WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The leader of the nation's largest veterans organization says he is "deeply disappointed and concerned" after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.
"It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan," said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. "He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it."

Is It Me?
Does it seem to anyone else that the NWO and their puppets like Obama are becoming mad with their own power? Every where I go, and anyone I talk with (including the coolaid drinkers) are beginning to realize something is very wrong. Could this be the begining of the end for them? I was watching Fox (Boston) news this morning and they were talking about Cheney and the CIA, whether laws were broken and if they were should they be proscecuted. You would not have seen this on main stream news a year ago. I was listneing to something Daneil Estulin said, I can't remember where, but he was talking about the Bilderburg meeting, and said inside sources were saying they are getting very nervous because some of them think they went to far, to fast and their plan may be in jeopardy because people are waking up. Just my thoughts.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is considering making veterans use private insurance to pay for treatment of combat and service-related injuries.
The plan would be an about-face on what veterans believe is a long-standing pledge to pay for health care costs that result from their military service.
But in a White House meeting Monday, veterans groups apparently failed to persuade President Barack Obama to take the plan off the table.
"Veterans of all generations agree that this proposal is bad for the country and bad for veterans," said Paul Rieckhoff, executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. "If the president and the OMB (Office of Management and Budget) want to cut costs, they can start at AIG, not the VA."
Under current policy, veterans are responsible for health care costs that are unrelated to their military service. Exceptions in some cases can be made for veterans without private insurance or who are 100 percent disabled.
The president spoke Monday at the Department of Veterans Affairs to commemorate its 20th anniversary and said he hopes to increase funding by $25 billion over the next five years. But he said nothing about the plan to bill private insurers for service-related medical care.
Few details about the plan have been available and a VA spokesman did not provide additional information. But the reaction on Capitol Hill to the idea has been swift and harsh.
"Dead on arrival" is how Democratic Sen. Patty Murray of Washington described the idea. " ... when our troops are injured while serving our country, we should take care of those injuries completely," Murray, a member of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, told a hearing last week.
"I don't think we should nickel and dime them for their care."
In separate comments, Republican Sen. Kit Bond of Missouri said the nation "owes a debt to the veterans who fought and paid for our freedom."
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki said at the hearing where Murray spoke that the plan was "a consideration." He also acknowledged that the VA's proposed budget for next year included it as a way to increase revenue.
But Shinseki told the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee that "a final decision hasn't been made yet."

i'm not sure how you have a volunteer military, who is willing to put their lives on the line for the country, and then you spit in their faces like this. it would seem Obama thinks if you get wounded under a President's orders the President does not have to make sure you are taken care of now. Obama has been heard telling what gratitude our military is owed, and then he does this? where is the gratitude?
it was not that long ago that there was a big uproar over the VA's horrendous treatment of veterans and the very poor quality of care for them. Obama must have Alzheimer's to be able to think that no one will notice or care about this.

There's been more talk of the draft in the MSM lately. I read an article in the Wall Street Journal recently discussing how 'we' may need it.
This makes me sick. About the ONLY thing this country should be spending more money on is vet health care. I salute you.

In either case, all in the past now. I'm alive, still hookin' n' jabbin, so I don't complain. A lot of my friends and a few of my co-workers don't have that luxury, so I won't bitch. I used the VA just enough to take care of the cost to patch me up; there's guys out there that need it more than me, and I won't take what little resources the VA has away from the guys worse off.
However, I have two very close friends and are permanently disabled from similar combat injuries. If this plan of theirs goes through, it is going to affect my friends greatly. I don't take kindly to that.
It's like when you get the letter asking for your enlistment

They took it out of my taxes. Then gave me a deduction for it. Then counted the deduction as income and taxed me on it. So my $1500 enlistment bonus actually cost me about $500 bucks. I didn't care, I was there to see how it worked--I saw.

Not to outsmart myself -
I have private insurance, and took out a $2,000.00 deductible after whatever Medicare won't pay; thinking the little stuff I'll have the VA do that isn't covered; although there is a $8-15-50 co-pay for me at the VA because, I opted out not to disclose income and net worth.
My question is, hell, whose to say veterans will opt to pay for private health care and just go to the VA ? They can't turn them away ! Well, they are not suppose to anyways. There are cases where they died in the parking lot not admitting them.
If I were to apply today, they would refuse me based on my ability to pay privately, which I do. I'm grandfathered so far. I hardly use the VA or would I. Not that the VA isn't a good 2nd choice, it is.
What's funny, when Obamy was my senator he was a VA care proponent for the couple hundred thousand Illinois veterans one year that were denied promised VA accessibility in Illinois. Never trust your Government or an Ivy League elitist president that never wore the uniform.
BTW, do you think if Obamy was ever drafted to go to Iraq that he wouldn't claim Kenyan or Indonesian citizenship ?
