Michele Bachmann: Constitutional scholar
When Michelle Bachmann speaks, people don't just listen, they gape. The Republican from Minnesota, famous for, among other things, bemoaning Barack Obama's "final leap to socialism" and demanding McCarthy-esque witch hunts of "anti-American" politicians," got her five minutes of time during Tuesday's House Financial Services committee hearing on AIG, and she did not disappoint.
Glowering at Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner as if she was Thulsa Doom preparing to behead Conan the Barbarian, Bachmann posed her question.
BACHMANN: What provision in the Constitution could you point to to give authority for the actions that have been taken by the Treasury since March of '08?
GEITHNER: Oh, well, the -- the Congress legislated in the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act a range of very important new authorities.
BACHMANN: Sir, in the Constitution. What -- what in the Constitution could you point to to -- to give authority to the Treasury for the extraordinary actions that have been taken?
GEITHNER: Every action that the Treasury and the Fed and the FDIC is -- is -- has been using authority granted by this body -- by this body, the Congress.
BACHMANN: And by -- in the Constitution, what could you point to?
GEITHNER: Under the laws of the land, of course.
Perhaps this is unkind, but Bachmann didn't seem to appreciate that Congress' power to legislate is in the Constitution.
Bachmann followed this line of questioning with a reference to a Wall Street Journal article, reporting China's call "for the creation of a new currency to eventually replace the dollar as the world's standard."
I'm wondering would you categorically renounce the United States moving away from the dollar and going to a global currency as suggested this morning by China and also by Russia, Mr. Secretary?
Geithner: Yes.
Bernanke: Yes.
The look of disgust on Bernanke's face? Priceless. You could practically hear him thinking: "I've got an economy on the edge of disaster to save, and I have to spend precious moments of my time answering questions from Michelle Bachmann?"

I believe that Ms. Bachmann,
I believe that Ms. Bachmann, much like Dr. Paul, realizes that most of the legislation coming out of the Congress does not follow the Constitution. Look at the Fed, there is nothing constitutional about central banking. Similarly, there is nothing constitutional about recent legislation that has come out of the Congress to deal with this financial crisis. I think that her intent was to expose both Geithner's and Bernanke's ignorance of and/or contempt for the Constitution of the United States. Geithner was exposed as being clearly ignorant and, as you pointed out, Bernanke's contempt was exposed.

If what Bernanke says is true about the Fed doing only what
Congress has authorized them to do, and that they've "never lost a dime" doing it, then they won't mind being audited, will they?
. They've already bailed out B of A and other banks and they didn't seem to be concerned about their "stigma".

March 24, between 11:00AM and noon EDT when he and Bernanke categorically rejected the idea of a new world currency. I read the first report of his warming to China's currency notion early the morning of March 25. How can anyone anywhere trust one word that comes out of that lying bankster's mouth?

I Just Called Her Washington Office
(202-225-2331) to thank her. I mentioned I saw her grilling Geithner & Bernanke on YouTube at the AIG hearings on tuesday and had to call to say "thank you". Her staff was very friendly and said they loved "these kinds of calls". Apparently they've been getting a few of them :-)
Perhaps a few more phone calls of encouragement are in order?

I love this woman. She used her time - and tried to get more - to fight for transparency from Geitner and Bernanke. As usual, they tried to slip out, but she lobbed fastballs and aimed at their heads.
I never heard or saw her before, but wow.
Couple things
They mentioned the loans have been collateralized with assets but they didn't say they were bogus assets.
The Constitutional authority is Congress makes the laws and when Congress passed these laws that went against the Constitution Congress changed the rules. For the checks and balances to work - the President should have vetoed the unconstitutional bills and the courts should have ruled them unconstitutional. Yet all 3 branches have trampled the Constitution.
One other point - Bernake lied when he responded to "renounce" the global currency. If you study people and facial expressions, when he was asked about renouncing a global currency, Bernake said he would and he looked down and away, showing he is lying.

It seems to me that the clock should stop after the questions are asked, so that these people can't take up your time answering in Circles.

Watch Bernanke answer the currency question again a few times. It's around 2:48. Now tell me, do you trust this man's answer? Also, watch Geithner tap his hand on the table after he answers the question--is it a nervous tick, did he put his foot in his mouth, or was it a stress reaction when he lies...???
