It turned months ago if not sooner.
THINGS WILL NOT BE THE SAME EVER AGAIN!
What is hard for me to believe is that many here are acting like we were during the campaign. Planning and going to rallies, acting like we have a future doing all that.
Do you have your food storage up to speed? How about your garden starts? Guns & ammo? First aid kit? Bug out location? Water supply and power if the electricity goes off? Security team for your neighborhood etc. etc?
Do you think you don't have the means? I bet you do. Tell me your situation and I bet I can help or other good members here at DP can help with ideas to get people ready. Let's make this an Idea thread like the out of work thread.
It's time to face some hard facts that bring hard choices.
We are living off a corps of the society we all knew and grew up in. It can't and won't sustain us much longer. There is no other way it can go. If you are not prepared you and your family will be one of the starving hoards begging for government help, or stealing, or well just dying (which may come as a result of your stealing)...
Of course this thread will probably drop off with little if any responses. Or maybe I could post something about some TV pundit like Beck or Colbert, or about religion those are sure to get hundreds of responses.
Don't get me wrong I don't think we should stop doing some of the things we do like rallies etc. I just think many do not have thier priorities straight or are in denial even though they know about this...
I mean look at the ad above this post most of the time is about the Book Meltdown. It's not a novel folks, it's real and it's happening now and escalating quickly. Three years ago even hard core patriots would have laughed if told we would be where we are now in this economy and our corrupt government etc.
Wake up sleepy heads the hour is late and things will be popping soon!

It would be a shame if you get all worked up to go down fighting, but you have no gas to get to the fight, you have no water, and you have no food, and you die from dehydration, the elements, or starvation, the very day before the fight comes to you.

I'm starting to rethink all of the prepping
and seriously consider bugging out of this country. We are starting to look into job prospects in some other countries.

Best Buy had an offer I couldn't refuse on a HDTV so I took it.
I have been eyeballing that tax incentive for buying a new car as well....
Maybe after all that I might stock up...better yet, If I put it on my credit card it will free up more capital for other stuff

Getting prepared is one thing, but living like a huckleberry out in the woods and what not?
All the ammo, guns, and food isn't going to save you from the collapse of this country.
The corpse as you put it is still a corpse and living out in the wilderness isn't going to bring it back.
What do you think people are going to do -- go to tea parties and tell people about Ron Paul and the Fed when we are living in a UN run 3rd world?

Hawkiye: Thanks for the info and ideas. I can honestly tell you that I have not been able to get anything ready and while I have the general ideas of what I need to do it would help to have some insight from those that have already gotten their own ball rolling. Forgive my ignorance here, but where would be a good source for information on what to prepare, have on hand, etc. All help in appreciated.

I'm semi-prepared ...
I mean, I've got about 6 months of food, I've purchased an atmospheric water generator and I bought my ammo months ago, lots of it! What I need to get is my solar generator and some solar panels. I still need to buy more paper goods. BUT, my family isn't listening!! That worries me.
I'm single and am doing a great job of caring for myself, but when the you-know-what hits the fan I want to be w/my family and I haven't got enough for everybody. To tell the truth, I don't know how I will handle it if they start suffering. I work hard all the time to try to get them to wake up, but it's hard going. W/the G20 and their call of the NWO tonight, plus the Obama Deception and all the great info that is just flowing on the Internet, hope springs eternal for me and I will try "til I die to wake them up!
I don't think I'll ever be 'ready' but I am prepared more than I
was, and better than most.
Money is really tight, so my preps have shifted to skills in the garden and behind the trigger. I've already got the 'camping' skills down. I still have lots of harder core survival skills to brush up on though.
Best case scenario, I hope for enough time to finish any acquisitions I need to shelter in place and ride out the storm in relative comfort. (a level I require which is WAY below the average Joe anyway) And I've been having to divest of my silver and gold over the year against my wishes due to circumstances. I hope to reverse that trend soon.

I am not prepared!
I have a few things stored up but not enough.
I have a big back yard (north of Oklahoma City) that I wish I could get someone to come do a big garden and just share some of the produce with me. I am not able to get out there with the tiller and do it myself.
As far as wasteful spending, I have little or none. I ate out for lunch this week for the first time in months. My job barely covers the bills and I only have 1 credit card, my house payment (only 1 month behind now) and utilities to pay.
Can't do away with high speed internet as I work from home and have to have it in order to keep my job. The biggest waste I have is cigarettes and now I will have to give that up thanks to the tax hikes there. What you see there is a 50% tax hike. Wow, isn't that nice?!
I buy groceries every 3 weeks and do buy an extra can of coffee every time along with a few extra canned items. That isn't going to get me very far when tshtf though.

I agree that this thing is set in motion. I think we all have to face up to the fact that things are NEVER GOING TO BE THE WAY THEY WERE again. Once you get over mourning the past...... start looking at the future as a whole new adventure. It is going to be as if we have landed on another planet, and if we are mentally FLEXIBLE it will certainly help us.
I have often said that many, many people of the under 45 crowd have NEVER lived through ANY hard times and it is going to be psychologically impossible for them to adapt to the new world that we are going to be entering. I think there will be a lot of suicides and divorces as people simply cannot cope with the changing landscape.
We, at this site are so fortunate to have had the time and the opportunity to get our supplies stocked up, AND our minds prepared for the coming crisis. Physical preparation, flexibility of outlook, optimism and hope for a brighter future are all going to be important in coming years. Onward troops!
AND.....never stop TEACHING.... after two years of thinking I was crazy I FINALLY got my Dad to buy some gold yesterday. He isn't entirely on-board with everything yet..... but at least he won't be penniless!

Check your SEMA and State Laws
Missouri has a Hoarding Law which allows law-enforcement/DHS to "check" your food supplies to make sure you don't have too much. If your state has these laws - (well, A: find some legislators to repeal the laws) - but find places to hide food as well.
I just about wrote some good disguises for basements, probably shouldn't.

I have the skills and knowledge to survive in the wild if need be. Hell, I used to do it for kicks and to get away from it all.
Have you driven around this country at all? This is a big effin place man! There is PLENTY place to hide. Do you have any idea at all just how BIG Texas is? Maps can fool you. I know most of the western states don't look all that big on a map - man they are friggin HUGE! No way even an entire army will find me out there. No way. Satellites and heat signatures be damned.
There aren't enough people on the planet to subdue this continent. And I doubt one in a million could find me if I don't want to be found.
I'm not into 'luxuries' like electricity and plumbing. I can survive with out them. Sure I'd 'prefer' if I didn't have to, but I can and it won't bother me a bit.
I have over the years so arranged my affairs that I don't need much and I am not tied to 'stuff.' And I'm still relatively young. Sure, I have stuff I'd rather not lose or forsake, but if it means death or slavery - it is just STUFF.
I do have a large family - but I'm not married and no kids. I'd rather kick it here close to home so I can be with family, but if they decide to fold to the PTB, or they don't make it - I'm out of here - to wherever I need to be to survive.
