Response from an Obama Supporter

0 votes

A friend of mine forwarded Ron Paul's latest "Texas Straight Talk" to a friend of his. Here is the response he received. I'd like to know how you would respond to comments like this.

"ok i read this email too. i even readf some of the blogging at the bottom of page. i think all you ron paul people just aren't gonna be happy with anything. Y'all need to shut up for a minute and just listen to a few facts because I saw alot of misrepresented facts in the ron paul blog. somebody even compared barack obama's and george bush's policies as if from the same idealogy or something. Like i say, sure, ron paul is all too willing to cry foul, but our new leaders are trying. i have yet to hear of any realistic policies out of ron paul or any of his followers. just a buncha perfect-world no-discrepancy theoretical bullshit. this is why he got, i think like maybe 3or 4 votes, and Obama won. yeah people are sick of bush's america, but the people with nothing productive to offer need to get out of the way for those that do, for those of us that are willing to sacrifice a little for the good of everyone. all these ron paul arguments are so one-sided, jeez. maybe y'all should hail rush limbaugh as the new head of complaint department for the independent party. just as much an extremist "

I think the important thing to take away from that is...

the following passage:

yeah people are sick of bush's america, but the people with nothing productive to offer need to get out of the way for those that do, for those of us that are willing to sacrifice a little for the good of everyone.

I would happily get out of the way for those who wish to 'sacrifice a little for the good of everyone,' in fact I do so all the time, but that's not what he wants. He wants me to shut up, and do what I'm told. That is something I will not do. I will not 'get out of the way for' an individual like him. I will not roll over and let someone, who spells ideology as "idealogy," lacks the ability to distinguish between "3or 4 votes" and 41,905 votes, and could not punctuate a sentence to save his life define the 'good of everyone' and force me to 'sacrifice' for it.

awesome

nothing could be easier than to insult this retard and point out his shortcomings by publicly humiliating him. I am being successful at it quite often :)

Wow...

it's as if I've been thrown back in time to 2005 after W. got elected. The blatant hypocrisy and ignorance is blinding in this person's response.

He's obviously locked into the Hegelian Dialectic ...

and we all need to understand it a bit more. Just to quote a little something about it: http://nord.twu.net/acl/dialectic.html

"The ultimate Third Way agenda is world government. Once we get what's really going on, we can cut the strings and move our lives in original directions outside the confines of the dialectical madness. Focusing on Hegel's and Engel's ultimate agenda, and avoiding getting caught up in their impenetrable theories of social evolution, gives us the opportunity to think and act our way toward freedom, justice, and genuine liberty for all.

Today the dialectic is active in every political issue that encourages taking sides. We can see it in environmentalists instigating conflicts against private property owners, in democrats against republicans, in greens against libertarians, in communists against socialists, in neo-cons against traditional conservatives, in community activists against individuals, in pro-choice versus pro-life, in Christians against Muslims, in isolationists versus interventionists, in peace activists against war hawks.

No matter what the issue, the invisible dialectic aims to control both the conflict and the resolution of differences, and leads everyone involved into a new cycle of conflicts. We're definitely not in Kansas anymore."

I would say...

Well, I'm listening, still waiting for a few facts. You didn't give me one fact about anything. Also, about that "productive" remark. Laborers, carpenters, plumbers, masons, merchants, farmers, ranchers, etc. produce. Obama and his followers simply take from someone who produced to give to someone who doesn't. I'd just like to know what "ya'll have sacrificed lately for the good of Ron Paul supporters, other than our liberty, of course. Ron Paul has alot of good productive ideas to offer, but they would require "ya'll to maybe take some responsibility for yourselves instead of waiting for the gubament to save ya'll.

"somebody even compared

you're new to this aren't you

well don't worry, over time, you'll get better.

and by far, the most effective way to challenge someone's beliefs is face to face.

the comments are pretty stupid. face to face, a person doesn't get to utter 20 or 30 lines of unbroken nonsense, without me interrupting and asking for a clarification.

the more they stick to logic and facts, the less I'll interrupt them. Even if their facts are skewed or wrong, I'll still let them talk.

those comments aren't worthy of the trash....and face to face, they're not going to get past sentence number 2, with that garbage.

I won't even bother listening to it, they can talk to themselves for all I care.

I have a hundred other people, be they liberal, independant, or conservative who will engage in an intellectually stimulating conversation.

your friend is an idiot.

You can't reach idiots like

You can't reach idiots like that because they can't even think for themselves. I have luck just by explaining our money system. Most people don't realize that our money is counterfeited into existence by a select group of people that charge interest for doing NOTHING. I ask them damn wouldn't You like that GIG and most people would agree... Now when they realize the real reason prices keep going up is because of the bankers expanding the money supply above GDP growth then it gets the ball rolling. Most people have heard the saying from their grandmother about a coke being a nickel and then You let them know why ..... Now when they realize this then You let them know how the media lies and blames inflation on the oil companies and crap .... The rabbit hole is truelly deep but if You give them the carrot they will follow if they are smart.

Oops, we're headed toward the cliff!

The fundamental problem with people's understanding

is that they expect the government to come up with solutions. The answer to "What SHOULD the government do?" Can't be "Nothing" or "As little as possible" for them. They believe, in fact have been conditioned, that the government must provide solutions. I believe the only way this is going to change is over the long term. We need to get our message into the school system and to the younger people, teenagers and those just entering college.

I haven't convinced anyone

I haven't convinced anyone of anything by just forwarding them a few Ron Paul comments. What you have to do is first introduce concepts of the free market and non-interventionist foreign policy to them yourself- and eventually when they come on board and start asking questions like "Damn is everyone in the government corrupt?" , then you can start to introduce them to Ron Paul and everything else. That's the only way I've found to reach people that never thought there was a problem in how government operates.

Ron Paul made sense to a lot of us right away because we already disagreed with at least one government policy- but not everyone shares that same drive for truth right away.

right

Its good to have Ron's ideas, but to forward them directly to soeone who isn't ready is not always good. people who don't know the message's perfect sense have been trained to hear the name ron paul and associate it with crazy ideas that cant work in reality... if it is your friend, you have to build the relationship and introduce the ideas through your own words. (ron paul is a good name and it rolls off the tongue so well that you get tempted to go around "ronpauling" and not enough actual discussing.)
"Be always sure you're right, then go ahead."

Ask questions instead of making statements.

That's the only way shake people's faith in bogus ideas. Take them to their logical conclusion.

As Libertarians we all have objections to the status quo. If we are talking to someone who is huge cheerleader for the status quo, our questions have to be aimed squarely at the yawning chasms in their knowledge.

Play dumb. Treat the ignorant as the font of all knowledge. Ask questions accordingly.

Q. Is the free market responsible for our current financial crisis?
A. Oh, definitely. We need more government regulation of financial markets.
Q. I see. I'm confused though. If we have a free market system, how does the Fed set interest rates?
A. What do you mean?
Q. It said on the news the other day that the Fed had lowered interest rates. How does that work? I thought we had a free market?
A. *WTF?*
Q. I also wondered about the "open market operations" conducted by the Fed. I think it involves buying and selling government debt. Can you explain those to me? I'm a bit ignorant about economics and that makes me a little paranoid. Please put my mind at rest.
A. *WTF?*
Q. How about the Constitution where it says...

You get the picture, right?

I agree

ask intelligent questions and force him to think.
Ask how is Obama any better than Bush and be ready to counter on the wars, finance, and loss of liberty.

thankfully we only need like 6 to 8% to get the ball rolling. don't waste your time on the really thick ones. talk only of the Constitution, the bill of rights and the ideas expressed by the declaration of independance.
don't get mixed up in politics or any current events.
if you can get them to find out what our founding documents actually say, cognitive dissonance will take care of the rest.
once we get the ball rolling, the sunshine patriots will emerge enmass.

Thick sculled

Until recently (4 months ago), I was a thick sculled, rah-rah Bush (Fox News) supporter. If can figure things out, so can some Obamamania people. I am very stubborn is some of my opinons. It's to bad my sister is one those Obama loonies. Now she thinks I have gone off the deep end. I just smile when she says that.

I will give Fox News/Rush Limbaugh some credit. I feel like they do tell part of the story, enough to lead you part way to Ron Paul. But, their business is entertainment as well, so they won't tell the whole story.

Nice

How did you get from Limbaugh to Daily Paul? Have you signed up on Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty yet? http://www.campaignforliberty.com/

There's some great responses here

I can't offer anything better. The only observation I make is when a person just hurls accusations but is not open to positive dialog and debate, then they are not worth spending time on. No matter what you say, they have their mind made up. They are right and you are wrong. Some people just have to be right.

Only this is planting seeds and that means that down the road there may be a wonderful tree of liberty where once there was weeds. Right now they are a weed, but when the s..t hits the fan, they may be a tree because of your fertilizer.

This person has been

This person has been watching too much TV. He thinks the government is his daddy. He doesn't realize that he is a virtual slave to his government. He has no idea what freedom really means. It would be a serious waste of time to try and educate him right now.

Maybe someday, something will hit him, and he will then realize how mistaken he was. He will be embarrassed of course for his part in the dumbing down of America. But like I am today, he will be thankful and proud that he was able to finally recognize what freedom stands for.

My reply would be:

"Y'all need to shut up for a minute and just listen to a few facts because I saw alot of misrepresented facts in the ron paul blog"
SUCH AS? -- I can almost guarantee they will not be able to give examples, at least not with support. So ask them for resources to back up their opinoion. (I doubt they will respond at all because they would have to think)

"somebody even compared barack obama's and george bush's policies as if from the same idealogy or something"
EXACTLY! Make sure they know that it is not just "somebody", it is everyone involved in the Freedom Movement that thinks that. Challenge them to show a significant difference in policy - even in philosophy. Again, they won't be able to find any. Let them know that Dr. Paul's book is very clear about that and maybe even copy a few pages for them to read.

And finally: "maybe y'all should hail rush limbaugh as the new head of complaint department for the independent party. just as much an extremist."

"Truth is treason in the empire of lies" And with a little "Thank you for being a Nazi brownshirt and associating me with a propaganda agent" thrown in.

Ignorance is Bliss, alternatively

I am about through with people like that. I sit and wait, helping/informing those who will listen or at least question the world around them. I will help those who care enough to ask, research, pay attention. As for the rest, screw'em. It has been a long 3 years for me and I don't have the patience. The oblivious deserve everything they got coming to them. They had fair warning and ample opportunity to SEE but they CHOSE not to because it wasn't happy or PC.... ughhhhh ....smh........ again, Ignorance is ...........

ya, the last couple months I have been mad at myself.

Then I realized, it's not my job to save them all. lol ... just the ones I care about. Then hopefully they help the ones they care about and so on .... fingers crossed.

This person...

obviously has NO clue what he is talking about and voted for the cult of personality.

And yes, Obama's policies are EXACTLY like Bush's when it comes to our military presence overseas because HE DOESN'T MAKE THE POLICY, he just follows it. You don't hear of anyone complaining about his ramping up the presence or continuing the war in yet one more country.

People are fooled into thinking that somehow the policies are different via the perception that is promoted.. and if they don't look beyond the perception, they have no idea.

"Perception is the Key" is a good saying to remember. But perception is not always the truth.

Tell him he hates the constitution

Plus, he obviously is incapable of giving a detailed response as to what is wrong with RP policy directives such as HR 1207 and defaults to ad hominem attack mode instead of offering constructive criticism.

He's already lost the argument, he just doesn't realize it. There's no way you can debate with someone on that level.

I would limit my conversations with this person to topics like cartoons, sports, movies, candy, bmx bicycles, video games...you know, things that would appeal to a teenager's mentality.

Get him/her a new window

Everyone has a right to their opinion so here is mine.

This individual apparently has their head inserted in a difficult place for most people. Therefore, if this individual would insert a new window in their belly this would allow them to be able to still see what's going on around them.

Those people with nothing productive to offer you talk about, are the very ones who voted for your candidate. And the ones whom LOVE the welfare state...and the continuance of our minority caste system. Just so they can stay in the warm and ever giving bosom of Leviathan.
