FTA.......
The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 introduced in the Senate would allow the president to shut down private Internet networks. The legislation also calls for the government to have the authority to demand security data from private networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule or policy restricting such access.

he might be the president,
he might be the president, but he's only the president inside the states.
outside the states, he's JAFO.

As soon as we possibly can we need to squash this thing. I'm with you.
Limited by the internet? Not the FSP...
The activists in the Free State Project aren't limited by the internet, should it ever be shut down. Not only do we have weekly meetings across the state, but we also have a phone message distribution system that sends recordings to each subscriber's phone. And despite the community of Free Staters currently being over 700 strong, we all basically know, or at least know of, each other because we're so incredibly social.
The activist society you seek already exists. Join us.

Check the hegelian play
The CDT's Nojeim stressed that are a "number of good things in the bill," including creation of a cyber-security czar, scholarships for cyber-security programs and collaborations between the government and the private sector. While urging Congress to change the bill, he argued that the "problematic provisions shouldn't crowd out the beneficial provisions of the bill."
They are taking the other side of the argument where they want it to go.

I've asked these questions before
What will you do when the shut down the internet? Do we have any other form of organization? Communication? Would we know each other if we passed on the street? Do you even know who your neighbors are? Can you trust them? What if they also take your phones? What if the electricity goes down altogether? Are you an 'army of one'?

Great Idea
A "Ron Paul" group in Northern Nevada recently had a meeting about this and I think the idea is growing. With a portable unit, you can even be mobile. My husband has his licenses and is enjoying it so much. The new tests don't require Morse Code and he is now encouraging me to get at least my basic/tech license, too.

"cyber attack"? hmmm
"...would create a new Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor, reportable directly to the president and charged with defending the country from cyber attack."
Do I see a false flag attack on the horizon?
Also this quote makes a good point: "...if my bank were taken offline, I would think about going into my branch and asking for all of my deposits in cash."
As people become more electronically dependent, the shutting down of the internet would be somewhat of an emergency in itself, I'd think.
Thanks Sentinel for this link
If your bank were taken offline
you would be too late to get your cash. You better go now.

make sure we all go to print, and passing it around. We don't need a computer to wake everyone up, we can do it Paul Revere style.

Well, saw this coming. If the internet is down, we have no communication.
This is how they plan on enforcing content restriction
As a systems administrator and VP of Engineering for a internet company for over six years, this bill makes it very clear. They will use force to put more restrictions on ISP's content and internet viewer content, or else they will tell AT&T or ARIN to shut off your BGP feed.
Any ISP who did not comply would be out of business within a week. So for the sake of keeping the doors open, this is really a china-like control system in my opinion. If there is content out there they do not like that is against the government's opinion, it will be yanked.
This will remove freedom of speech from the internet by controlling ISP's, not the consumers directly.
This type of legislation could be directed towards anyone or any website spreading the word about Obama's unvalidated birth certificate to quell public support or just outright ban it.
It seems we will be calling him comrade Obama in a short period of time if he gets his way.
