Missouri MIAC Action - Good day in Jefferson City!

Thank you to everyone who has sent ideas, good wishes, and funds to the Liberty Restoration Project to help us in this fight. Today over 18 Liberty Lovers went to Jefferson city from as far as Kansas City and St. Louis to let our legislators know the implications of the MIAC report and to get our side of the issue out to them in writing. We gave all 201 legislators a copy of the original MIAC Report, a bullet cover sheet of our concerns, a list of media stories and reports about the issue, a detailed counterpoint to the biggest 9 issues in the document, a C4L flyer, and everyone got a professional copy of "America: Freedom to Fascism" (we thought we should give them the opportunity to see this evil and contraband film). We also handed out about 40 copies of the documentary "The Gig is Up" and 80 ACLU responses about the fusion centers.

Unfortunately, not many legislators were in because they are coming off a break and didn't start session until 4:00. A few spoke to us if they were there and we had MANY positive responses from staff. We also asked the Representatives to support HCR13 (the 10th Amendment Bill).

Then, it was on to the Governor! For those who don't know, the LRP issued Sunshine Law requests to the Governor, SEMA, and the Highway Patrol. The responses, or reasons for lack of documents, was required BY LAW by Thursday. As of now, no response from anyone. So, with a very full foyer full of staff, DHS, security and about 20 of us, we let them know that was unacceptable and that he is responsible to us, and not the federal intelligence agencies. It was pretty interesting (some of them were very nervous, but for no reason of course). A secretary who was rude to us last week when we delivered the Sunshine Law paperwork was there, and rude, again. After we left the office, she actually had a police officer escort her past us because apparently we are such violent people in our suits and stapled paperwork. :) Hopefully videos will be posted soon. (Catherine, our executive director was awesome!)

Then, some of us had to go home, but half of the group went on to the Highway Patrol Headquarters to ask them why they haven't responded to our Sunshine Law request. (They said they would reply in time - obviously not). I haven't heard how that went yet, so I will update as soon as I can.

We had a report that the ACLU is filing a complaint against Governor Nixon for targeting political enemies and misuse of Homeland Security resources. More on that when we confirm. I know there are some poeple who don't like the ACLU, but I actually worked with them on a couple freedom issues in the past and they have done some great things for individual civil rights. They may not always do things you like, but I think they are fair, no matter the politics. (For instance, they have won more cases for religious expression than civil rights protection of non-religious people) That's neither here nor there, but I personally welcome them and the media attention they will gain that we would not be able to tap into.

Thanks again everyone! They were all reminded that this is a national issue, but Missouri is in the spotlight.
