If you could live anywhere.....where would you live?
Submitted by RS on Tue, 03/31/2009 - 08:46
Seriously, do you have any ideas of where to go in the world to live?
SIngapore is a joke (unless you like living in a city)
South America?
Europe?
Africa?
Russia?
What are your thoughts?

Tennessee
When I was 18, this Illlinois Prairie girl fell in love with the woods of Tennessee and this is where I raised my kids. Neither of them want to live anywhere else, and we are a close family. My roots may not be here but my branches are, so there is no place I'd rather be.

NOW...
There is no place better in the world.
It's here in the States and it is as far away from NAZI Germany / TEXAS as possible.
Out of all the states in the Union. Texas is absolutely the worst.
I'd move back to
South China.
but it seems the battle is here in the USA.
Montana is
looking good to me but I doubt I could convince my husband.

Utah
I will not abandon my country in a TIME OF GREAT PERIL. If the bill in the special committee makes it through the Utah Legislature, declaring UTAH a FED Gov Free Zone with respect to Guns and Ammo, that that would be my choice.

Where to live
Some may choose to flee to another country, as for me, I will stand with all the brave Patriots in Montana! All men die but how many truly LIVE!

Preferably in a little cabin in a totally wilderness area with my dogs. Give me peace and quiet, and back to nature.
I love Mexico
Great fresh food, lots of freedom, awesome beer, lovely patient people, low taxes, lots of nice colors, fertile soil, and great weather.
Certainly there are problems, the biggest being the so-called free trade agreements but overall one of my favorite countries.
Bhutan is a favorite too. Peru is another wonderful country.
Don't go to Europe
The EU is an unbelievable disgrace of an organisation, and if you think the levels of government meddling and red tape are bad in the States ... you ain't seen nuthin till you've dealt with anything within the EU.
Ireland is one of your best options for Europe, I would say - that's where I'm going next year. They at least have opted out of some of the globalist crap that everyone else in Europe just gobbles up. Socialism has barely made a dent in the States. Europe is riddled with it and - what's worse - they revel in it. Europeans think socialism is good.
I'm from Scotland, so I've lived amongst this all my life, and just spent a year travelling round the world trying to find somewhere that's acceptable. New Zealand is out. Fiji is out. Britain is out. Finland is out. The only place we went that we could see ourselves living was the US, actually.
Yes there are growing problems in the States, but there's one major difference between the US and everywhere else I've been: in America if you disagree with the standard line, the opinion given to you by the media, then you are not alone. In Britain (and many other parts of Europe), you are in the extreme minority. Over there - in the States - you have a voice. There are many people who understand the problems with big government, with socialism, with Keynesian economics, for whom capitalism is not a dirty word. I was in the US just after the election for several months and it was such a breath of fresh air to hear people debating the actual strucure of how things are done, rather than some stupid little policy detail. And to see people trying to figure out how to better their situation and their country, rather than complaining constantly and waiting for the government to fix everything.
So yes - don't consider Britain. It's an incredibly depressing place to live.
Western Australia's a good option if you have enough money for them to let you in, although they're having their own set of problems right now.
If you're after somewhere that gets it though, then look no further than your own doorstep. Find a state whose policies match your own and go there. Move to New Hampshire or Montana or Colorado or Vermont - or Alaska. If the freedom loving few from each state move to the freedom loving states then we will become the freedom loving majority within those states. Then we can start to do something worthwhile.
I intend to move across at the earliest opportunity to lend a hand in getting America back to her roots and to her Constitution. As far as I'm concerned, there is nowhere else where that's do-able.

What happened to Ireland
in that scenario? You left out Texas?
Hey, pet guardian,
next time you are in Vail in The Westside, ask for the Ron Paul patriot. He will love a little like-minded camaraderie. And, don't leave us, bring your daughter home.
Steamboat
is getting like that too. Shameful.
I swear the most free countries are the poorest. There is not much money in keeping track of poor peeps. Taxing them costs more than leaving them alone.
Ireland is green and wholesome but I would not consider being part of the EU.

thanks for that perspective.
I'd heard that New Zealand was better than most countries, but you say it's out of consideration, wish you'd give the reasons.
Its a mixed bag
Its really good on some points, but not on other. Unlike many countries in Europe that are bad alround.
Wages in NZ are much less than the U.S, even after tax. NZ'ders have a tendency to be very socialistic, but practical. So quite free on trade, and no farm subsidies. We removed tarrifs for foreign cars, shutting down our car industry, but managed to have one of the best rates of unemployment in the OECD. No Farm subsidies, but our farmers are some of the most productive.
The U.S and Switzerland (as mentioned by Ron Paul) have the most Libeertarian minded people.

Wow! What a great posting.
It's nice to get a view from outside the US.

Amsterdam
If all goes well, I will be taking a trip there this November...I'm considering not coming back and just staying there illegally. Screw it, if my country is being overrun by illegal immigrants, I might as well do it myself. If they find me, I'm going to claim I'm a refugee

NYC
I wish I could live there. They have a good school system, a great transportation system, lots of cool buildings( although I miss the 2 really tall ones). They have a lot of police so that it is a safe place to live. They have a really high tech surveillance system that can monitor everyone so you really can't get lost. Great restaurants and shopping and a nice park.
Most of the stuff that people call money is there in those big banks with all those nice people who help you invest yours.
I'm sure you can think of more reasons to live in NYC, I just can't think of them all. Sure wish I could afford it.

Why all the hate for
Why all the hate for Singapore? Singapore is smack-dab in the middle of South East Asia. For a hundred bucks you could be flying to go scuba diving in Indonesia, sharing a joint with a loved one on a beach in Thailand, or partying in KL Malaysia for the evening. Singapore has some of the best hospitals in the world--if you're older, great food, and tropical weather.
Yes. I'll agree, it's a bit sterile and the island is full of shopping malls but you can escape it very easily anytime you get the urge and do it for very cheap.
Also, Singapore is very green for a city and has some great birds. This is something I enjoy very much because I spend most of my time in Tokyo and Tokyo is a true concrete jungle infested with noisy crows.
Singapore is also a great place to start an offshore business. Perfect place to start that Internet business you've always dreamed about.
Someday I may retire there, unless the Revolution needs me....
Not hate for it....
....I just don't want to live in a city or be near people. As far as I'm concerned "freedom" requires A LOT of land.
I was raised on 100 acres and have no intention of living in some 1 acre "plot" in, say, Ecuador or France. And I sure as heck don't want to live some place that "has great night life".
There's more to life than having convenience stores, internet and good roads.
I think the poster has ruled out urban areas completely.
Actually, I think people who want to live in a rural location should probably stick with the USA.

Liverpool, England.
O.K. I'm biased on this one. I moved to Liverpool from the south of England in October 2004.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool
Liverpool has all the amenities of a big city like London without the same level of noise, pollution, living expenses and hassle.
It has a "small town" feel and good public transport. Politically, it isn't remotely Libertarian, but then that's also true of Britain as a whole.
You would be taxed as much in any other English city, but in Liverpool, more of the government (including EU) cash is spent in the area.
