Ron Paul best of Republican hopefuls

Editor:

My attempt to figure out who to vote for in the next presidential race just got easier.

I'm a registered Republican and so have already eliminated the Democratic side. As I watched all of the Republican debates on TV, I noticed that Rudy Giuliani received most of the questions followed by McCain and Mitt Romney. I also noticed that most of the candidates agreed with each other on most of the issues - not much deviation with the answers.

The only exception was Ron Paul. His answers were different from the rest. He liked to quote from the U.S. Constitution. I haven't heard the rest of them do this.

I started checking my own copy of the Constitution and guess what? The things he was saying were true. We are not to spend beyond our means of backing up our currency. Thanks to Nixon in 1972 we went off the gold standard.

We are not to "donate" or even give our money from U.S. taxpayers to other countries for any reason. If private corporations or private people want to contribute, go for it. By the way, our dollar is dwindling fast in the world economy. What do you expect, though, when it's nothing but ink and paper backed up by nothing.

Anyway, I also noticed that Ron Paul has won most of the debates. Probably not because the media isn't pushing him like their more famous faces that everyone knows. Ron Paul is a 12-term congressman from Texas and has one of the most consistent voting records in Congress. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the '60s as a flight surgeon. He went on to become an obstetrician and has delivered some 4,000 babies. Just recently he set the GOP record for a one-day fund raising effort of over $4 million from 35,000 separate contributors.

I think we should eliminate Giuliani from consideration, especially since his one-time right-hand man, Bernard Kerik, was just indicted for tax evasion and corruption. If you think Giuliani didn't know about Kerik's dealings, you are naive. But I suppose Giuliani has one supporter, evangelist Pat Robertson from the 700 Club. Truly strange bedfellows.

Do your homework and vote for the person who would really help our country out of the mess we're in. Don't just vote for the most popular or charismatic carbon copy of the same old same old.

one little mistake

he is a 10-term congressman not 12.

Very nice!

Can we copy and send to our local paper?

Or at least use your letter as a template?

I have no

problem with that, but it's not my letter. It was written by someone named: Dan M. Smith from Gatlinburg

I don't know whether or not copyright laws apply to letters to the editor. Or if permission needs to be obtained from the author before it can be reprinted.

If you know the answer, please post it here. I'd like to know for future reference. Thank you
