That is a way to solve problems from misuse of an invention.
Eliminate it. Goes for any invention that can be misused.
Cars and airplanes crash so lets get rid of them. Typewriters have been used to write letters involved in fraud, so get rid of typewriters. I bet everything that has ever been invented has been misused at one time or another, so every invention must be eliminated.
I can write no more as the alphabet has been eliminated.

What will you do?
when they shut off the internet? If the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee is afraid of the potential of internet communication to foster dissent or enable resistance to gov't plans, then how much longer can we depend on it for our use? Can we communicate without it? Do you know who your neighbors are? Can you count on them in times of stress? How freaked out will your neighbors be without it? Do you know how to locate the Ron Paul supporter nearest you? Can you reach that person by means other than driving? If the internet is down do you think they will let us use the roads? Do you have access to a horse and the off road trails to get anywhere? If the internet goes down will the telephones work? Will they be restricted to "Official Use Only"? Can we fight the power if we can't find each other? Are you an "army of one"?

Freedom of information is a fearsome, awesome, problem? Rockefeller might as well be working for the Nazis, Soviets, or any other Anti-American group.
The truth is that all information that needs to be protected is. 3 million "attacks" means nothing when they were all unsuccessful and aimed at servers that contained nothing critical. Nothing sensitive is put on a server that has web access. Give me a break!

Truth is, no hacker is going to kill anybody and IT systems and admins are supposed to know their own threat levels and have plans for a disaster recovery such as a major cyber attack. This is some nifty fearmongering by the most pathetic crop of politicians in the world.
