I have no doubt that drugs

I have no doubt that drugs will be legalized in the near future so they can be controlled -- similar to tobacco -- by state governments. Folks that are against legalizing drugs make the same old arguments over and over. They totally ignore the fact that drugs are available and being used by anyone who wants them -- legal or not. IMO most of the foilks railing againt legalizing drugs have a monetary interest in keeping drugs illegal. As we all know there is a lot of money to be made in keeping drugs illegal.

Of course it will eventually

Of course it will eventually be legalized (aka controlled) by the government. This will make our government our dealer, pimp and thief. Looks like they've got every aspect of our lives controlled.

God awful debate. Ernest

God awful debate.

Ernest Istook is insane. His thoughts on amendments for the constitution are insane.

His whole idea of what government is and what government should be is so twisted and outside a rational thinking man's mind.

Don't forget the "p".

Is this supposed to be good

Is this supposed to be good or bad? I can only muster indifference.

I think it goes to show the

I think it goes to show the polarization of America. Republicans want Replicanism(Faux) and Dems want Liberalism(MSNBC). The propagandists at CNN are too subtle for the average American. They seem to want more blatant bias.

hey, if it was a real fight

hey, if it was a real fight I'd tune in too! Unfortunately, we get know-nothing hosts that surround themselves with yes men 90% of the time.

Patriots must be serious, drop abstact complexity--get concrete!

Time For Patriots To Get Serious, Hence Honest--Concrete
(Apollonian, 27 Mar 09)

"Flame": instead of people always having to "listen" to someone else, etc., why not just be honest and concrete, and doing a little thinking on ur own?

(a) 9-11 was un-questionably an "inside job"--how otherwise did those buildings disintegrate and fall in free-fall speed? I swear people gotta start thinking to save their very lives. Think of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" who knew there was something "rotten in Denmark."

(b) Fed is "private" without any question--quit being stupid. The owners of Fed make their real profits elsewhere, the Fed enabling the COUNTERFEITING which then directly and overwhelmingly benefits the Commercial banks which Fed serves. See RealityZone.com for expo/ref. on Fed.

(c) Quit indulging in useless abstractions and pretentious "intellect" which just cloud ur mind, preventing u fm thinking clearly and then acting effectively. For once u see CONCRETE fact Fed is COUNTERFEIT scam/mechanism/operation--u see Fed couldn't be anything other than a CONSPIRACY, pure and simple--it's literally a criminal enterprise, nothing more nor less.

(d) Fed counterfeiting, considered CONCRETELY, is then understandable EVEN BY CHILDREN. Counterfeiting is fraud which is no more "Constitutional" than is murder--it doesn't matter if Congress "legalizes" it--it's still in-admissible outrage which must be immediately halted, stopped, ended.

CONCLUSION: And finally, if Congressman Ron came out and emphasized that CONCRETE fact regarding explicit counterfeiting nature, he'd do thereby a great deal to "copping" necessary "case." For there'd be no more doubt among the people as to EXACTLY what Fed is and does, presently about to destroy USA. Honest elections and death to the Fed. Apollonian

Setting up Ron Paul

Sorry guys but I think that was one big setup. Ron Paul has been getting way too much popularity with his economic savvy. Why CNN felt that this was a doable debate, (I use the term 'debate' loosely), I can only speculate. I don't believe Ms Brown had any intention of monitoring the discussion, she just let the bully loose. I can only hope that viewers see this as it is and not a weakness on the part of Ron Paul for not joining in the chaos of interrupted thought.

I got that feeling

right before this "debate" started. Maybe it was the smug look on that guy's face but there was something strange about it from the beginning.

Dr Paul

Always the gentleman doesn't talk over that buffoon...he handles everything he does with class.

My message to Mr. Istook

Hi! Firstly I'd like to say that I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to discuss drug policy (among other things) on television. I have to confess, though, that I was put off by some of your remarks. When you mentioned the Supreme Court ruling on federal law superceding state law regarding medical marijuana, I was reminded of the phrase "law is not justice." That ruling relies on a very broad interpretation of the interstate commerce clause - a piece of legislation that was quite clearly never intended to grant the federal government such broad power to control what citizens consume, much less to supercede state regulations on that matter. A plain reading of the Constitution makes this very clear. One has to rely on some very nebulous logic to make a real legal argument in favor of that ruling. Supreme Court justices are not infallible - you may recall that the Supreme Court ruled twice against the constitutionality of an income tax, yet we have one today.

I also disagree with your characterization of drug legalization as "surrender". This subtly implies that your opponent is a coward, or somehow unpatriotic, and in my opinion it's a disingenous approach. The most destructive aspect of recreational marijuana usage is, by far, the potential legal ramifications - not anything inherent in the drug itself. The way you use statistics is similarly misleading. Marijuana does have 4 times the tar of a cigarette, but you don't have to smoke marijuana at all to become intoxicated. You can eat marijuana, and you can vaporize it, which makes the particulate content negligible. Smoking is nt ecommended by medical dispensaries. There is also the simple math regarding usage - no one smokes 20 marijuana cigarettes in a day. Very, very few people smoke even two. Given a typical half-pack a day smoker, the tar content is on par with that of cigarettes, to say nothing of heavy smokers. The causal relationship between marijuana and cancer is tenuous at best, and it's well known that marijuana contains less carcinogenic content than cigarettes. And throwing out a statistic that teen use is down 25% - where does that come from? What period was the sample taken in? I'm sure you've heard the phrase "lies, damned lies, and statistics" - it's easy, and surely tempting, to manipulate statistics - especially when billions of dollars of funding and high profile careers are on the line. It's harder to be honest and speak from the heart on these matters, and I don't believe that you are doing so. When I look at that appearance, I see a man stroking his ego, not a man being honest with himself.

I think you're a great speaker, and I think that you could have a real transformative effect if you examined these issues more closely and gave a voice to your conscience. To segue back into border security - when you declare war on drugs, is it any surprise that you soon find yourself facing soldiers? We both know that the amount of drugs confiscated on the Mexican border is a negligible amount of the total. It's simply a cost of doing business to these organizations - in retail outlets they call it shrinkage. The real casualties of this war are normal Americans being locked in a cage for possessing a plant. We've had enough of it, and we could use your help.

A complete joke

it was ridiculous how they cut him off. It was almost two against one.

a word they said. waste of time

Ron was not up on his sound bite screams like

Being illegal makes the price of weed 30 times the price of cigarettes.

If the money was not in it, there would be no violence.

They will fight a drug war for 3000% profit, but not 5% profit.

Wow, that guy was OVERBEARING...

That guy was OVERTALKING, and Campbell wasn't controlling the conversation. He was RUDE, I think.

A schedule II substance (tetrahydrocanibinal). Prescription only. Again the medical industrial complex wins and the American people lose. The individual opposing Dr. Paul was paid nicely for his commentary.

I also think Dr Paul is

I also think Dr Paul is picking up steam with the media on his predictions and now they are trying to slander him again on anything they can because people are waking up!

He reminds me of a child that keeps saying "lalalalalalalalalalalalalala..."
To keep from hearing logic.
That would have been childish though.
He might as well have said "WAR,WOOOOOOOO,WAR,WOOOOO..." over and over.
This was a sad example of a intellectual debate.Started off well and ended up a louder voice contest initiated by a mental midget.

Patriots will only win and beat criminals by means of HONESTY

Patriot Soldiers Need To Start Getting Serious To Avoid Horrific Defeat
(Apollonian, 27 Mar 09)

Jeff: u utterly miss the pt.--ck my below expo, comrade. U gotta get smart--not mad.

Istook knows he's just a criminal, working for criminals, see? So note he just wants to justify gov. spending more idiotic funding for stupid purposes, etc., all of this continuing their neat little MONOPOLY they have by means of banning the drugs. All criminals want to do is to KEEP distracting the people.

For with monopoly (drugs), criminals can charge high prices--at same time as then being able to throw people they don't like into concentration camp/prison. Plus, they can use drugs additionally to pay and extort assassins, etc.

So give the devil his due: ISTOOK DID HIS JOB--note his only stupid little "point" was to effect, hey we already got pharmaceutical-type drug, etc., which precludes then all the "tar" u get fm smoking mary-jane, etc. This then further enhances their other monopoly for legal drugs, phamaceuticals--Istook did brilliantly, actually--give him credit.

The lesson is Cong. Ron has to get in there, right at very first: HEY THESE PEOPLE who want to ban drugs ARE CRIMINAL CONSPIRATORS, pure and simple. By banning, they achieve monopoly--u dig? Legalizing thus destroys criminal conspiracy--period--end of exposition (in concept). Sometimes Cong. Ron tries to do toooooo much with his intellectual manner.

I'm 56 yr old soldier--it doesn't do any good to complain the other side isn't "playing fair." For there IS NO "FAIR" WAR, comrades. U just gotta hit the scum on other side FIRST, HARD, and MOST. Thus successful strategy requires HONESTY--Istook did his job well--note it was only thing he could do, so he was a "charming" criminal. Now we gotta simply do better.

Congressman Ron has DEFINITE weak pt.--he indulges in intellect and abstractions far too much, too often--when he could be simpler, more to-the-pt., cutting straight to the essence, the CONCRETE. Another example is the Fed--it's a COUNTERFEIT scam/mechanism.

CONCLUSION: U people for freedom gotta quit screwing around OR U'RE GOING TO LOSE THE WAR. USA is about to go sailing OVER THE proverbial CLIFF, the US Dollar collapsing, unless u start to getting it together--which it doesn't look like u're capable of doing with all ur balderdash and pretend intellect without honesty and concreteness. Honest elections and death to the Fed. Apollonian

The majority of Americans want it legalized

so it really doesn't matter what that douche bag said. We can't have a natural herb,..but we can buy synthetic heroin (aka- oxycotton) what a crock of horseshit!

A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves.

Istook did as well as charming criminal could do, but so what?

Istook Is Clever, Charming Criminal Who Did Well--Congressman Ron Should Take Notice
(Apollonian, 27 Mar 09)

Well, Congressman Ron wasn't allowed to have his say whence his facts and logic would have done so excellently as usual, in his characteristic intellectual manner--he depends upon that intellect, never forget. Thus Istook very cleverly took opportunity to interrupt and be charmingly rude which clearly flustered dear old Ron.

So Istook scored well with his backers--always remember these guys are criminals, working for criminals--that's only reason drugs are banned: IT THEN CREATES A MONOPOLY for the "insiders." So Istook did what he had to do. Congressman Ron did okay, but perhaps not as well as he might have otherwise out-classing the criminals for their lack of integrity for intellect.

Look comrades: u gotta start getting smart: WE'RE UP AGAINST A CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY, pure and simple. The free market destroys their monopoly--that's the long and short of it. Congressman Ron will do best as he emphasizes this counter-monopoly argument, stressing how banning drugs only empowers criminals and oppresses the people.

CONCLUSION: So Istook did his job, but people still love Congressman Ron when he's given fair chance--that's how it's always gonna be, I'm sure. Honest elections and death to the Fed. Apollonian

Ron did his best with a loudmouth do-gooder.

This Ernest guy is annoying. He's a loudmouth and he thinks the perpetual Orwellian war on drugs is fantastic. Ron was not afforded a fair opportunity to make his case. Bad interview.

Blast Istook!!!!

What a disrespectful mug to attack the other side like that. Istook shouldn't be legislating morality given that it was his same views, which got the DEA to ban marijuana use in the first place.

Everyone needs to give Istook and those CNN shows a piece of their mind.
