I find this thread rather telling and sad. By reading the posts and responses here is is clear to me that even ardent Ron Paul supporters do not fully understand the freedoms we have lost in this country.

Do you think getting taxed over 50% of our wealth is free? The minions of kings in the middle ages were freer than us. They only had about 30% of their wealth taken from them.

Have you tried to do any economic activity in the US? Licences, restrictions, permits, visits from swarms of bureaucrats for just about everything! Want to cut someones hair, you need a licence. Want to start a business, you need to pay all sorts of fees, permits and licences. Want to get a job, your papers please. Want to build a building, there is a small mountain of red tape, requirements, and fees to submit to. What about your kid selling lemonade to make a few bucks for a field trip. No way! He would need a state sales tax transaction permit, permits from the food departments, tax forms for income, and OSHA inspections and demands, and on and on!

And for basic freedoms. Want to travel for any distance? You need official papers and licences (to drive or fly a plane). Oh and if you fly, forget about the 4th amendment, you open yourself to whatever searches and siezures the government deems is for your safety. These are not the hallmarks of a society that is free.

What about deciding what you put into your own body? From experimental medicines to recreational drugs, you are a criminal for the heinous act of doing things to yourself, even if you believe they are helpful! Even buying some fancy cigars (Cuban) or certain foods (some fine foreign cheeses are unpasturized, and are illegal to import, buy or sell in the US) have severe criminal penalities connected with them. These are not the hallmarks of a society that is free.

And what about privacy? After 9-11 there is no pretense the government is spying on us, from financial records to phone calls to what we eat.

Unfortunately, we are so far from free, that most have lost the sense of what this is. Just about everything we touch or see has become so heavily regulated, taxed, licenced, mandated, and criminalized is is hard to see or even imagine a truly free world. Unfortunately, Americans wear the chains of government slavery so well most of us continue to falsely believe we are free. Our masters have placed chains on us were so cleverly, they have us believing we are still free! Sure, we continue to enjoy some basic freedoms of speech, religion, travel and economic pursuits. But these pale in comparison to a truly free society. And this is why I support Ron Paul: he stands for liberating us from the chains of government.

Let's stop pretending that we are free. And yes, enjoy your turkey.

We were free, now we are merely watching, 10 Million government, Aunt Bettie's, invite themselves into our lives.

Aunt Betty requires a license for taking a sh$% in the woods.

Soon Aunt Betty, will be calling to see if everything is okay and safe at your home. 'Do you feel safe, is it warm?'

Today, every intersection has at least 4 cameras, a strip mall, a gas station, and a fu$%in restaurant chain.

If we don't get Ron Paul elected and create local movements that will persistently place a check on Aunt Betty, preventing them from invading further into our lives, we might as well do a full blown, Aunt Betty revolt or pack it up and go into the woods and start anew.

It's time. Our economy will soon be seen as the envy of the third world! People will come from all over the world, in awe, of how many half-ass strip malls and restaurant chains we have per square mile.

Anyways, I love all of you for being a part of this movement and Ron Paul for leading it. Thank YOU.

Unfortunately, all Americans could feel much better if personal and government debt was much lower. I think we are finally "turning the corner" on this and the future will be much better for it. Happy Thanksgiving!

Sorry to be pessimistic but I'm a realist.

One note, Thanksgiving is the best holiday--truly American--non-religious, football, family, friends, turkey, pie--doesn't get any more original.

I hope everyone says a prayer for Ron Paul over the holiday and then gets up Friday and thinks about what they can do to get this man elected.

Because we know who to thank for our blessings and know how to number them. Gratitude is the finest antidote to conceit and conceit blinds the mind. Therefore we are free and we are not blinded. With no one to thank how would we make contact with humility? It cannot be. Where humility is there is sight and vision to approach the shrouded mysteries and grace to stumble upon the unexpected waymark. There is always place for thanksgiving in the heart of every human being who has one more breath to draw or one more consideration to ponder. If they be wise to find it.
