House Passes Volunteerism Bill Critics Call Pricey, Forced Service
The bipartisan commission will be tasked with exploring a number of topics, including "whether a workable, fair and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the nation."

The GIVE Act is not new!!
Apparently, this was first introduced in 2007, under the 110th congress!

Here is the link to the HR 1388 that was introduced into THIS congress, and passed by the House. Alex Jones had a story that this Bill was "rubber stamped" by the Senate on March 23rd, but I have not found any evidence that it has passed the Senate...

Senate version
Does anyone know the name/number of the Senate version? Is it the same as the House? I'd like my Senator to know what I'm talking about when I write him. :)
Is History Repeating Itself
I hate to seem like an alarmist, but is history repeating itself?

I am amazed
at the people on various e-mail loops I have sent this information to who see nothing wrong with this bill.
They equate it to Americorps - what's wrong with Americorps? What's wrong with helping out disadvantaged children who have no role models to direct them? Other countries do it, why not ours?
I ask:
Americorps already exists - why the legislation? Money?
Why explore how (logistically, I'm sure) to make it mandatory? Why uniforms? Why elementary school indoctrination? Why campus learning centers? Why electronic monitoring?
I would love to know how well this fares in other countries - has anyone been exposed to this personally?
Volunteering is a matter of conscience, a matter of the heart. When the government directs the heart, the government becomes god. America has always been set apart because her people were led by their morals and conscience not by governmenet mandates.
I shake my head and wonder how people can't see the writing on the wall.

mandatory volunteerism.
mandatory volunteerism = free slave = 1984
Still has to pass the Senate ...
as I understand it. It may just go by way of H.R. 1955, the Thought Crime Bill. It passed the House, but not the Senate. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Kucinich!! WTF?! I thought
Kucinich!! WTF?! I thought that little bastard socialist was at least smarter than this when it came to civil liberties and the police state. Guess I was wrong.
Of course he voted
For it. He's one of them. They're ALL one of them! It started when we gave them absolute power over us. The power of taxation. Then we gave them the power to make the laws, supposedly thru our representitives. How is it possible for a small fraction of just over 500 to voice opinions and laws for millions!???? What did you expect? We have only one option left, and soon we wont have that.
Lol what a rat he is.
Lol what a rat he is.

mandatory state service
See the Constitution Amendment XIII
I have not been duly convicted of any crime where the punishment is
involuntary servitude.
This concept does not exist in the US.
what an oxymoron!
holy crap!
This is a draft in disguise!
This is a draft in disguise! These buggers like to sugar coat bills to make it seem attractive to the public. I've been opposed to this return to slavery ever since I found out about these bills being proposed.
Mandatory service of any
As posters before me have mentioned, mandatory service of any sort would quite literally represent a return to slavery. Any action in which you partake, that isn't a function of your freewill, and one that is enforced by threat of government force, is a form of slavery. I don't care how benign your ambitions, as long as you utilize the threat of force, whether it be against an individual personally or against their property, you are participating in slavery. If I said that you could help clean up a park or spend a week in a cell in my basement, my ambitions to have a litter-free park are negated by the fact that I used physical threats to force you to participate. Obviously that's a crime, and yet our very congress is doing no less by instating this outdated and frankly evil piece of legislation.
What's even more ridiculous is that the very people most in support of this slavery bill are also those who have for years been fighting for increased minimum wage laws and stronger unions in order to "protect" workers from companies that would "exploit" them. If this isn't sickening hypocrisy, then I don't know what is.
Well put!
Yes, and those same people want to slam China and other countries for human rights violations and because people take unsavory jobs in sweatshops and factories by choice.
Did anyone notice The Corporation?
All the language refers to The Corporation has rights to deal with this or to approve that. For example:
‘(d) Awards-
‘(1) IN GENERAL- Using sums appropriated under section 501(a)(1)(C), the Corporation shall provide an award to institutions designated under subsection (c), to be used by the institutions to develop or disseminate service-learning models and best practices regarding service-learning to other institutions of higher education.
‘(2) PLANS- To be eligible to receive funds under this subsection, an institution designated under subsection (c) shall submit a plan to the Corporation describing how the institution intends to use the funds to encourage or assist those students to pursue public service careers in the nonprofit sector or government.
‘(3) ALLOCATION- The Corporation shall determine how the funds appropriated under section 501(a)(1)(C) for a fiscal year will be allocated among the institutions submitting acceptable plans under paragraph (2). In determining the amount of funds to be allocated to such an institution, the Corporation shall consider the number of students at the institution, and the quality and scope of the plan submitted by the institution under paragraph (2) and the institution’s current (as of the date of submission of the plan) strategies to encourage or assist students to pursue public service careers in the nonprofit sector or government.’.
Or
‘(c) Nominations and Designation-
‘(1) NOMINATION-
‘(A) IN GENERAL- A State Commission that receives applications from institutions of higher education under subsection (b) may nominate, for designation under subsection (a), not more than 3 such institutions of higher education, consisting of--
‘(i) not more than one 4-year public institution of higher education;
‘(ii) not more than one 4-year private institution of higher education; and
‘(iii) not more than one 2-year institution of higher education.
‘(B) SUBMISSION- The State Commission shall submit to the Corporation the name and application of each institution nominated by the State Commission under subparagraph (A).
‘(2) DESIGNATION- The Corporation shall designate, under subsection (a), not more than 25 institutions of higher education from among the institutions nominated under paragraph (1). In making the designations, the Corporation shall, if feasible, designate various types of institutions, including institutions from each of the categories of institutions described in clauses (i), (ii), and (iii) of paragraph (1)(A).
This language may sound familiar to some of us. People who have studied the UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) know that this is referring to "The United States of America" 's corporation entity. I just find it blatant that they aren't even declaring this for the Constitutional US and are just dropping all of that altogether - choosing the true Corporation that we really are to be the entity that's joining in contract with the states.
How many other people noticed that?
This is a GREAT find!!
Thanks for sharing, I know the United States is a foreign corporation, incorporated under the DC organic act of 1871.
Thanks

The key people here are the young
that this proposed bill targets, and the parents/grandparents. The immoral authoritarian basis has to be made clear to all; we can't allow the nazis to take any moral high ground with this.
It cannot be allowed to ride the coattails of the duped, dreamy-eyed idealism of the election ObamaCult. This must be seen as obsessive State power and control of the people.
First they took our money, now they want our kids, and the remnants of civil rights left to us. This has to be Obama's downfall. It must be seen by the young as totally uncool, totally against self-expression, self-determination, adventure, freedom, creativity.
We must grab this issue and never give an inch to the idea of turning our whole population into zombie troops of the Empire.
Role call

My rep is going to get an earful.
Thank you for posting the rollcall. I can't believe my rep
voted "aye" on this!!! He is going to hear from me tomorrow and I'm going to tell everyone I know.
Debbie
Mine already did!!
Damn RINO!!
If it had to be done,
it seems the only justifiable need would be to help protect our borders from illegals.
There can never be a justifiable need for slavery.
I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...
I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...
How do we
How do we get rid of these as*holes? We sit and wait for another election?..By then...its going to be way to late...There has to be a way...Between the Constitution..and all the real laws on the books..there has got to be some way.
Anybody....???.....Ideas???....Ones that dont involve a neck tie party
Freedom is another way to God...A corrupt government is a straight way to hell.
I believe in Hope & Change..I Hope the government will Change

Even if another election were upon us, 90+% of elected
representatives are normally returned to office. That doesn't mean that we should give up; only a recognition of the size of the task which lies before us

If enacted this will further
homogenize the youth of this country. Cable TV and its accompanying MTV influence apparently wasn't enough to break down the regional differences most of us grew up with. Just look at the agenda of shows on cable and you will soon understand whats up.
If not us than who?

Do I understand from the above...
that what has passed at this point is merely authorization to STUDY the issue, and that the service itself has NOT been passed??? In other words we still have time to educate and protest this?

yes, but that doesnt' make
yes, but that doesnt' make it constitutional anyway. we can educate all we want but the sheep will start paying attention not when their kids get conscibed, not when their kids get drafted, but when their kids come back home feet first. this is the nature of sheep.
"Hillbilly" Just Became a Good Thing
First thought...They aren't getting my son. Second thought....as much as I have poked fun at hillbillys in my time, today I've decided that I'm quite jealous of them. They have been referred to as uneducated, dirty and poor. The reality is that most of the true "hillbilly" children have no SSN's, and may not have a birth certificate. True "hillbillies" own everything they have, keep their money with them, not in a bank. They have enough to sustain themselves, enough guns and ammo to protect themselves, don't pay taxes, and the gov't doesn't even know that most of them exist. I would say that makes them smart and wealthy. And I'll bet that not one of thier kids will be called out to "volunteer". I never thought I would say this, but, I wish I was a hillbilly.
