NYT: 'He’s Mad, Apocalyptic, Tearful, and a Rising Star on Fox News' (He's Glenn Beck)

“You are not alone,” Glenn Beck likes to say. For the disaffected and aggrieved Americans of the Obama era, he could not have picked a better rallying cry.
Mr. Beck, an early-evening host on the Fox News Channel, is suddenly one of the most powerful media voices for the nation’s conservative populist anger. Barely two months into his job at Fox, his program is a phenomenon: it typically draws about 2.3 million viewers, more than any other cable news host except Bill O’Reilly or Sean Hannity, despite being on at 5 p.m., a slow shift for cable news.
With a mix of moral lessons, outrage and an apocalyptic view of the future, Mr. Beck, a longtime radio host who jumped to Fox from CNN’s Headline News channel this year, is capturing the feelings of an alienated class of Americans.
In an interview, Mr. Beck, who recently rewatched the 1976 film “Network,” said he identified with the character of Howard Beale, the unhinged TV news anchorman who declares on the air that he is “mad as hell.”
“I think that’s the way people feel,” Mr. Beck said. “That’s the way I feel.”

More of the same old "bait and switch"; See where your opponent's strengths reside, and make a costume out of those elements. Beck is nothing more than a present-day Pied Piper, appropriating a ready-made following in order to steer it away from effectiveness. I don't even know why we're debating his bona fides, instead of fighting his agenda, tooth and nail.
I have to admit
I actually said , "Yes, He's got it!" on more than one occasion while watching his program recently. But the other day, he was talking about how awful mob rule was. He showed pictures of the French protesting and various other people angrily holding signs up in groups re; the likes of the bailout etc.
All I could think was, "Sooooooo!" That's what we should do. Protest!
Protesting represents freedom of speech and assembly.
I mean, isn't his "We Surround Them" a mob rule sentiment??

weren't on Fox I would be more inclined to believe he is sincere but please don't forget who owns the MSM and how despicably Fox treated Ron Paul during the primaries.
And like Alan Stang has asked - why wasn't he included as a potential terrorist in the MIAC report - or at least a category dedicated to shows like his? Surely the topics he delves into are similar to what the report called suspicious.

Are they attempting to corral this group of people?
It seems like Glen Beck's show is there to corral those people who are "angry and disaffected" as the article says. I like what Glen Beck says and he has Ron Paul on all the time, but it wouldn't surprise me if once he has his group thoroughly captured he begins to slowly steer them in a direction more acceptable to the elites.
Consider this: Beck used to be a well spoken, calm radio host on CNN. His presentation was up there with the rest of them. Then he moves to FOX and suddenly his *persona* changes. He becomes this guy who is slightly nutty in his presentation, starting and stopping sentences and slapping his forehead. To me, it looks like he's doing an act. He's a showman, doing a mass market version of Alex Jones.
So while he's doing good stuff now, he deserves to be watched closely for any compromises to libertarian beliefs.

... corral the disenfranchised and encourage them to expose themselves to the enemy. The NWO can only exist when mass depopulation occurs and they will be the first to go. Whether Beck is intending this result or not, the result is the same.
Of course, it also means we can also identify and corral these folks as our brothers and sisters in the fight for freedom because we on the Die List together.

I agree, he's a distraction. When I first started listening to him I thought he was an honest, average guy who believes things are wrong in the economy and govt. Now that's he's ultra-successful, I believe he's just as bought and paid for as anyone else who makes it that high up. He dances around important issues; he leads people right up to the conclusion of issues but never actually commits to them. I think he's a fake and is near the peak of his popularity. If he were a stock, I'd sell him now.

I think he gets it.
I think he gets it. Especially if you listen to his daily radio show, which I do just about everyday. He's talked about how this isn't a matter of Republican vs Democrat but rather (paraphrasing) about authoritarianism vs objectivism. You don't GET that unless you are really a true Libertarian, I think, because thats a mental shift, and one thats not really talked about too much, or at least not footnoted like some common cliche.

do not relate to Glenn Beck. Those of us who can see the Obama administration is nothing but a continuation of the Bush administration and we are being ruled by a single party system see Glenn Beck for who he really is: a Fox News entertainer whose show is designed to stir up negative emotions instead of enlightening audiences with the truth.

I won't accept that he has truly changed unless he makes a sincere apology to us on live television. Saying that he was wrong in the past for saying such things and announcing that he has awakened to the words of the founding fathers.
