NRA has 'stranglehold' on Congress, senator says
As firearms sales in the United States hit new highs, the Obama Administration and Democrats in Congress are squelching talk of a renewal of the assault weapons ban passed by Congress that lapsed in 2004, saying they don't want a distraction from their agenda and don't have the votes in Congress.
Seven million people have applied for criminal background checks since November in an effort to buy guns, according to the FBI. That figure doesn't include Virginia, whose gun shows don't require any background checks.
The buying bonanza has stripped some stores almost bare of assault weapons and yielded a national ammunition shortage.
As gun sales blossom, Democrats' interest in regulating gun sales appear to be waning, despite the recent spate of high-profile gun violence.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, announced last week that she wants to register guns. Her next move will be to try to confiscate them.
The speaker picked a television show with a viewership of 4.6 million to float the Democrats' coming gun-control push. Questioned on ABC's "Good Morning America" about the prospect of new gun-control laws now that "it's a Democratic president, a Democratic House," she responded, "We don't want to take their guns away. We want them registered."
Politicians and bureaucrats routinely claim that registration helps solve crimes. If a registered gun is used in a crime and left at the crime scene, registration supposedly lets the police trace the gun back to the criminal. Though this turn of events might work on fictional TV crime shows, it virtually never occurs in real life. Criminals' guns are rarely left at crime scenes. When guns are left behind, it usually is because a crook has been seriously injured or killed and the police are poised to catch him anyway.
The few guns left at crime scenes rarely - if ever - are registered to the perpetrator. If they are registered at all, it is to someone else, whose piece was stolen.

Having gun ownership
shows the sentiment of the people. I'm sure something is in order in the future to disarm Americans. Right now they are trying to down play it so people that haven't armed themselves wont become armed. If their is no threat to the ability to buy arms their will be no rush and the average sheep will forget in a few weeks what all the hype is.

I watched this segment on 60 minutes totally expecting it to be a hit piece. I was surprised that they did not portray gun owners as I expected them to, but at the same time there were some ominous segments that really made me think twice about celebrating.
Diane Feinstein's remarks, "That's correct," Feinstein said. "I'll pick the time and the place, no question about it.", totally scared me. There has been a lot of talk about false flag incidences, as well as a sharp rise in mass shootings. Earlier in the piece they mentioned how public sentiment led to the 94 gun ban.
She just scared me how she was not intimidated and was confident that they would get that ban one way or another.
so, what are they going to do to sway public sentiment against the dreaded semi-automatic "assault" rifle?

who's sister was a victim of the Va. Tech shootings lied during his portion on the 60 minutes program last night. I go to those gun shows all the time.It really saddens me to see the lengths these people are going to to shoot themselves in the foot. If thay got thier way it would likely lead to many of them not being able to purchase a gun because they saught out psychiatric counseling after that horrible day. It would go on record they they had a history of psych problems or meds. Some of them may want to own a firearm for protection after going through that disaster. But they may be unable to obtain one do to thier history.I tried to find the clip from last nights show where I believe he said he did buy over 20 guns in less than an hour without any checks or question. I did find a clip of him speaking to the general assembly saying "it could be possible for someone to buy over 20 without any checks or even proof of age." He worded it as if you could do this with the gun dealers inside the show. I know very different. Not only have I been checked for every purchase. I have seen people arrested for trying to see if they could slip through thinking the check wouldn't catch thier record.The dealers are strict. They don't want to lose there livelyhood. Yes I have seen people walking around with rifles ( Not assault weapons) with for sale signs sticking out of the barrel. But I seriously doubt you could buy 20 in an hour or that they will sell to just anyone. There are police everywhere (undercover and many are dealers also) and they are not going to let people set up shop out of the trunk of thier car. Just not happenning. If a law abiding citizen had been armed that day many lives may have been saved. The guy that did the shooting bought his guns legally. Criminals will get guns one way or another. Backgroung checks will not change that. Some legal gun owners will go crazy,even police officers. Many of them need more psychiatric evalution before becoming officers. If a true killer can't get a gun he will find a way to kill. A person should have the right to protect themselves from any form of armed or even unarmed dangerous life threatening criminals and even rabid animals ect.. It is hard for me to understand the victims of such a massacre as Va. Tech not wanting to be able to protect themselves from another such atrocity. Or would they be considered stable enough to own a gun after what they have been through under the laws they want passed? Have they thought that through? Would John Mccain be considered stable enough? Geeze they wanted to put him in charge of the entire military and the nukes. Has he had any psych evaluations? He was talking about taking guns away from returning soldiers. Wonder where he got the Idea they might not be stable enough to own a gun. hmmm

Would be interesting to see people get together and make ammo clubs that don't charge for ammo but charge a annual fee.
