Has Ron Paul gained in popularity?
Submitted by jschaefer on Mon, 03/30/2009 - 08:55
I know there are die hards for Ron Paul and I have become one of them in the last year but has he become more popular with the general public? What are opinions out there and what's your evidence?
Thanks.

His colloquialisms are repeated everywhere...
"they'll just print money out of thin air"
"we have lived beyond our means"
"the chickens have come home to roost"
Before 2007 I hadn't heard those sayings in years ago from my grandparents. Now they're repeated by all the cable shows but you heard them in every GOP debate from RP. The "message" is getting into the subconscious of all sides of the debate. We are seeing the wrong solutions applied so when they fail there will be a search for the opposite and that's when our message will rise to the surface. When all other possibilities are eliminated, the solution presents itself.
voting for status?
That's something I never have, and never will, understand: Voting on the basis of the likelyhood that the candidate will win... Why do they care so much about voting for someone that seems like a long shot, whereas the likely winners are so dismally out of touch with their constituents. That way of thinking never ceases to amaze me. Talk about counter-productive! That herd mentality is what has gotten us where we are, and nobody, or very few people, seems to get it.
It's the same logic that's applied in the old Bazooka Joe joke: Joe spots a friend that seems to be looking for something. He asks: "You dropped your ring around here?", to which the friend answers: "No, it happened over there".Well then, asks Joe, why are you looking here?, To which the friend replies: "Because it's dark over there"...
I just drove to Florida on vacation
and saw three huge Ron Paul for President signs along the highway. It made me smile. Seems like ten years ago we campaigned for him. I believe most people are still asleep. I am sitting by the pool, on vacation, and here I am on dailypaul. Freedom dies hard.
Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must. like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.-Thomas Paine
The R3volution requires action, not observation!!!!
I think he's making inroads more...
With all due respect to Daniel Hannan from the UK and his great speech on their floor, the media seems to be falling all over themselves to get interviews from Daniel. I was listening to the Mike Galliger show this morning and he had Daniel on, praising him up and down all around, but won't treat Dr Paul with the same respect he did for Daniel. Dr Paul gives equally knockout speeches. The problem with our Congress is when Dr Paul speaks, just about everyone leaves the chamber and I find this highly disrespectful. Congress ought to make everyone stay until all speakers have spoken.

I think he is gaining popularity
I'm not sure about the population as a whole, but my parents (mainstream christian republicans for their whole life) used to dismiss RP as an amusing radical with no political future. During the campaign, Fox News had soundbites about how he would legalize marauna and how he thought that 9/11 was Americas fault, but never gave him a chance to discuss the reasons behind these seemingly radical views. My parents (and probably most other mainstream republicans) disagreed with him on these issues, and didn't bother to consider him further.
Now that the economy tanked and they have lost a large percentage of their savings due to the stock market crash, they have been more and more accepting of RP. When they turn on the news they see RP on opposing the bailouts, opposing TARP, etc. This has helped them gain a very positive view of him. Recently my father told me that we need 100 RP's in congress. My father has read Peter Schiff's book and is considering investing money with Euro Pacific. So there is no doubt that that there is allot of progress.
My father still thinks that the world is out to get us (the Russians, Chinese, radical Muslims, etc) and so he supports the Middle East wars. And both my parents disagree with legalizing drugs. But for the time being the fact that RP is one of the only principled fiscal conservatives in the congress trumps all other considerations. I think these views are representative of a large segment of the conservative base.
This is good to hear. Here
This is good to hear. Here are my 2 cents on legalizing drug. While I'm not 100% sure about it. I don't think he should pound his point too hard because I remember andrew Jackson had to 2 things he wanted to get accomplished when in office. Change the electoral system or get rid of the central bank. He chose the central bank because he knew he could only do one thing. So that is my thinking, I think when, even if principled, he talks about legalizing drugs it distracts people from the other very important issues that he presents.
I don't think so
I think Ron Paul's economic issues are appealing to those who are not giving Obama a blank check; but, on the other hand...
The Tea Party for example... Ron Paul rEVOLution was having tea parties in 07. The rEVOLution/ C4L and many more have been working on tea parties for two years... About a month ago I received an email asking about what's up with the tea party, but it wasn't from Ron Paul... as you know, the tea parties got little MSM attention, and then, MSM picked it up.. John and Ken in CA, Beck on Fox, so then I got emails telling me about tea parties, different organizations, none mentioning Ron Paul, and now I get an email from Newt, the GOP, telling me about the April 15th tea party, not a word about Ron Paul.
Respectfully speaking, no; Ron Paul is not becomming more popular. Ron Paul's message is becoming more popular They want money...they saw how Ron Paul's message made bank and they want that bank..but they are NOT Ron Paul.. they did not support Ron Paul, and when they do not give credit to Ron Paul... they are not acting with integrity, which is what we LOVE about Ron Paul.
MSM, GOP will say anything to get money, but they do not keep their word. Look how they are changing..NOW they sound like Ron Paul? GOOD. Hopefully those who keep them (MSM) in power will LOVE the message and be so inspired to come to find out who Ron Paul is, and respect him.

thanks for the comments thus
thanks for the comments thus far. It's been encouraging. I wish Ron Paul we're 10 years younger. He needs to be around for a while until someone with charisma emerges with similar values of following the constitution.
here is a proof of Ron Paul popularity

"How can we justify to the unemployed and underemployed in the United States the incredible cost of maintaining a global empire?" - Dr. Ron Paul
It's basically
a relationship to pain.
When the public feels no pain, they couldn't care less about RP, or any truthful issue, for that matter.
When living in relative comfort, they'll suck down any lie that comes their way, and not care a lick about anything else.
When things start to get rough for them, then they suddenly wonder "How did things get this way?".
Just like the idiots that they are.
So then, they see RP on TV and say, "Hey! That guy has some good ideas! I wonder where he's been hiding?".
The public is hopeless, and we're going to go down with them.
agree. there is a
agree. there is a coorespondence with how far the market crashes to his media appearances!
Simply my personal experience
Numerous people have told me how much they agree with Ron Paul as they follow him more.
This is likely at least somewhat due to my pushing them to see the common sense in the approach, but I am assuming I am not the only person educating my network.
It is safe to say that Paul's general popularity has grown substantially over the past 24 months.

More pro war people are
More pro war people are willing to debate the war, because they understand it is tied to the economy. they don't agree with us, but at least now they are listening a bit.
more prowar people
more pro war people were pro war because they were pro Bush. They are not pro Obama and they respect Ron paul as a fiscal conservative, but they do not agree with him about the war.

Yep
That's what I run into. People that agree with him on most things except foriegn policy. Alot say they would have voted for him if they had known who he was or that he was running or if they thought he had a chance to win. How sad. But I think we all know they would not have let him win or they would not have allowed him to do what he would do. Probably would have him killed. It is better this way. People have to be more awake to what's going on and stay that way in order for this country to have a future. The people behind a good president need to be educated and informed. he would be useless without the people standing with him in force. The elite would just sabatoge everything he tried to do. We the People have alot of work to do. We (the sheeple) need to learn how and that we can run our own lives. He wanted to represent us. Not rule us.
Unfortunately many in this country have forgotten that concept.
I can't say for certain
I can't say for certain whether Ron Paul is more popular. Obviously he is more popular with the media and in the Congress now that the election is over. What I DO know is that Alex Jones' stuff is increasingly popular and becoming mainstream. People that wouldnt give me the time of day are watching The Obama Deception because they have other friends watching it too. Alex owns the internet.
