Private or not the
Private or not the government shouldn't be involved in banking. If the Constitution is to be followed then the government should only regulate money, coined in gold and silver. If people are foolish enough to trust other people to manage their money by banking it, then it is their own foolishness. I prefer to spend my money and save my wealth in something that will produce. Property is a good investment. If you can't afford to buy something alone, get a group of family together, share the costs and become self sufficient.

The Federal Reserve is clearly a socialist/fascist, leviathan..
And it misses the greater point.

Rather than being accountable to the law it acts as a de-facto head of state which can create the laws, by coining the currency, and through no other sinister action then something as trivial as legalized bribery.
Legalized Bribery of the richest, who have all the money at their disposal to cod or "force" Congress to do what they want them to do.
Thus, they control everything and we have allowed this - because we did not demand the Congress have full supervisory over the Fed, which the first nationwide Audit aims to stop once and for all.
That is the purpose, people nor institutions have had full regulatory power over the Fed and the greater danger is that we don't have access to the Federal Reserve at all. We have "check stubs" and for the first time, perhaps in a long time, our country will examine this "Bank".

It's a government ordained corporation.
Federal Express on the other hand is a private corporation. It exists without government enforcing its existence.
Dr. Paul used the word "private" improperly here. He's more careful with his wording now, and calls the Fed a "branch of government" which is actually what it is.

You only have to legally pay taxes and debts
using federal reserve notes, according to the legal tender laws. That is why barter still exists.
Businesses can transact business in any way they see fit, as long as they pay their taxes in FRNs.

The PARADOX.....
The PARADOX that has always been held with that, is that the Federal Reserve act was NOT read by Congress, the people, or any oversight the night it was passed.
It was just passed with nary a word like the Patriot Act, under apparent threat or a large european banking buyout. Thus the Constitution our framers created, was EVISCERATED using this amendment.
Federal Reserve is privately controlled, and only Congress has the powers to veto it or thusly get it UNDER CONTROL given that it has viewed itself above the nation.
