Obama Youth Brigade: Church Attendance Forbidden

Obama Youth Brigade: Church Attendance Forbidden

By Jonas Clark

Is this the change you really voted for?

President Obama has only been in office for two months.
Now we have
HR 1388. The Bill was sponsored by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) with 37 others. The Bill was introduced to the floor of the House of Representatives where both Republicans and Democrats voted 321-105 in favor. Next it goes to the Senate for a vote and then on to President Obama.

This bill’s title is called “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education” (GIVE). It forms what some are calling “Obama’s Youth Brigade.”

Obama’s plan is require anyone receiving school loans and others to serve at least three months as part of the brigade. His goal is one million youth! This has serious Nazi Germany overtones to it.

The Bill would forbid any student in the brigade to participate in “engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.” That means no church attendance or witnessing.

Again, is this what America voted for?

Here is part of the HR1388 Bill’s wording:

SEC. 1304. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.

Section 125 (42 U.S.C.
12575) is amended to read as follows:

SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.

(a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities:

(1) Attempting to influence legislation.

(2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes.

(In other words dissent is not allowed nor is dissenting influence.)

(7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.

(Whatever happened to freedom of religion and keeping government OUT of religion? See what's going on ....? Coerced volunteerism is all you hear about - not the devil in the details.)

FYI...this is crap to make us look ignorant...is it working?

According to the bills text at.. http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h1388/text

Section 125 (42 U.S.C. 12575) is repealed.

Section 1310 is actually the section that deals with what can and can't be done, or who can't do it...hmmm OK now I have myself confused. :O) Anyway the wording is completely different and as pointed out below, would we want someone within a government position doing these things while in their "official" capacity? I don't think so. I'm definitely not in support of this bill, but I also know how dumb people look when they take random emails and questionable sights as the gospel.

It actually reads as follows:

‘(a) Prohibited Activities- An approved national service position under this subtitle may not be used for the following activities:

Not quite the same as... "(a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities:"

I don't understand how you

I don't understand how you can be required to volunteer.

Violation of first amendment,

but when did breaking the law concern congress?

Careful...

I sincerely doubt this is the full context. Do you know for a fact that this prohibition applies to off duty time? If not, then there is no fire here, just a prudent separation between government programs and religious institutions.

ding ding ding...

Ron Johnson gets the award of the day.... :O) Can we all say context together now...

How would the Government

How would the Government know if you attended church? i don't think they are enough agents to track eveyone. besides, what are they going to do, kill one of their own for going to church?

It’s terrible how much the

It’s terrible how much the government is intruding on religious values these days. I heard they even tried to introduce a law that forbid Jewish children from taking part in the Sabbath.

I am not religious, however,

I am not religious, however, denying people who are the right to worship is unconstitutional and just wrong! We can not deny people the freedom of choice!

Obamatrons

Will this new army of Obamatrons wear brown shirts like the Nazi youth or will they wear green. Will Michelle O design their uniforms?

BELIEVE ME I do not trust this guy....

and in no way feel this bill is even fractionally constitutional.... but on this particular section I wonder if this is saying that any of those activities CANNOT BE COUNTED as part of the term of service??? In other words you can do those things but it wont be counted against "time served"..... so to speak. I think we need Judge Napolitano to read the final bill and explain it to us.

That is a possibility. I can see the wording being interpreted either way.

Do I trust the government to interpret it the right way?

Wonder if the hours calculated for this servitude of the youth could be counted as an asset over the next ten years against debt? I believe in one place I read the gov. said for every dollar spent it would return $2.60. Is not mandatory volunteerism the same as involuntary servitude which I believe has another name and against the Constitution. One video I watched by a South Carolina senator said this Service America Act (or G.I.V.E.) would make up the fourteenth largest company in the world. I think the gov should do the right thing and instruct Wall Street, large banks, large insurance companies, and all those derivative traders to do some very structured community service.

ominous and odd

How can they spy on church activity if they can't participate in church activities? How can they spy on protest organization if they can't participate in protest organization?

Rick Warren is already there

Rick Warren is already there to do that for them.

Definately

not a faith-based initiative program.

Interesting that this is in here because much altruistic behavior comes from people of faith.

It is very disturbing the number of people who can't see this bill for what it is - a back door to conscription. All they see when they read it is the word "Americorps" and gosh what's wrong with Americorps?

I've stopped trying.

Interesting that Americorp was given millions of dollars in the Stimulus Package...hmmm...why is it added AGAIN to this bill?

Church and state.

What's the problem? It's volunteerism. Emphasis on the word volunteer.

Hitlers youth

was voluntary too, but the ones who did not participate were ostracized until they did.

ehem...

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" and I don't prescribe to organized religion but I understand the First Amendment.

What appears to be prohibited

in light of the other prohibitions, is these religious activities as the stuff of the "volunteer hours," but given the tenor of the times it is not unreasonable to believe that a zealous enforcer would read it as applying to the "volunteers'" private lives as well.

A number of years ago, "volunteer" hours (forty if I recall correctly) were mandated as a requirement for high school graduation in Ontario. Jawohl!

What is it going to take

To wake up this country full of SHHHHEEEEPPPP? To make people understand that this is a criminal enterprise! These Bas@#@S don't work for us and NEVER HAVE. Do you think these multi millionaires/billionaires care about the average working class man? They care about MAINTAINING control of the populace and generating REVENUE from us. It's going to get NASTY folks.

I'm an atheist and find this disturbing.

As you should. This is an attack not just on freedom but on most of the first amendment rights:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

(emphasis added)

These rights will be taken away for all "volunteers" in this program.

?

Is this only during thier 3 month training or even after indoctrination? Will it make becoming a preacher, priest ect. a thing of the past. What if they are in a college or are studying to be a preacher?

Zee must worship der furer.

All hail Obama!

Sarcasm.

Good

Do you really want the OYB in churches anyway?

The issue here is whether or

The issue here is whether or not this service is going to be voluntary or mandatory. Remember that the income tax is "voluntary" as well. You can be sure there will be a lot of pressure to get youth into this program, and once in, they will no longer be able to participate in their churches, political movements, or express any dissension with government policies. A careful reading of this bill is required to see all of the possible implications, but what I have read so far has me very concerned.

this FREAKY legislation...

it is so disturbing ... i don't have the words...

I just called my senators

Senator Enzi's office assured me that people are against it only because they do not understand it. She kept saying it is NOT mandatory, yet when i mentioned that it is mandatory that they teach it in the schools, she didn't understand it. I also called my other senator, and let them know too, and asked both if a lot of people had called, and they said yes, and all were against it. So I said "Well, then we will know soon if our representatives actually represent us. " One of them laughed at that.
