Singer Lloyd Marcus told the crowd assembled in Lake Eola Park on Saturday that he was going to give them his take on the first days of the Obama administration. Then he shrieked.
That pretty much summed up the mood in the park Saturday afternoon, when more than 4,000 people attended the Orlando Tea Party, a conservative rally aimed at expressing discontent with Washington.
"This is maybe the greatest single gathering of God-fearing patriots in the history of Orlando, Florida," local conservative radio host Bud Hedinger, who emceed the event, told the crowd.
Were any DPer's there?

Take Note: No MSM = No POLICE!
If we keep future protests under the radar and coordinated they won't see it coming.

thanks
for the sign ideas
I was there with family and friends.
It was good to see common people come out. However, it was also an eye opener to how unification with be stifled by, for lack of a better word, "the fringe".
The gathering should have been about the Fed Reserve, Fiat currency, Taxes, Free Markets, and how that is the common thread for enslaving everyone.
To the contrary, I saw:
- Truthers handing out homemade CDs
- Blatant bashing of Obama. (Note to everyone: These problems are not the fault of any one man.)
- Religion was a big requirement to be considered 'conservative'
- Racists and right wing nut jobs who just come out for a party in any decade. Jeez @ the accusatory communist propaganda
- Homosexuality was called out on stage also.
NONE of these things have anything to do with LIBERTY and fighting for sound money and putting the Constitution first. It seems everyone has their personal agenda to broadcast. That's all well and good and you have LIBERTY to do that. However, your LIBERTY will DISAPPEAR if you do not focus on the common threads that bind us all.
Fringe messages do nothing but further split people by allowing liberals to twist your image and your words. Regarding this I should add: Make sure you use proper spelling on your signs. I saw "lier" and "your" for "you're". It is a small detail but it makes us all look stupid, especially when the person is a slob as well.
I thank those who organized the event. I give you respect for doing something I have no time to do in the current financial climate. However, next time we need to begin with a real message and agenda (see Ron Paul), not just "we don't like Obama and the stimulus package".
I did see an awesome display of Gadsen flags though:)
I Was There As Well
This event truly illustrated why conservatism is perceived such a nasty word today. It was basically a typical neo-con GOP Rally from the Bush years masquerading as the liberty movement. The speakers at the rally offered no information whatsoever with regards to the Fed or how we got into this mess. They thanked Rick Santelli, but no mention of Dr. Paul or anyone else. They just kept spouting "We're mad as hell!" as if that were any different from "Hope! Change!"
I took my girlfriend to this event to help get her acquainted with the facts, but all we heard was hooray Palin and that we all need to believe in god to save this country. Really a HUGE turn off at an event that I thought was supposed to be about economic freedom and how the mainstream had lead the country astray. Hell, they even went as far as pushing anti-abortion. Not the place!
I was skeptical about the "astroturfing" claims, but now I am sure of it. We must be extremely vigilant. Do not let them hijack this!
What I took home from the event: We have a LOT of work to do, my friends.
I agree on many of those issues:
Educate them, don't call them out on other things; I think the common thread to all these protests is: WE ARE SICK OF SOCIALISM/THE FEDERAL GOV Infringing upon our Constitutional rights!
We do need to focus on the issues you pointed out (but myself included) agree with many of the traditional conservative issues you pointed out: big think We need to educate them. Oh and I have no problem with liberals comming to these rallies either, as long as they are fed up with socialism and starting to see that the Admin is taking things too far!
Jeremy
the fringe
I have a feeling everyone there had a right to be there. No we all don't agree on everything. I do think we all agree that the country is going down the toilet. Stop worrying about "the fringe" and be elated or overjoyed that that many diversified people came together as a united force... a very large force. (being judgemental of others' spelling or their appearing to you to be slobs doesn't make you sound too united) I don't think we can pick and choose people that "get" to fight to get this country back!
I was really impressed with the pictures!
Thanks for the frontline
Thanks for the frontline report. You make some great points. Is there anything that can be done to influence these events and reach out to these potential newcomers to the r3volution?
In all seriousness.
Call out the people that make unification look bad. We have to set rules. Follow the C4L agenda for example. Don't bring anything other than that message to the gathering. Be firm, assertive, well dressed, and have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
just kidding....;)
Unify by keeping your crazy friends inline with the messages of Liberty and financial freedom. You can't begin to fight without a common goal....The Constitution and sound money.
yes indeed
You must pass a fashion police checkpoint before showing up to a protest. Just forget that you are going to fight for freedom, just dress well and you will be permitted to attend.
Yes the constitution is very important to all of us but we all have other things we are upset about. But when someone decides who should or should not attend a protest or what they should be fighting for we are right back to the government we have now. Kind of like free speech zones.
As for the c4l, I am still not convinced they are the ultimate good. (I am just happy you are in a position that allows you to look down your nose at others in the fight for freedom and truth)
I'm in Florida
Thanks Orlando.
