Obama to push immigration bill this year
Submitted by Warriorjason on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 05:24
Well it's started. The continuation of Bush/ McCain's amnesty bill for over 12 million illegal immigrant who did not follow our laws.
Though not surprisingly, Mr. Obama is actually going to try and push this through this year.
This is also just one more example of where Obama and Bush are the same.
We need to start contacting our Senators and Representatives about this issue. IT'S NOT REFORM, IT'S AMNESTY. We killed this when Bush tried to ram it down our throats now we are going to have to kill it again.

US Constitution first
This is a constitutional issue. The US Constitution says that our federal government must protect the borders and resist foreign invasions. (para-phrase)
There is a right way to come into this country, and there is a wrong way.

The Constitution ahead of liberty?
Excuse me, the Constitution does not come before liberty.
That is a tyrannical statement that the good founders (ie. Jefferson, Paine, Henry, Mason, etc) would have not accepted.

Why not take the libertarian position on this Warriorjason?
I agree with what Sheldon Richman said:
I agree with the position
I agree with the position but my family understands that there are exceptions that aren't covered by this. My sister is married with a child to a man who was brought here as an illegal by his parent when he was about 12. He has no status yet he works and files taxes and all of that. Because he has no status when they got married he had no status to change so technically he is still an illegal even though he has spent his adult life here working and paying taxes. Under the current law he would have to return to Mexico for a year then pay money and return to the U.S. That of course isn't feasible because there is a child between them.
He should have the right to have his status reviewed or be allowed to take the citizenship test and be treated as a legal immigrant.
Dr. Paul is right on this whole thing though....take away the incentives to illegally immigrate here and you fix the biggest part of the problem.
That's a lousy situation that your
brother in law is in.
For sure. However analyzing this from an idealistic perspective, I 'm not sure that the concept of citizenship to a government (the notion that the citizen belongs to the State) can be compatible with the principles of liberty.
But is that likely to happen? Probably not. I could only see it coming about if there isn't enough buyers of government debt to finance those programs...
So, yes, Ron is right on that part of it. But he's wrong (as per libertarian principles) to use force to prevent individuals from exercising their god-given right to free-association.
Just because there is one wrong (welfare programs, etc), doesn't justify a 2nd wrong (restrictions on free-association).
bump
I guess things are going to get confusing since Obama claimed he was change, looks like he's more of the SAME.
