Everyone's got "Tea Party Fever" this month, will anything constructive follow?

I can't help thinking the tea parties are going to be like "clean the city" day; everyone comes out, picks up some trash, has a picnic and considers the city clean for another year. If they all came out EVERY day, the city would be SPOTLESS, but it's easier to host an event and call it clean than actually clean it. I'm afraid the tea parties are going to be the same way; everyone shows up, listens to some speeches, maybe write a check or two and go home to watch more tv. I'm handing out some stuff to try to keep people motivated, but I'm not feeling overly optimistic. Are we reaching people? Really reaching them? I'm not stopping the fight until we either win or there's no fight left in me, but I've been at this since the late 1980's and I sort of feel like I watched our chance to really wake up the people float by a month or two ago--what happened?

I heard the same concern from Jim Babka at DownsizeDC today

He's going to be speaking at a Tea Party in Ohio, but he's concerned about the long-term.

He had a good point: focus on signing people up. His strategy is to have members hammer Congress, day in and day out, about defending our freedoms.

These events are a good place to recruit new members to carry out a relentless, incremental push to tell Congress which way the parade is going, and making them think they need to get in front of it, rather than focus on trying to elect individuals.

The good news is that more and more people are jumping on the band wagon. The tide is turning (to mix metaphors). It's the free market of ideas, and we're a part of it.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

Magic Eight Ball: "My sources say No."

It's Disneyland protesting.

Don't get me wrong. I love the Pirates of the Caribbean, Brer Rabbit, the Grim Grinning Ghosts, Tinkerbell, and Buzz Lightyear. But I'm not sure I'd follow them in a constitutional protest march. Or at least expect the tyrants in Washington to take them very seriously.

r3voLution

We don't have the numbers yet to pull off the r3voLution. We need to be working to swell our ranks. You are right, the Tea Parties have absolutely no effect on the government. The only reason I see now to protest is to wake up our fellow Americans. If they are a huge event tomorrow, that will draw more folk to the Tea Party movement. Our job, as defenders of liberty, is to wake up the folks that attend these Tea Parties. We need recruits for the r3voLution because we frankly don't have the numbers yet. Our main focus right now should be to use these Tea Parties to wake people up. I think many of them are ready to hear the message.

I tend to agree.

While I suppose it's fine for trying to spread awareness, it's just another fad. Protesting is a sport in this country.

Let's face it folks, the natives are simply not energetic enough. All these cute PR stunts are nothing more than another toy to keep the hamsters happy for a while in the eye of the government. We'll play with it for a while, then go back into the cage. Until someone does something drastic like fire bomb a Fed or egg the white house, the government could give a shit less what we do.

You want to get their attention? Get 1/3 or more of the nation to not file income tax this year. Bring a successful impeachment against the public officials. Turn DC into downtown Bangkok for a few days. THAT will get their undivided attention.

There's 2 main ways to hurt the powers that be: physical force and financial denial. Everything else is just another feel-good protest to clear the conscience of the masses and make them feel like they've done their good deed.

You are right. They don't

You are right. They don't care what we do unless we use force against them or cut off their funds. Otherwise they go about the business of stealing from us, enslaving us and oppressing us just like the always do. They need to be held accountable to us.

It will be a great

It will be a great opportunity to network and educate the lesser Repubs.
Hopefully, there will be enought RP energy there to really get people excited, and maybe they will go home and learn something enlightening.
