I called Representative Sarbanes about HR 1207--and this is the letter I got
Poor unenlightened little lamb...never says he will cosponsor, thinks Geithner will be good enough to watch over the henhouse, and assures me that "we must engage in real, meaningful oversight." HR 1207 isn't real oversight?
Here is the letter from Representative John P. Sarbanes, Maryland 3rd district:
"Thank you for contacting me about the oversight and regulation of our financial markets and, specifically, the Federal Reserve System. I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to respond.
The particular bill you mentioned, H.R. 1207, Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, would mandate an audit of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Reserve Banks. This legislation has been referred to the House Committee on Financial Services. Although I do not serve on this committee, I will be certain to keep your views in mind should the full House of Representatives consider any relevant legislation.
You may also be interested to know that Treasury Secretary Geithner has required recipients of funds under the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) to show how every dollar of capital they receive is enabling them to preserve or generate new lending; set aside TARP funds to mitigate foreclosures; and cooperated with Congress to further limit executive compensation at companies that receive taxpayer assistance. All information disclosed or reported to Treasury by recipients of capital assistance will be posted on FInancialStability.gov so that taxpayers can judge for themselves whether these programs are succeeding in creating and preserving lending and financial stability.
Going forward, we must engage in real, meaningful oversight so that in the future the taxpayer is not forced to pay for bad decisions and reckless gambling of a few on Wall Street. I will be sure to keep your views in mind as Congress considers legislation that seeks to correct these mistakes and begins to right our economy.
Again, I apppreciate hearing from you. Please do not hesitate to contact me about other issues of concern to you in the future.
Sincerely,
John P. Sarbanes"
Note that final sentence. Gosh, I don't think he addressed ANY of my concerns. Sounds like he doesn't want to hear from me again on this bill...

My rep Adam Smith D-WA has agreed to co-sponsor 1207
But the proof will be in the pudding when I see his name as an official supporter.

I think it's pretty pathetic
I think it's pretty pathetic that his biggest donor is the biggest law firm in Baltimore. Makes it look like Venable simply bought themselves a vote in Congress. No wonder he's a follower and not a leader...can't imagine they would want a freethinker to represent their needs.

I'd be willing to bet Sarbanes is a Mason.
.
I haven't looked it up.
But I'd be willing to bet he's on THEIR team.

As in "Sarbanes-Oxley"?
No surprise. SOx is the biggest POS aimed at damaging American business in recent memory.

If our Representatives in
If our Representatives in Congress are not part of the solution (co-sponsoring the bill) then you can rest assured they are part of the problem. H.R. 1207 will expose the money handlers that are controlling most of the world. I have no doubt that those Representitives who are against the bill are knowingly benefitting in some way from the trillions of dollars generated by the Fed that are unaccounted for. Transparency is their poison.
That's called a handshake with a ...

Hope for MD?
My rep. Roscoe Bartlett is the only one from MD. that has signed on. At least the last time I looked. With senators like Mikulski, and Carden, there has been little hope for MD. if anything. As far as the reps. are concerned, they all seem lost too. I write and write and they keep doing their two step and trying to treat me like I'm the idiot. We have to vote them out.

This mess is a place......
All I can think is to try and convince people to vote them out and hope the ones that they are replaced with will do what they are suppose to. But you know as well as I do, the people in MD. have their blinders on and will continue to vote back in the people that give them their entitlements. And you know exactly what I mean.
I told that mikulski B*(&^% that I was going to do whatever I could to make sure she didn't get re-elected.

Write him back
And tell him he is failing to uphold his oath to the Constitution.
Note Article I, Section 8 and Article I, Section 10 of the Constitution. The language is pretty damn plain.
Focus on the CURRENCY issue not the financial oversight issue.

Hmm...I'm thinking about it...
This weekend I *have* been thinking really hard about writing a response. You did read the last sentence, though, didn't you? He doesn't want to hear from me on this subject again! Mentioning the TARP oversight is a classic bait and switch tactic; it really has nothing to do with the concerns many of us have about the Federal Reserve.
My main concern would be that I would come off as sarcastic in any response that I would bother to give because, gosh, that would be SO easy for me to do. So if I do respond...I will endeavor to be as nice as possible and stick to the facts.

Write him a warm thank you letter
And tell him you've told your civic association with over 500 members about his support and they are also very grateful. He won't be able to resist.
