greenish color.

I have a lifetime (mine) of once used brass in storage, .30 carbine, 30-06, 308, 30-03 British, .223, 7.62x39mm, .38, and 9 mm.

I didn't keep up with the value what it is worth, thanks for the heads up. I better start un-loading it (no pun intended).

Care to sell any?

Sure, all of it, and then some

Contact me.

AT least they are not wasting it, RECYCLE

They want you to only have steel cases so they can be found easily..
No big deal...They will have plenty to spare if it comes to that cenerio...

I really have no idea what you are talking about.

I never know if you are being sarcastic or serious, or even read the OPs.

Thanks for this.

Just got some prepped, and polished, "ready to load" LC once fired 308 brass from www.gsscompetition.com
"Ready to load" I guess depends on how picky you are in your reload process. There is still some carbon left from the primer ignition that needs to be cleaned out, and I like to deburr the flash hole.
Paid like 27 cents a piece for them. It is worth it to me, to not have to chew that military crimp out of them. It is quite hard on the fingers.
This is the first I've heard about the DOD thing. I wish I had more to offer.
I was hoping you might have some resources of where the best cheapest place to get brass and bullets is. We are looking to get into casting, but would like to have some pre made components for now.
Thanks again for sharing this.

I found a place locally to buy things as well, but the bullets are cheaper online a lot of times. Powder and Primer has a hazmat fee on them now so it is cheaper to buy them locally.

Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.

We can still stop this....

Because the Congress has the power to stop it. It could be a "test the waters and see if we sneak it in."

So large number of calls could influence the result--let them know we are still watching.

(Frankly I'm getting tired of calling my Senator -- my weekly "To Do" List: Clean the litterbox; clothes to drycleaner; call congress about legislation XYZ pissing me off ; take out trash---it's THAT routine. But what else can you do when Congress has so much power?)

This is getting bad:

I spent some of the weekend reloading with some friends. We do allot of that and it is getting increasingly difficult to obtain supplies in all areas. I suspect some of it is because of the demand. This just makes it that much worse. I have written my congressman and both senators in hopes that at least one of them will take notice. My senators are worthless when it comes to anything to do with firearms and they have the voting record to prove it. My congressman, (Bartlett) on the other hand, has a reasonably decent record and my hopes are that he will stick his fingers in there somehow. Please write to your reps. and try to turn this around.

unfortunately...true

TRUE

the gov't used to sell old firearms to american citizens. it was beneficial in two ways. the gov't made some money (kept our taxes a little lower) and it kept americans familiar (skill at arms) with the guns that our military uses. clinton did his best to damage that program. instead of making money off these old guns the gov't now has to spend money to destroy them.

this new obama plan to destroy spent shell casings is just as idiotic. instead of turning a profit on this resource we will now have to pay money to destroy it. instead of americans having access to these casings to reload and use we will instead be faced with shortages and high ammo prices. this is gun control the "sneaky way".

I feel bad for all those trombone players :(

To Add Insult to Injury

There's an UNCONFIRMED rumor that the miliary is shipping the spent brass to China...that would be a real insult added to injury.

But for the part that I know, they are reclassifying the spent casings to a higher security / disposal level. It's not going to be resold and will probably be melted down.

There IS a nationwide ammo shortage...

I e-mailed this page off to everyone I knew. Now I will see to our useless Congresscritters. Thanks for the heads-up, ODell!

this does not sound good.

Dont get emotional

We are talking about DoD property. Yes this sucks, but with this Pres and this Congress, this should be construed as nothing but par for the course. These anti-gun critters are going to do everything to make gun owner's lives miserable. What the Gov tells the DoD to do with their brass is one thing. I can handle that, as there was no gurantee (or obligation their part) to make once fired DoD cases available for public purchase to begin with.

Imported ammo will dry up next. You watch...

Whats happening in the commercial ammo and brass market is another thing. Why the commercial market has become so barren is more disconcerting to me. Anyway.....shoulda all thunk ahead. Thats just my .02.

I bet a big chunk of that fired brass comes back to us

In the form of foreign imports. If this is true that could help explain why the foreign supply is drying up as well.

Question who owns the government? Who owns the government property? Think about it hard, they were already selling our own property to us, now they are depriving us of even more of our property. Government doesn't own anything, we the people are supposed to own it. We are supposed to own the government not the government own us.

Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.
