*Gun buy-back program launched in Los Angeles *
LOS ANGELES, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Thursday kicked off a gun buy-back program urging Angelenos to turn in their guns to police departments in exchange for gift cards.
Angelenos who turn in their guns -- regardless of whether the firearm has been used in a crime -- will receive a gift certificate, Villaraigosa said.
"This is an opportunity to make a real difference for our children and families," said the mayor. "It's a chance to take matters into our own hands and prevent the next tragic shooting and the next unnecessary murder."
The city has 70,000 U.S. dollars for the gun buy-back program, and the goal is to collect as many guns as possible, Villaraigosa said.
On May 9, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will be at 20 locations throughout the city to accept guns in exchange for 100-dollar and 200-dollar gift cards....(more on this story in link below)

Let's hope NO ONE cooperates
The bureaucrats can spend the gift cards on themselves. They are all getting so fat on tax dollars they will constantly need larger clothes.

In Boston, MA, Mayor Thomas Menino
has done this, too. Bring in your gun and receive a Target gift card. And the price of Freedom is...?

Let's launch our own program
Yes, Let's launch our own gun buy back program!
We will buy the guns with a $125 - $225 cash. Forget the gift certificates! let's buy up all of these guns and get a huge discount! Someone make the announcement to the mayor of LA and let's have some fun with this!
Of course, before launching this idea in your community, you might want to speak with an attorney just in case...
I have wanted to do that for
I have wanted to do that for a long time, but nobody in my neighborhood is that stupid!

Over a million guns sold a
Over a million guns sold a month in the USA...and LA's Mayor wants people to turn in $70,000 worth of guns. It seems like the mayor is just grandstanding to appear he is trying to solve the problem of gun-related violence, but the only people who will turn in guns are idiots or thieves who steal other people's guns for a gift certificate. If I were a criminal, I would not be giving up my guns.
Also, I would never trust a gift certificate because there are usually tracking parameters embedded in the cards and, I know the government isn't stupid about "not testing" the guns and looking up serial numbers. Let's just assume that every gun returned gets a $100 gift certificate and divide that from $70,000, that would mean 700 guns will be collected in a city of over 10 million people.
This mayor should resign just for making such a silly proposal as it appears the City of LA needs a mayor with basic common sense.
LA does this all the time
this is nothing new. They have been doing this for years.
everyone should read SIERRAHPBT's idea
also if anyone finds out about a gun buyback program in their area it should be posted on here. that way patriots who have the money to do so can purchase guns from people who would otherwise turn them in to the "law". i know here in IN this it is perfectly legal to do gun transactions this way. i've purchased firearms from this website before.
http://ingunowners.com/forums/
a guy on there had exactly what i wanted for a price i had no problem paying. i met him at a gas station off the highway, checked out the firearm and all the magazines, counted out the cash and we were on our separate ways.
now not every state allows transactions such as that to take place. i know for a fact East Germany, i mean Illinois, is one of them. so check before you go down to the police buyback area and try to buy firearms.

lol. that was good!!!
"i know for a fact East Germany, i mean Illinois, is one of them."
that sounds like a great idea, but here in MA
we have to go through a FFL dealer to purchase in MA. Well, we'll just go over to ME, NH and VT to purchase them, then. We still have to fill out the paperwork and get a FBI check, but it's a new friend in hand!

"regardless of whether the firearm has been used in a crime"?
Note to Angelinos: murder someone you don't like and return the firearm to the police for your gift card. Your old firearm will be destroyed before the CSIs can trace it to you or match it to the lethal rounds.

They clearly are preparing for disarming,
not just with offering money as in the buy back scheme but also through publishing every single shooting that is happening even in other countries. I just read about the shooting in Holland, 1 dead, 3 wounded. Since when have those incidents in other countries become front page news in USA?
Heard a bit of an interview with 'Jim' who rang in about the shooting in the immigration centre about 5-6 days ago. He mentioned that the helicopter(s) were already circling around before the actual shooting took place. ??? Nothing really to go by but perhaps a tidbit of info to keep in back of mind as it may well be a possible set-up. He said that he saw it himself but hasn't seen anything about this in msm.
The interview is available on AJ's page
Most people will not disarm......n|t
**I doubt they want to sacrifice the lives of that many of their agents and operatives. Sounds like they will attempt to deceive people into giving up their weapons, or starve as many as possible, subjugate as many as they can to requirements to give up their weapons. They're not dumb.**
Depends on their geographical location.
Disarming people in New England or southern California seems very plausible to me.
Of course, most people will peacefully non-comply with such laws, anyway. But a law that is largely ignored is still able to control the populace to some degree.

Tell that to my buddies in NH, and VT
There is no way they will disarm. MA and CT, I could easily see, and ME is on the fence. But NH and VT, nuh uh.
sorry, forgot RI. they could go either way
anyone want to make an issue out of this?
I'm sure someone on KFI am640 might like to discuss it,
They got all those people to show up for there tax revolt.
I'm sure the gang bangers
Will step right up...NOT.
that is, unless they are trading in a couple of crappy guns, to get something better.
Like usual it will be the regular non-criminals, who need to eat, turning in their junk. Scrap iron collection.

If they have one in Denver I'm going to buy.. if its a good firearm, I will offer 100.00 more to the seller then what the city is paying..

that is an excellent idea
and i've thought about doing the same here in Indianapolis should i find out about a gun buyback program.

That is why I'm going to a gun show tomorrow.
Stossel should quit
He can't just stand by while they air that kind of filthy dirty gungrabber propaganda.
How does a city decide
which companies to buy gift cards for? Sounds like an effort to funnel taxpayer money to corporations.
I wonder if our taxpayer
I wonder if our taxpayer dollars are paying to buy back these guns? Wouldn't put it past the gov't

They are having a show on the "horrors" of guns right now.
I had an incident in my home in Dec. and understand the dangers.
But I have also taken action and responsibility to eliminate those dangers.
I believe that is the key. Not trying to brain wash people in to thinking that the gun is a bad thing. I believe that firearms make society civilized and it is a shame that it isn't being handled differently.

It took me a minute to get that one. Made me laugh. Like I would actually hang with something like him. I have a whole better class of criminals and terrorists I like to hang out with.
Actually what happened was my son shot himself in the leg. We were fortunate and he wasn't really hurt, but it sure has caused a load of trouble for me.

A lot of cities do this in
A lot of cities do this in one way or another. It is actually a great program. It gets all the extra and illegal guns floating around on the streets...off the streets.
As much as I do love guns, they shouldn't be in the hands of 16 year old "gangsters" or sitting on the ground in an alley.
All the guns are always destroyed after the events, which brings up the only sad part to me. Sometime collector guns are brought in and have to be destroyed. :(
