National Protective Services - Homeland Security?

I just saw two cars - I thought they were police cars - that had 'National Protective Services' on them. They also said 'Homeland Security. I'm certain I saw gov't plates.

WTF? Where did these guys come from? Has anyone hear of these guys before? What is their mission?

and Homeland security buses on US 60 going east and west bound around Apache Junction AZ. I see these things everyday.

I saw a Homeland Security car on I-81 in Christiansburg, VA a few months ago. I did a double take, then remembered there is a DARPA facility here, under Butt Mountain (yes, that's its real name).

Dammit I should have taken a picture with my cell phone... I didn't think.
I circled the block to come up on them again in order to read it. Definite gov't plates. "Homeland Security" on the fenders and "National Protective Services" on the doors.
White cars. Very, very clean (new).
