Got Hemp?
http://washingtonindependent.com/36847/got-hemp
Well, you might have a bit more if Reps. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Ron Paul (R-Texas) get their way. The two lawmakers have plans to reintroduce legislation to legalize the domestic farming of industrial hemp, a genetic but non-psychoactive relative of marijuana.
Hemp advocates (yes, there are hemp advocates out there) argue that the change would benefit the economy at a time when it could certainly use the boost.
“Hemp is a versatile, environmentally-friendly crop that has not been grown here for over 50 years because of a politicized interpretation of the nation’s drug laws by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA),” Eric Steenstra, president of Vermont-based Vote Hemp, said in a statement. “Jobs would be created overnight, as there are numerous U.S. companies that now have no choice but to import hemp materials valued at $360 million in annual retail sales and growing.”

HEMP WAS GROWN TO MAKE ROPE
I am for the beneficial use of hemp and the growing and harvesting it on Iowa soil once again. I can take you to farm land near my home where it was once grown as a cash crop. What happened? Government.
hemp
Rudolf Diesel, the inventor of the diesel engine, designed it to run on vegetable and seed oils like hemp; he actually ran the thing on peanut oil for the 1900 World's Fair. Henry Ford used hemp to not only construct cars but also fuel them.

Just to let you know, the link you are sending in your shouts for this story on Digg is not a correct link.

The link in your last shout is still not good.
This is the link that appears in my email: http://digg.com/d1?OTC-em-sh2
It goes to a Digg error screen.
However the link that I dugg this story from in your original shout looked like this: http://digg.com/political_opinion/Got_Hemp?OTC-em-sh2
that is how they censor me now after many of my posts went front
front page!.....for many this link still works...........I am tired of digg sh**t...
they removed many of my already popular posts withing 10 or 15 minutes of the post entering the popular section.
That link and shout is good and it is digg that fucks this up.

That link couldn't be good. It doesn't even have the title...
...of the story in it like the original one does...like they all do.
I had already dugg the story from your original shout link, but I saw this other one was different, without the title in the link.
So I clicked on it. It went to Digg error screen. It still does. It is not a good link.
Maybe you could just re-do the shout and fix the link.
P.S. Thank you for the video gift above. :)
I am a hemp advocate
I used to surf, and it wasn't the polluted water affecting surfers that motivated me to take on the Southern Regional Water Quality Control Board, but it was surfing with porpoise that had cancers... To make a long story short, I was asked by a few porpoise to do something.. so I did, I collected Beach trash for two years, which I collected enough evidence to make a case, which I won, and I was "awarded" $125K to put plaques which said, "Leads to ocean"... I realized that I had no victory because I did not know that I could have asked for reparation... So that got me thinking.. what would I have asked for? And I began a new search, which I found Help End Marijuana Prohibition in 1992..
To me, Propsosition 215 medical marijuana was counterproductive because ALL cannabis needs to be decriminalized. It's not the government's business unless there are sales, (which prop 215 does not provide...the first cannabis clubs, marijuana was free..
What worries me about the hemp bill coming out now with the legalization of marijuana I fear because the one plane is divided based on it's cultivation, and it's grassroots, so I see a civil war on drugs looming as marijuana growers attack hemp growers based on cross pollination of crops..
It's such a mess. Here in Northern CA, would have been the perfect place to grow hemp to replace lost lumber jos,.. north has the mills.. but it appears, the mills are closed, the marijuana is north and the south is going to get the hemp crops...but it's going to be very costly to ship those crops north, or perhaps better yet, there will have to be reindustrialization for hemp crops...
Besides the idiots who don't respect the Framers of the US Constitution penning the costitution on HEMP paper... there's a clue, eh? I have found the freedom of cannabis is the freedom for America.
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!

There is no real justification to outlaw the growing of hemp
-none. Hemp for textiles, biodegradable plastics, paper, medicine.... Of course this isn't a top-issue, but I can't see the harm in spreading information.
I respectfully disagree...it IS a top issue.
It is at the essence of liberty (not to mention the vast numbers we coalesce with by promoting it).

Vote for Liberty...Buy Silver Eagles.
You're right
-an assault on any aspect of liberty is an assault on liberty as a whole -it's all related. Growing hemp is conducive to sustainable living, making hemp illegal protects big pharm/business and leaves us more dependent on a corrupt system.
I read in a book once that
I read in a book once that that main road block to leagl hemp is the cotton industry. I think it was the emperor wears no cloths....

Irrelevent!
Out of all the things that are going on in the world right now, issues relating to hemp farming and marijuana legalization are about number 1753 on the list. It's a stupid distraction from the real work that needs to be done. It harms our "movement" and marginalizes our people making us look like a dull group of stoners. It's what killed the Libertarian Party.
YES! Pot should be legal (but it's not gonna be, because it's too profitable for the elites). But, in the hierarchy of problems, it's insignificant. It's embarrassing... seeing people railing against hemp laws, when fundamental rights like FREE SPEECH are under attack. It's like working for a Constitutional amendment to ban parking meters.
And yes, for all of you Neo-Hippie-wannabes... I've smoked enough pot to choke a hay-baler. But it's not a "key issue". Solve the larger problem and the freedom to grow hemp or smoke pot (or do anything else that doesn't create a victim) becomes moot. All you "wake and bakers", put the pipe down and FOCUS for a change.
PLEASE! Stop talking about pot and hemp for cryin' out loud! We have a Constitutional Republic to save.
ron paul is right and you're wrong
"All you "wake and bakers", put the pipe down"
you sound like a government anti-drug propaganda commercial.

End the War on Drugs
by Ron Paul | Texas Straight Talk
March 30, 2009
We have recently heard many shocking stories of brutal killings and ruthless violence related to drug cartels warring with Mexican and US officials. It is approaching the fever pitch of a full blown crisis. Unfortunately, the administration is not likely to waste this opportunity to further expand government. Hopefully, we can take a deep breath and look at history for the optimal way to deal with this dangerous situation, which is not unprecedented.

Stoners?
I thought this thread topic was about industrial hemp.
I've never smoked pot. So there is no pipe to put down on my end.
Not everyone who sees relevance of this topic is seeing it from a neo-hippie-wannabe pot head's perspective.
50 million marijuana legalization voters voted for Obama
believing that he will stop the war on drugs which is in fact the war on the people.
Who do they turn to now?
Ron Paul!!!

Agreed
Hemp is good, but it's not the rallying point.
Gary Patridge you may have a good point
but aren't they all bubbles in the same beer? Are things not coming to a head? The more bubbles the better? If we all could only agree on the one, two or three main points...I wish us good luck with that!___________________________________________________

You'd find more support
rallying aainst anti-Tobacco legislation... but still not enough.
errrr, let's see.... what's the thing that negatively effects us all?
Oh ya! TAXES! (to wage war on the world and micromanage everyone's behavior). might be something there...
Money. War. The Drug War. Poisons in foods.
There's quite a few I can think of that can rally more people than hemp. Hell, pot would rally way more people than hemp because it's a lot more honest. I mean seriously, do you really care if they grow hemp or do you want to legally smoke weed? I'd love weed to be legal, but I really couldn't see myself getting excited about hemp.

Ron Paul
would have won in Iowa if their farmers were fully informed of hemp benefits.
I drink beer..and pot is only like 7 times a year thing for me very rare but I want to free and expose.
Hemp can be the biggest cash crop ever for farmers.
Sorry I had a few beers so it is harder for me to work/put an effort finding the links....
cheers!
