Pirates threaten lives, Obama does nothing
Pirates are holding an American commercial ship captain hostage off the coast of Africa. They approached the ship in a rubber boat and boarded it and are now threatening to kill him if they don't get $2M.
Obama is doing nothing to help.
Hillary Clinton, secretary of state, said "Piracy may be a centuries-old problem but we are working to bring an appropriate 21st century response."
Our people are being put in danger by common thieves because international law says they cannot be armed on the high seas! And they may die because this scumbag president is waiting for a politically correct solution???
We need to bring back GUNS, on ships, planes, buses, or anywhere that is vulnerable to mass attacks like this.
Another ship of French origin is being held and they already killed some of those hostages.
I feel this may be a ruse to help get the LAW OF THE SEA TREATY
widespread acceptance and possible ratification by the Senate.

Catch-22 - Interesting Story Brewing
I wouldn't be surprised if other governments are involved in covert actions to utilize the pirates to cause this chaos. Our already-stretched-thin-military is now moving towards the area to help curtail these actions which makes me feel this is a strategic ploy to divert attention in other areas.
Personally, I do not agree with the premise of this blog as it focuses too much upon Obama's lack of attention. What can the President do? Perhaps, the solution is to send in some Navy Seals to knock out every pirate on the ship and out of fear of this type of action, the pirates are now capturing other ships and threatening the lives of the hostages to offset this confrontation with US and other military ops.
This is a very interesting story and Obama is in a Catch-22 situation because if an attack is launched, it will have to be coordinated with the other captured ships and it will have to be decisive. If their efforts fail and people on other ships are harmed (which they are also from other countries), it will have serious blowback and cause greater harm upon the already damaged reputation of the US Government.
Also, isn't it strange that we have a rule here in the USA that if a plane is hijacked, our Air Force (under NORAD command) has the right to shoot the plane down--even if it causes the death of all of the passengers. The premise behind this means is to let terrorists know that we will not play by their rules...

The captain would have been fully aware of the risks and was most likely compensated generously for his service.

I met a woman a couple weeks ago that is a CPA. When the subject of Obama came up she said in her whiny voice "people need to give him more than 20 minutes" So I figure the heavy kool-aid drinkers will need to watch the complete degradation of their families and communities and even then there will be diehards that will have to blame it on every thing and everyone else.
