Spartanburg County - Only County in US to Sponsor 2nd Event with Ron Paul??

0 votes

I will be voting in my county republican convention this evening. My current chairman, Rick Beltram (who's running for county AND state chair), sent me a letter with some of his ideologies listed. Can anyone out there verify or debunk his statement regarding Ron Paul:

"PHILOSOPHY AND INCLUSION: Our precincts present Resolutions and we encourage open and free thought for additional Resolutions during the year. We had over 50 GOP Presidential Candidate visits prior to the past Presidential Primary. We were the only County GOP [Spartanburg County, SC] in the USA that sponsored two events for Dr. Ron Paul. However, as party leaders we must support the nominees of the GOP...."

I realize he is trying to assuage the RP crowd here (not working) and I find it very hard to believe that as much as party folks "fought off" RP here, that we were the ONLY county GOP to "sponsor" a second event. Surely other counties across the country had him return more than once. Is the chairman splitting hairs regarding "sponsored"?

I'm a newbie committeeman and I could already write a huge essay on my experience with the county GOP so far and I've only been "in" one month. I think I am beginning to understand on a very personal level, Dr. P's frustration with the Republican party and I am very uncomfortable. Perhaps I should write a book about my experiences and title it "How to Survive the Republican Party".

Can anyone help to verify or debunk Rick Beltram's statement?

he probably meant the only

he probably meant the only county in SC to have Dr. Paul twice...but it is possible that is true for all the states.

does he have an opponent? you can always abstain from voting. that is what i do when i do not have enough information to make an informed decision.

I would refer you to this article from 2007..

It specifically states that Beltram would shun Ron Paul from the county Party activities because of not supporting the "official line" about 9/11 and the "need for the Iraq war".

Here's another article from later in the year, after RP did make some appearances at Spartanburg, with Beltram making that "claim" of being the only county party to have 2 appearances, but the reporter for this article could not verify that they were the only ones.

http://goupstate.us/index.php/2009/03/20/floyd-hall-and-belt...

In both of these articles, Beltram makes it VERY CLEAR that he does not like Ron Paul, and is no supporter. Beltram is a NEOCON warmonger.

And here's a VERY INTERESTING article about Beltram and the SC straw poll.

And I quote:
"Now curiously, a quick search for Spartanburg County Republican Party Chairman Rick Beltram turned up a question of ballot box stuffing:

The Spartanburg County Republican Party had its annual meeting recently, and held a presidential straw poll (March 2, 2007). The results were posted on CNN:

The important results were these:

Arizona Sen. John McCain: 164
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani: 162
California Rep. Duncan Hunter: 158
Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback: 85

But here is the kicker: McCain was initially reported by Mr. Beltran as having only 114 votes, putting him in fourth place. Everyone else's vote totals were the same as currently reported by CNN at the time. Then, Beltran said the numbers got switched and it should have been 141 votes, still leaving McCain in fourth place.

Then it became 164 votes the next morning. Poof! A first place win for John McCain! Proving it ain't over till they say its over, and that some votes count more than others. [Perhaps he originally meant 164 instead of 114. A single digit transposition, though a strange one to get wrong. Written, it is a little hard to see missing a difference between a 1 and a 6. As a counting error it represents a 50 fold difference. Spoken, one hundred fourteen sounds vastly different than one hundred sixty-four. But I wasn't there. I do not know by what process the vote was taken, tallied and reported to the assembly. I don't know how good is Mr. Beltran's eyesight or hearing. I just know a straw poll is a bit of fun for the activists who have sweated for the cause, actually care enough to show up to conventions and meetings and ought to be given more respect than this demonstrates, IMHO.]

So Ron Paul, welcome to South Carolina politics."

BigT I'm feeling the love for you right now

BigT I'm feeling the love for you right now. I am about to spaz. I feel like showing up with a huge sandwich sign that says "Authentic Republican". You know when you get so miffed you want to cry? Well it's been that way since the last GOP meeting last Tuesday. This is when I learned that "we" (RP supporters at county meeting 11/07) scared the living daylights out of a room full of "Swamp Foxes" by "wooting" for Ron Paul when he spoke. Pfft. Since last Tuesday, I've been on the verge of tears for my state, my country, my universe. Now I see a blog from a Beltram sorta-kinda supporter/GOP Treasurer that says "I suggest that all delegates to the County Convention bring a bulletproof vest and a helmet Tuesday, they’ll need it so as not to become collateral damage." http://www.upstateupdate.com/blog/2009/04/02/bill-bill-and-m...

Halp. I need another bumper sticker.
This about sums it up: Angry Mother.

damn. i doubt even Mr Beltram can confirm that for you

even if its true i believe its impossible for your GOP chairman to confirm.
theres more than 3000 counties in the US. id love to learn how he pulled that out.
