St. Louis?
Will "we" ever ever ever have another event in that city/state? I hope not.

They are to be commended but he could have ended up dead. Remember the poor gal in Phoenix airport? The Phoenix TSA are real thugs. They are the real terrorists.

I'm shocked they didn't take the money and charge him with a suit of the "people vs. the money"...or maybe only the DEA and Customs can do that?

I think that a push
to eliminate the "immunity from prosecution/lawsuit" that these TSA and other Federal employees have to protect them, and adds to their arrogance and feelings of "being above the law".
They need to be fully exposed to any personal lawsuit or personal criminal charge that can be levied against them for their infractions.
Make it so that if they step a hair out of line, they go to jail, or are personally liable for a lawsuit that can make them homeless.
If that makes it so that nobody wants to do the job, GREAT!!!
Then they can GTFO and we can go on with our lives with one less abuse.
And we can also then get on with the task of putting these Federal goons behind bars where they belong.
kudos to Steve.... I quit
kudos to Steve....
I quit flying after 9/11, not because I was worried about "terrorists" but because I refused to have them violate me....
I won't be poked or prodded or have them tell me to take off my shoes or throw out some breast milk because it might contain some sort of liquid that would blow the plane up.....
give me a break....
I hear amtrak or greyhound will still get you where you want to go, lol, it might take awhile, but you will get there eventually

Why was carrying $4500 a big
Why was carrying $4500 a big deal to those people? It's none of their business as to why a person has a certain amount of money. This just keeps getting sicker all the time. Must we all carry recording devices from now on? I think so.

"Yes. The MIAC report was released to Missouri state troopers. TSA is a federal agency. It is unlikely they coordinate on that level."

Ever heard of the Fusion Centers (Feds (Homland Security) coordinating Federal, state and local law enforcement intelligence gathering.

"The MIAC protocol came down from Homeland Security."
Do you have evidence of this? That's great if you do. Please share it. It's something we all would need to know. The MIAC report wasn't terribly well edited, and looked more like an internal report for the state police than a polished report intended for hundreds of law enforcement agencies.
My point is this. Which of these two seems more likely:
1) There is a massive and coordinated effort by all levels of law enforcement to harass and humiliate libertarians and Ron Paul supporters, and everyone working in these levels is involved in the plan and, aside from the single Missouri report, are not relaying this information to the general public (despite a large number of law enforcement personnel who probably know Ron Paul supporters personally), or
2) A few thugs at TSA found a guy carrying a wad of cash and saw an opportunity to catch a drug trafficker and score some big points with their higher-ups, but gave up when he didn't flinch at the mention of the DEA and FBI.
Law enforcement officers in my experience are motivated by capturing the big criminal to impress their higher-ups and move up the chain of command, or at least get a raise. They will use this gestapo crap until they are reasonably convinced you are just a waste of their time. That's what I saw here, not a politically motivated detainment.
This leads me to a bigger point. There seem to be two groups of people who frequent this website. The first believes that the government is an immensely powerful and highly efficient machine that can do whatever it wants and will destroy anyone on a whim who gets in the way of its agenda.
The second believes that the government is a huge behemoth that is inefficient and slow to respond to changes, is a massive waste of resources and crushes people out of its pure incompetence and lack of ability to be fair and just.
I am a member of the 2nd group. From all of Ron Paul's writings, speeches and interviews I have seen, I believe he belongs to the 2nd group as well. In my opinion, members of the 1st group give the government a bit too much credit.
Notice they threaten asset forfeiture
The unconstitutional stealing (seizing assets) without a warrant. the one officer threatens Mr Beirfeldt with the fbi and dea, which is code for implying the money is drug dealing money.
Local police are using this foul idea (so called law) to steal from people all the time. First they steal the money, then you have to prove a negative ( IE that you are innocent, not that the government by law is supposed to prove you guilty before seizing property.
The government can ignore it's own rules whenever it wants, but heaven help you if you do not submit to goons in uniform.
This is not new behavior for the TSA....
Becky Akers over at LewRockwell.com has been writing stories about them and their Nazi tactics for years. Here is a link to some of her prior articles. I commend this young man for his courage and principle. Most of the sheep just bow and scrape and say "yes sir, yes sir, three bags full".

It's also behavior that's
It's also behavior that's not exclusive to the TSA.Most(not all) "law enforcement" treat people as though they are guilty. It's the same tactic that the military/government uses against other countries.Seeking to slay dragons,or consistently looking for crimes when there's no cause.

Next TSA Rule: No Recordings
I'm afraid the only outcome of this incident will be new TSA rules against any video or audio recordings of TSA procedures. They'll claim that this is what the bad guys will use to study and thwart the TSA "security" measures. Recording anything with the TSA will be severely punished. I'm surprised it's not that way already.
It's a rigged game folks. We can't win.

What I mean is that they're always going to change the rules in their favor. I really have no clue of any sequence of events that would make the TSA into a less frightening organization. For myself, I just avoid flying.
I'm rather certain that if the agents had discovered they were being recorded, they would have "confiscated" the phone and the money. It was a very gutsy move by Mr. Beirfeldt.
