Department Of Peace

It was intoduced in 2007 by Dennis Kuccinich. 70 supporters - looks like all Democrats. Never went anywhere.

This bill seems to go hand-in-hand with the GIVE Act (HR 1388) and the SPP (Security and Prosperity Partnership: http://www.spp.gov/). The one word that keeps popping into my mind is GLOBILIZATION.

The following seems like a vague statment that could infringe on one's faith regarding the politically correct tolerance mandate:

SEC. 105. OFFICE OF DOMESTIC PEACE ACTIVITIES.

(3) develop community-based strategies for celebrating diversity and promoting tolerance.

International?

SEC. 106. OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL PEACE ACTIVITIES.

(1) provide for the training and deployment of all Peace Academy graduates and other nonmilitary conflict prevention and peacemaking personnel;

(2) support country and regional conflict prevention and dispute resolution initiatives in countries experiencing social, political, or economic strife;

(3) advocate for the creation of a multinational nonviolent peace force;

(4) provide training for the administration of post-conflict reconstruction and demobilization in war-torn societies; and

(5) provide for the exchanges between individuals of the United States and other nations who are endeavoring to develop domestic and international peace-based initiatives.

And this one is down right Orwellian:

SEC. 110. OFFICE OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND ECONOMIC RIGHTS.

(4) provide trained observers to work with non-governmental organizations for purposes of creating a climate that is conducive to the respect for human rights;

And the cherry on top - look at the price tag!

SEC. 113. AUTHORIZATION OF APPROPRIATIONS.

There is authorized to be appropriated to carry out this Act for a fiscal year beginning after the date of the enactment of this Act $10,000,000,000 for each fiscal year. Of the amounts appropriated pursuant to such authorization, at least 85 percent shall be used for domestic peace programs, including administrative costs associated with such programs.

I guess he doesn't realize that to fund it it would have to initiate the threat of violence that comes along with taxation. So, his desired Department actually violates the principle it is supposed to stand for!
