FT: Ron Paul Predicts 15 Year Depression

Yields on government bonds worldwide have been falling fast over the past few months and in the UK, the commencement of “quantitative easing” this month sent bond prices soaring.
But the credibility of both western governments and their currencies is waning, and has been ever since the gold standard was abandoned in 1971, says Mr Paul. And that means even “safe” investments are far from safe, he claims.
“People will start to abandon the dollar as current and past economic policies create a steep rise in interest rates,” Mr Paul says.
“If you are in Treasuries, you will need to be watchful and nimble to time your escape.”
Unfortunately, cashing out will not protect the value of investments, he insists, because “fiat” currencies will all decline over the coming years as measures to try to haul the world economy out of recession fail. “The current stimulus measures are making things a lot worse,” says Mr Paul.
“The US government just won’t allow the correction the economy needs.” He cites the mini-depression of 1921, which lasted just a year largely because insolvent companies were allowed to fail. “No one remembers that one. They’ll remember this one, because it will last 15 years.”

Our old friend Congressman Ron Paul says we’re headed into a 15-year depression.
He’s probably right. In the old days, “panics” and “depressions” ended fairly quickly…at least unemployment tended to be short-term. There were no elaborate social welfare systems then. No unemployment compensation. No food stamps or “independence” cards. People had to make do.
So, when a depression hit, wages fell quickly and people got back to work. They earned less, but the whole economy would adjust, with lower prices for everything.

3 E's: Might be much worse
Chris Martenson talks about the three E's: economy, energy, and environment. He says the same things about the Fed and gold standard that RP says. What he says about energy is that we are approaching the point where we will have to expend more energy to extract fossil fuels than we get by extracting them. (Makes peak oil academic.) Basically the same thing about environmental resources.

Even if yes, just how fair a system do you suppose this current batch of sleazebag bankers ... from Rothschild down ... would institute?
*Back in the 70's - 80's during that "oil crisis," when the Arabs were feeling filthy rich and gold was booming, Arabs were buying gold by the trainload. Then, the oilmen-bankers crashed the price of oil (from $50 a barrel down to $11, I think), and gold (which had been keeping pace with oil) toppled from $750-$800/oz. all the way down to $250/oz. The same group that sold Arabs the gold for $800/oz. bought it back for $250.
Any system can be corrupted, through capitalism most especially.

...gold and silver are traded through out the World as currency. Check any bank and ask them if their Gold and Silver is traded over their currency or a commidity desk. You will hear the answer of currency every time.

Anything is possible...but do we really want that...
As you export financial power than regular people have less of their destiny they can control. The tragedy of a One World Currency, even if based on the gold/silver standard is that it can be manipulated by a chosen few and they can remove us from that standard at their whim.
