Has any body noticed how the US can wage a war on terror but can't rescue one hostage in a life boat in the middle of the ocean surrounded by warships? Or the fact that pirates are out of control and form a true version of terrorism and yet we take no world action to stop them? Why can't the navy get get a team of seals or snipers and take out the terrorists in that tiny life boat and rescue the captain? Or better yet why isn't every ship that travels in harms way armed to the teeth to protect themselves?

I think you guys know what
I think you guys know what I'm going to say about the pirate situation in Somalia. It's like a guy is watching this controversial movie that's supposed to leave him with his jaw on the floor. Then he notices that more movies in the future are based on the same stuff that he watched in the first movie. In other words, it's a re-run of the same old crap over and over. The only difference might be the actors and the scenario, but the script is just re-used.
Well, there is a bit of spin
Well, there is a bit of spin thrown into this story, as all good stories go, but I have little doubt the risk to the captain was his life. These armed robbers (I dislike the use of the term pirates, as it trivializes their actions) had little chance of escaping after their fuel ran out, but it is just not a simple matter to use snipers to take out people on the open water. The SEALS involved did a good job, and I find nothing inconsistent with acting to protect the crew and captain with massive force. The future risks to shipping lines is that firepower will increase on both sides in an attempt to extort companies.

You do realize this whole thing is just more Media bullshit huh?
The reason these somalians are pissed is because the corporations dumped radiactive garbage in their waters and are also pillaging the fish supply. If you were starving and sick from radiation poisoning you would also become a pirate. Think about what pirates are. Originally they were the militia of the british waterways protesting the unfair and often cruel treatment of it's ship slaves.
Read up on this and you will realize that the pirates are the good guys.

Pirates
are not good guys. I don't care if they got dumped all over as you say. They are not good guys when they accost innocent people on the high seas. These people did not harm them so they are hurting the wrong person. No one who does this type of thing is a good guy. And I certainly don't see them sharing the wealth with their country. They are pirates, plain and simple.

Pirates?!?
Of all the amazing things which are happening in our world the one that amazes me the most is this whole "Somali pirate" story. It's just so fantastically amazing I'm stunned speechless.
Pirates are the scum of all scum. When 9/11 happened the politicos cried and pleaded about the lack of laws which enable them to go after the terrorists. However, if you called the terrorists "pirates" instead of "terrorists" then they would've been able to relax. The primary reason hundreds of years old international laws exist is because of pirates. The international law states that pirates on the open seas are fair game. Killing pirates is a public service which has been recognized for hundreds of years.
Does anybody think it's a coincidence the company formerly known as Blackwater has just built a brand-spanking new fleet of private navy ships capable of escorting commercial ships through dangerous pirate infested waters? For a fee, of course.
