3 police killed during a standoff in Pittsburgh - update

Here is the UPI Story

Local news is saying that the guy had an AK-47, A Long Rifle, and a Pistol.

Police were called as part of a domestic dispute, though some are saying that they were also going to issue a warrant.

Someone else claimed he was a gun rights activist.

Details are still sketchy

Update - The police have had a news conference, and cleared up a few things. First, The shooter was waiting for the police, and shot them as they knocked on the door. Not clear which gun he used, but any would have worked. The third Officer was coming to their aid when he was shot. Swat arrived later, and it was then he apparently held them at bay with his AK.

Also, the police apparently knew something about the guns prior to going to the house, since it was part of the subject of the call. He had apparently been out Drinking friday night late, and got into a fight with his mother. She apparently told police something about the guns he had, though it is not clear exactly what.

The police have not mentioned anything about his profile, other than they had been called to the house before. The press on the other hand is going wild with it . This is big in Pittsburgh, since there has not been an officer killed since 1995, and 1983 before that.

My speculation is that he and his mom were fighting, since he was still a little drunk from the night before. She called the police, and told them he was threatening with guns, or maybe told them he had illegal guns, whci set him off, and convinced him he had to defend his rights - he apparently told a friend he was going to die today.

This is all a shame for many reasons.

Update II - IT WAS DOG PISS. Here is the latest explanation. http://news.google.com/news?um=1&ned=us&hl=en&q=dog++poplawski

This is unbelievable.

So, we have

a case of a mother/son domestic argument over "dog piss" and ending in tragedy, being spun by the SPLC and the news media as "right wing paramilitary nut case who supports people like Ron Paul, and that the MIAC report was right", and so on.

These news people and commie activists can really make up some shit.
And then they actually print it.
There is no limit to their evil.

This guy is a real sicko with an IQ of about 75. His mother must be a real jewel, too, for raising such a monster. He's a real creep and I hope he gets what he deserves. His friend was interviewed and he kept saying how this guy was concerned about losing his rights, blah, blah, blah. Why do we have such crazies giving the cause of liberty such a bad name?

"Margaret Poplawski told police her son had enlisted in the Marine Corps a few years ago, but was discharged for assaulting his drill sergeant in basic training, according to the complaint. Since his discharge, she told police, he had been "stockpiling guns and ammunition, buying and selling the weapons online, because he believed that as a result of the economic collapse, the police were no longer able to protect society. Mrs. Poplawski reported that her son only liked police when they were not curtailing his constitutional rights, which he was determined to protect," the complaint said."

His mom was mad about his dog, and wanted to kick him out. It was apparently his ex-GF that had previously told Cops about his GUns, and apparently embellished the story.

Something is fishy about this story.

Why were they going to issue him a warrant if his mom called the cops about the dog? And I just don't believe that they simply walked in the door and he started shooting. I hope we will be able to hear his version of the story. I'm just suspicious about the media reports. I don't think we have all the facts yet.

The headline on Drudge

says, "Pittsburgh Cop Killer Feared Obama Gun Ban". We are to believe that that is the crux of the story, and that everyone who believes that more gun control is on the way is to be feared and reported.

that bugs the hell out of me

I am pretty much 100% convinced that an Obama gun ban is on the way. But it doesn't make me want to kill anyone. I don't know a single person who owns guns who feels like killing someone out of fear that a gun ban could be on the way. In fact, every responsible gun owner I know will go out of their way to avoid any violent acts, with or without guns, out of fear of what it would do to their gun rights.

But the media wants everyone to believe that those of us who love our guns, only want to kill. If gun owners wanted to kill over fear of gun bans, it would have been done a long time ago. This kid obviously had problems, and I'm sure alcohol that night did not help things. The fact that he feared a gun ban, the fact that he owned these guns, has nothing to do with why he did this. I fear Obama's actions, and I own guns. It's certainly not a reason for me to harm anyone.

It is difficult to find one of these robots who were not on some sort of LEGAL psychotic drug. Oh, remember the chimp that went bonkers a few weeks ago? The owner admitted that this was the first time that she had put a XANAX in his hot tea (so they could share her delusions, I suppose).

BOW TO BIG PHARMA, you peasants! Here's your new 2nd amendment:

" A well medicated militia, necessary for insecurity and a make-believe free state, the right of the drug pushers to prick the bare arms shall not be infringed."

Orcinus...thats the guys blog name. whatever that means... something about a whale and his favorite part of the orca probably. His real name is David Neiwert...

Anyhow... this article on Post-Gazette does nothing to harm the Alex Jones or Ron Paul followers... it just shows how messed up this guy was.

What you say... a crazy person who can't deal with the real world... because when you get in to the Alex Jones stuff that is what you are facing... the real world.

Anyhow... Everyone should post on Orcanus' blog and ring his ears off with liberty.

David Neiwert is a Seattle-based freelance journalist and blogger. He received the National Press Club Award for Distinguished Online Journalism in 2000 for a domestic terrorism series he produced for MSNBC.com.[1]
Neiwert was raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and attended the University of Idaho, where he obtained his B.A. in English (1984), as well as the University of Montana (1987-88), where he studied creative writing. He worked at newspapers around the Pacific Northwest from 1978-1996, notably in Idaho (at Sandpoint, Blackfoot, Lewiston, Moscow, and Twin Falls); Missoula, Montana; and western Washington (Kent, Bellevue, and Seattle). He went to work at MSNBC.com in 1996 as a writer-producer, and continued there through late 2000. Since then, he has focused on writing books and producing his blog Orcinus, which tends to report on the crossover between the mainstream and the far right. The blog won early recognition in the liberal blogosphere in the form of consecutive Koufax Awards for Best Series in 2003 and 2004.[citation needed] The Northwest Progressive Institute named its annual awards to the region's best liberal bloggers after Neiwert. [2]
He has been married since 1989 to Lisa Dowling of Helena, Montana. They live together in Seattle with their daughter, Fiona, born in 2001.

ironman77 you do realize that

the details of your post mirror some of mentality being expounded here at dailypaul.com ? The fringe here do not have a clue that their posts are not defending the 2nd Amendment Rights, but loose them.

If you ask me, I don't think anyone should have a gun (excepting me).

If you were

the only person with a gun, what would you do with it?

"It's just one big club... and WE ain't in it!"

This article states he was into

conspiracy theories and listened to Alex Jones.

From the article:

Mr. Poplawski's view of guns and personal freedom took a turn toward the fringes of American politics. With Mr. Perkovic, he appeared to share a belief that the government was controlled from unseen forces, that troops were being shipped home from the Mideast to police the citizenry here, and that Jews secretly ran the country.

"We recently discovered that 30 states had declared sovereignty," said Mr. Perkovic, who lives in Lawrenceville. "One of his concerns was why were these major events in America not being reported to the public."

Believing most media were covering up important events, Mr. Poplawski turned to a far-right conspiracy Web site run by Alex Jones, a self-described documentarian with roots going back to the extremist militia movement of the early 1990s.

Around the same time, he joined Florida-based Stormfront, which has long been a clearinghouse Web site for far-right groups. He posted photographs of his tattoo, an eagle spread across his chest.

"I was considering gettin' life runes on the outside of my calfs," he wrote. Life runes are a common symbol among white supremacists, notably followers of The National Alliance, a neo-Nazi group linked to an array of violent organizations.

"For some time now there has been a pretty good connection between being sucked into this conspiracy world and propagating violence," said Heidi Beirich, director of research at the Southern Poverty Law Center and an expert on political extremists. She called Mr. Poplawski's act, "a classic example of what happens when you start buying all this conspiracy stuff."

Heidi Beirich and conspiracies

The fact of the matter is that he was right - they WERE coming to take his guns. This is just a sample of what's coming when the government attempts to disarm America. These incidences will become more and more frequent which will lead to even more restrictions and bans, which will lead to more incidences, and eventually send the whole country spiraling into chaos.
The cops would have been better off waiting for the guy to go to mow the lawn or something and arresting him there.

Deja Vu - "Assault Weapons Ban"

3 Pittsburgh Police Officers killed by man with AK-47

Doomed SWAT sergeants didn't expect an AK-47

First off, the media is lying. Most all of these stories claim the cops were killed with "Assault Rifles." However, assault rifles are full automatic weapons, or machine guns. President Ronald Reagan banned U.S. citizens from owning any new full automatic arms in 1986. President Reagan was clearly a lying Neo Conservative.

The rifles used in these shootings were normal semi-automatic rifles that look similar to a full automatic AK-47, but are not.

Second, it's clear that the way gun crimes are being reported in the media right now is to build support for Obama for re-introducing the "Assault Weapons Ban:"

Editorial: Renew U.S. ban on assault weapons

"For starters, Congress must bring back the national ban on 19 types of military-style weapons it enacted in 1994, with the leadership of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, but allowed to expire."

Obama wants to disarm the American people.

Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons Ban

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

calling the police was a stupid decision

I'm sure this could have been handled without 3 cops ending up dead. Maybe police will be more cautious when they interact with citizens. More peaceful. Probably not though.

a friend

of mine last year was a cop and he was drinking with some MS13 members along with some other cops. When the gang members pulled out a gun and started shooting and killed one of the cops. The other cops were not armed and ran from the scene, He is no longer a cop now.

I live in Pittsburgh, only a few miles from where this happened

...and the local media coverage is absolutely infuriating! Every article sees the need to mention that the shooter "was afraid Obama would take his guns" and that he "voted for John McCain." It's completely irrelevant to the shooter's motives and the only reason why they are mentioning it is to make gun owners and any defender of the Second Amendment seem like violent, irresponsible nutjobs. The people exploiting this incident to further their own political beliefs are no worse than the Westboro Baptist Church Fools who use tragedies to spread their message.

Ditto that - This kid was a jerk period - He was just a bag of

anger looking for a fight. He got busted for beating and stalking a girl friend.

Wackjobs like him justify mental health checks for gun owners but that's a whole other bag of controversy.

The MSM is totaling up ALL of the gun violence over the last few weeks and the case is building for 'mob rule' against gun owners.

I can't wait to see how this one plays out.

I don't agree.

from 1999 to 2005

310,000 motor vehicle related deaths

200,000 firearm related deaths

those numbers are from the CDC. i don't like people being senselessly killed, but we accept those numbers as life with liberty.

3 cops came and knocked nicely and he shot them?

This is the most pathetic story I ever heard.

People drink all the time, you don't think cops drink?

So he went out for a drink and probably his mom got all over his case because he lost his job and decided she wanted to kick him out since he's just a "23 year old loser who just parties and leeches off of her." She's going to make him sorry this time.

*Bang *Bang *Bang... Cops hit the barricaded door with weapons drawn (remember they know he is armed).

The cops threaten that he better give up now or it's going to be real bad for him later probably saying something like, "Listen up you litte shit -- you better lay down on the ground by the count of 3 with your hands on the floor or we're going to break this door down and shoot you!"

He gives them a warning that he's not coming out and to leave him alone. Now either the cops decided to shoot first or they start busting down the door.

The 23 year guy now has to defend himself from multiple police officers in body armor, but because he's not a lard ass loser he has better aim and takes them out.

More cops arrive and now it's just on and he's holding off a whole swat team -- sometime during which he is hit and makes a call to his friend and tells him he's going to die.

Dude defends his house some and scares the SHIT out of the cops so much they decide not to kill him like most cops kill when someone shoots at them.

They get a negotiator to come out and try talking to him -- you know what they should have done in the FIRST place instead of play thug-rambo.

Guy's feeling woosey from loss of blood and decides he wants to give up -- in fact he always wanted to give up but they never really gave him the chance to do it with dignity.

Cops take him into custody and probably elbow and bash his head before they handcuff him and he eventually gets medical attention -- just like they do 90% of the time when they take someone into custody.

Police Brutality Forces Pittsburgh
to Start Monitoring PD

Two women said police beat them when they stopped to watch officers beat a man. A disabled woman said police strip-searched her at a traffic stop while her children watched. A Baptist minister said he was wrongly beaten and arrested while listening to gospel music at home. Last year, the American Civil Liberties Union sued the city, and then the Justice Department's civil rights division got involved, concluding that the Police Department had condoned police brutality since the mid-1980s.

Why don't we have laws like the europeans do, we are so backward.

One guy actually said - Our founders didn't mean for people to have assault rifles.

So how can blackwater have assault rifles, grenades, RPGs 50 cals etc ? ?

We Were Intended to Have "Arms" -- Modern Military Arms.

Arms are tools nothing else, but tools of power.

When the people are armed, the people have real power.

It just so happens that a modern military arm at the time the country was founded, was a single shot rifle.

But in this day and age, a single shot blackpowder rifle could hardly be considered an effective Arm.
